What splurge item have you bought that’s left you disappointed?

So decided to treat myself and buy myself a Venus embrace razor. I loved how glamorous it looked, loved that you can buy new heads for it and reuse the handle (less plastic waste). Just really wanted to love this item!

Anyway so I have a shower this morning with my Venus embrace…. I shave my legs, great result. Shave my toes, great result. Shave armpits, again great... And just when I’m really beginning to feel like a silky smooth Goddess in the shower… I try to shave my bikini area. OMG seriously wtf is wrong with this razor??? Something about the shape of the razor itself just makes it impossible to get a good result in the bikini area😳. I’m so disappointed.
I’m hoping the Venus razor inventor reads this thread and improves their product. Because I so wanted to love this item.

You would think spending more money on an item would get you a better product. But apparently not… So what luxury splurge item have you bought that’s left you disappointed??

Dyson cordless absolutely brilliant. I actually don't mind hoovering with it.

Another hairy toed hobbit here. I've got hairy fingers as well, I don't shave them though. Helps keep my hands warm.

Not expensive as such but I found out Odd Box subscription was a massive rip off. Why would I want a box of random wonky veg for £12 when I could go to the shop and pick what I actually want for less.

Oh no … 😂
examines fingers and discovers that they are indeed hairy as well, 😱 , immediately goes to the bathroom to shave fingers.

@Partypoooooper the kids took my lovely teddy throw and matching cushion camping in a forest. They are now covered in bits of twig only disguised by the huge volume of crisp crumbs also refusing to come out.

To be fair they are really warm but their looks fade fast!

Safety razors are the best thing ever, and very eco friendly.

God I buy all sorts of shit, blenders, spiralisers, if it has one specific role then it's probably shit.

TenoringBehind · 03/11/2022 14:03

I don’t get the love of Shark vacuums. I hated mine and wouldn’t be without the Dyson cordless one that I replaced it with. Well worth every penny.

Not an item but so much money wasted on joining different slimming clubs.
I join, I eat sensibly , I loose weight , I leave , life happens and the weight creeps back on quietly. 😫
I am at the point at the moment to either go back on a diet or buy bigger sized knickers.

@Chloefairydust
If it makes you feel better I actually treated myself to some firelighters yesterday Grin

Dyson Airwrap. I just cannot get it to work but I paid so much that I’m stuck with it for a few years! Joined a Facebook group hoping for tips and it’s just full of people saying “how can I get my curls to stay in” so I’m clearly not the only one.

Ebay it! I've just sold a 3 year old one with plenty of use for over £300.

I bought a new battery for my dyson from Amazon! £38 it's honestly like a new Hoover. As it's more powerful than the original dyson one.

Eufy bloody waste of time and money.

@onmywayamarillo Please share how you find this marvel battery on Amazon?

But you don't mention shaving your feet. So I am imagining smooth legs, smooth toes, broken up by hairy hobbit feet... 😂

I always remove hair from toes and fingers.
One you've noticed it, you can't un-notice it.
I'm surprised other people don't do it.

What do people not like about their Apple Watches? (thinking of getting one for Christmas, might not if it ends up on this thread!)

I treated myself to one. The battery lasts approximately 1.5 days and the only thing I actually use it for is telling the time, and occasionally checking my heart rate. Big waste of money!

whatdoyousayhey · 03/11/2022 14:20

Gymshark leggings - the worst quality. Can see what I had for breakfast when I bent over.

Wexone · 03/11/2022 14:22

The henry hoover - oh my god so useless has no suction what so ever, can not get over the amount of love for it
My Dyson fan, great at heating but useless at cooling.
Love my dyson airwrap, using it more now than ever
Op instead of buying razors invest in laser hair removal, have had 5 sessions so far, its unreal, able to go on a three week hol in sept for three weeks in sun, no need to shave at all, legs out every day
And yes they do your feet and toes - Bloody hate the fact we have hairy toes

Chickenwing2 · 03/11/2022 14:24

Dyson airwrap. Curls do not hold. So disappointing

TerraNostra · 03/11/2022 14:25

I'm really shocked at the rudeness of posters who are turning up their noses at OP considering an expensive razor to be a luxury item - "luxury" as a concept is all relative to what people can afford, surely? Utterly tone deaf when there are other threads where people struggle to eat and keep warm.

And then people are being even more rude about your body hair. You're taking it very well OP!

The thing I regret spending money on is a £60 pillow. I wake up feeling no different to how I did with my £10 Wilko ones (stiff neck etc).

Flobbertybillop · 03/11/2022 14:28

Dyson and Shark - absolutely shit

Apple watch - best thing ever!

bingotime · 03/11/2022 14:28

People shave the hair in butt cracks?! How?! How do you not cut yourself?!

toastedcat · 03/11/2022 14:29

An Elvie breast pump. I just don't get on with it at all. It was so expensive!

Springtimeshowers · 03/11/2022 14:29

Noom.

Mommabear20 · 03/11/2022 14:29

Air fryer 😣 I don't get the hype now we've got one, DH loves it but I don't get it 🤷‍♀️

OwwwMuuuum · 03/11/2022 14:29

My house.
Waitrose food.
Sisley skin care products.

Some expensive things are just better though, E.g. Volvo cars, M&S custard, smelly candles.

@onmywayamarillo Thank you! Flowers Sadly I don't think I could use that for my V10 😪

OwwwMuuuum · 03/11/2022 14:30

I’d never shave my butt crack, not because it’s not hairy but because the re growth would be insanely prickly

Best pillows I have ever had are John Lewis feather ones, they are pricey but last forever and mould perfectly around your neck and head. It’s like sleeping on a cloud…

And I know right, I’m always surprised at the rudeness of some posters on mumsnet lol good thing I’m not too easily offended
