What splurge item have you bought that’s left you disappointed?

So decided to treat myself and buy myself a Venus embrace razor. I loved how glamorous it looked, loved that you can buy new heads for it and reuse the handle (less plastic waste). Just really wanted to love this item!

Anyway so I have a shower this morning with my Venus embrace…. I shave my legs, great result. Shave my toes, great result. Shave armpits, again great... And just when I’m really beginning to feel like a silky smooth Goddess in the shower… I try to shave my bikini area. OMG seriously wtf is wrong with this razor??? Something about the shape of the razor itself just makes it impossible to get a good result in the bikini area😳. I’m so disappointed.
I’m hoping the Venus razor inventor reads this thread and improves their product. Because I so wanted to love this item.

You would think spending more money on an item would get you a better product. But apparently not… So what luxury splurge item have you bought that’s left you disappointed??

A recliner chair wasn't looking to buy one when shopping for sofa but husband sat in it and fell in love very expensive and yeah very comfy to be fair but if you lean forward too far it tips forward and when you want to unrecline you have to do an Olympic gymnast style back kick with both your legs to put the footrest down almost putting your back out plus its ugly. First World problems

QforCucumber · 03/11/2022 13:14

@MichikoTheCat it doesn't matter if your phone is on silent - the alert beep still chimes! It is wonderful, I test it daily to see if my phone is in my bag in the car with me or left in the house somewhere hah!

I’m a bit disappointed in my Fairfax & Favor boots. They’re beautiful and I love them and they make me feel very smart but after a couple of hours my feet just ache. I’d have thought the leather would have softened by now but it still feels a bit hard. I don’t think I’m used to wearing heels either. Probably should have gone for flat suede instead of heeled leather. They’re so lovely though.

I had some fairly expensive (for me) Rohde brown leather ankle boots.
They nearly crippled me...they were fine for about 20mins, preferably if you were sitting down. Blush
I chucked them about 3 winters later.

You shave your toes????

Are you a hobbit?

Um. Yes.

My splurge item was blueing all my Nectar points on a Vax carpet cleaner.

Used once, to less than stellar results and now have to take the fucker apart to get the fibres and hair off the brushes

Partypoooooper · 03/11/2022 13:17

Not really a splurge but after my Dyson died a death I treated myself to a Henry, it was the biggest piece of crap out! Ended up replacing with a Vax, glad I didn't go for a battery Dyson going from the pp.

Partypoooooper · 03/11/2022 13:18

Got a teddy throw for the sofa, little did I know that every piece of straw, burr, dried leaf would stick to the damn thing.

Lorrymum · 03/11/2022 13:18

Pair of Ugg boots. They hurt my feet every time I wear them.

ChocolateCinderToffee · 03/11/2022 13:18

SirChenjins · 03/11/2022 10:51

YY to the Dyson Cordless. The battery is absolutely rubbish, I've lost count of the number of times we've had to replace it.

I'm currently cursing mine: it doesn't get much use but it looks as though the battery needs replacing. £60, ffs? You can buy a new vacuum for that.

Drodeadledbedfedheadredsaid · 03/11/2022 13:19

Oh yes shoes... Many many beautiful high heel splurges many many disappointments does not matter how comfy and easy to walk on the soft shoe shop carpet they are guaranteed 10 minutes on my feet and I am crippled and bare foot I just look at them now and call them "bedroom shoes" this means they live in a shoebag in my bedroom and NEVER see the light of day.

Agree with disappointment at Apple Watch. I do love the find your phone option (although sometimes it doesn’t work for some reason) but I bought it for running and it turns out the GPS in it is shit and tells me I’m much slower and makes me run further than any other running watch/phone I’ve ever used. As such I have an irrational hatred for it which despite the convenience of Apple Pay, I shall never forgive.
Plus they are pretty ugly.
But the inaccurate GPS….unforgivable
The fucker
<still bitter>

What do people not like about their Apple Watches? (thinking of getting one for Christmas, might not if it ends up on this thread!)

I love mine!

MichikoTheCat · 03/11/2022 13:20

@QforCucumber

Not sure why I thought it didn't work when phone is silent, I should probably start wearing again as I nearly had a breakdown thinking I lost my phone at the pharmacy the other day. I think it's the google home that doesn't make the phone ring if you ask it to find it and phone is silent

fuckthisforagameofdarts · 03/11/2022 13:23

I epilated my toes a few times and it stopped growing back

AriettyHomily · 03/11/2022 13:23

A bloody Scentsy wax warmer that I got pressured into buying, it gives me a headache.

Fitbit - hated it and got an allergy to the nickel plate.

Mr Frosty, still as shit as when I was a kid 😂

I used to think they looked cool before I bought one, then as soon as I put it on, it felt bulky and not so pretty, now when I see traditional watches with slim bracelets I think they look pretty and more feminine if that makes sense

hesbeingabitofadick · 03/11/2022 13:26

@Gingernaut I assume it's a carpet shampooer? Do you vacuum thoroughly before using it? That's the key.
We've got 2 cats and I've got long hair and we do all our carpets twice a yr. It hasn't missed a beat.

ALLiDOisWIN · 03/11/2022 13:27

Asics Gel Kayano 29 running shoes. Have older models and they have been fantastic but these gave me horrible blisters.

donttalkaboutbookclub · 03/11/2022 13:27

Cashmere cardie from White Company - big splurge to treat myself - it hangs like an old dish rag and is all bobbly.

MatronicO6 · 03/11/2022 13:27

Maybe the blade was a bit too blunt at that point?

Mine is chanel and Fenty foundation. Both made different friends skins look perfect but on me just seemed to sit on my face and never actually blend.

Blibbleflibble · 03/11/2022 13:29

Le chameau wellies on recommendation of forums, I wanted to invest in some that would be comfy for long muddy walks without wearing out. They're okay but I really feel like 80% of the price is the bloody label. 🙄 Was a daft purchase.

Drodeadledbedfedheadredsaid · 03/11/2022 13:29

Oh yes Estee lauder extended wear foundation or whatever it is called really dry and awful on my skin same as a xlinique one they recommended. Clarins and ysl and BOOTS and Nivea perfect

Dyson cordless. Absolute rubbish.

Also a Dyson bagless. I spent more time unblocking it than actually cleaning with it. Never again.

ChampagneLassie · 03/11/2022 13:30

Dyson hairdryer, not nearly as good as my £80 hair dryer. Can't believe I spent £350 on a hair dryer!

MsAdoraBelleDearheartVonLipwig · 03/11/2022 13:31

I love my Apple Watch. I use it for loads of things and also do my fitness stuff on it. I bought a lovely slim leather strap for it so it doesn’t feel so bulky.

bruffin · 03/11/2022 13:32

Chloefairydust · 03/11/2022 10:39

Really I always thought dyson was the best kind of hoover 😮 … glad I never bought one now

i love my dyson cordless 😀
