What splurge item have you bought that’s left you disappointed?

So decided to treat myself and buy myself a Venus embrace razor. I loved how glamorous it looked, loved that you can buy new heads for it and reuse the handle (less plastic waste). Just really wanted to love this item!

Anyway so I have a shower this morning with my Venus embrace…. I shave my legs, great result. Shave my toes, great result. Shave armpits, again great... And just when I’m really beginning to feel like a silky smooth Goddess in the shower… I try to shave my bikini area. OMG seriously wtf is wrong with this razor??? Something about the shape of the razor itself just makes it impossible to get a good result in the bikini area😳. I’m so disappointed.
I’m hoping the Venus razor inventor reads this thread and improves their product. Because I so wanted to love this item.

You would think spending more money on an item would get you a better product. But apparently not… So what luxury splurge item have you bought that’s left you disappointed??

A rhinestone silver rope chain necklace costing a few hundred odd broke after 2nd day wearing it. I was mortified confused upset and angry. Returned to jewellers and luckily they gave a receipt for exchange. Few days later they called to say they had new chains in for Xmas do I want to see them before display. Luckily had a perfect rhinestone silver curb chain for similar value! Not all a bad loss

A luxury Jo Malone candle that cost more than my first mortgage repayment.

Medoca · 03/11/2022 12:12

We got given a huge Jo Malone candle, it was a very sweet gift from a now deceased relative, but it’s awful! The smell is overpowering, it makes me cough!

Have nothing really to add to this thread just felt like my dyson needed some love Blush

Also op - fellow toe shaver here!

A platinum baguette diamond eternity ring.

The diamonds don't lie flush and the platinum is soft so it's squished out of circleness Hmm

Dyson upright vacuum the early versions, annoying and cumbersome.

Shark handheld vacuum, I was 'influenced' it can't pick up anything more than a tiny crumb.

KitchenAid, beautiful and has some uses but takes the joy out of baking for me.

A new HP laptop. So slow and shit right from the start.
I love my cordless Dyson though.

A new Dell laptop. The specs look OK but it's absolutely dreadful. The camera seems to have a Donald Trump filter, the maximum brightness is very, very dull, the maximum volume is quiet and it whirrs and whines loudly when the fans come on and it's generally slow and shit too. The 'rubbish' cheapo six year old laptop it was replacing is far superior despite its apparently poor spec. So disappointing.

junipermarten · 03/11/2022 12:30

I also agree that Harry's razors are good. My husband has a subscription with them, I use a spare handle he had from a sub he previously had with another company. I can't remember the last time we bought new blades. They last for ages (probably because neither of us shave often!).

My disappointing splurge was an (extremely) expensive carpet and upholstery cleaner. Used it once last year before Christmas and haven't again. It was alright but didn't blow me away, who can be bothered with all that cleaning anyway!

TheFormidableMrsC · 03/11/2022 12:34

I saved up for a pair of trousers I kept seeing on insta. They arrived and are hideous. I think not being 5ft 10 had something to do with it! Fortunately they can go back and I'll be no worse off.

JelloFishy · 03/11/2022 12:34

@somanybooks I got a Dell laptop last year and it's fucking shit! It lags when the fan starts. On paper the specs are good but it's a pile a shit. It's slower than the one it replaced!

CJsGoldfish · 03/11/2022 12:35

Apple Watch, really regretted it to be honest
Same. It sits in a drawer

TokyoSushi · 03/11/2022 12:35

Shark hoover and big carpet cleaner, hate both.

Never thought of using a man's razor, will consider!

TokyoSushi · 03/11/2022 12:36

What do people not like about their Apple Watches? (thinking of getting one for Christmas, might not if it ends up on this thread!)

StillMedusa · 03/11/2022 12:38

My Ariat Langdale boots.
I walk my dog in all weathers and wanted some really comfy and waterproof but smart country boots. £185 and after 18m they have cracked and leak :(
I have maintained them, cleaned and proofed them regularly and they have still cracked. Very disappointed with them!

junipermarten · 03/11/2022 12:39

@Withabonussock I have an HP laptop and it became really slow and drove me nuts. I tried lots of different things to resolve it but nothing worked so I looked at replacing it. When I was looking the specs on others weren't far off mine and cost a lot more so I took it to a local PC shop and asked them to replace the HDD hard drive with an SDD one and the difference is unreal! So quick and so quiet now. It's great, that was prob over a year ago and I've had zero issues since.

It maybe cost around £100? Much cheaper than getting a new laptop. I got my HDD back and then bought a case for it (about 8 quid on Amazon) and now use it as an external hard drive for our PS5 which I would've needed to buy outright anyway.

Obviously if your laptop already has an SSD then that won't help but it's worth looking into what the issue could be, and possibly sourcing a reputable independent PC repair shop, especially if your laptop has an otherwise decent spec.

Omg the phone ping option has been a LIFESAVER for me (ADHD). That alone made it worth it 😂

junipermarten · 03/11/2022 12:42

@JelloFishy see my post above about my laptop and the disk drives. Mine was noisy when it was writing or reading to the HDD hard drive, yours could be the same?

Can I ask why? My husband wants to buy one for my 30th birthday.

Underroad · 03/11/2022 12:44

Air and Grace trainers. They gave me weird pain in one foot and looked completely shit on me. I persevered because I wanted to love them and they were so pretty, but they just look like stupid clown shoes on me and are not even that comfortable.
