What splurge item have you bought that’s left you disappointed?

So decided to treat myself and buy myself a Venus embrace razor. I loved how glamorous it looked, loved that you can buy new heads for it and reuse the handle (less plastic waste). Just really wanted to love this item!

Anyway so I have a shower this morning with my Venus embrace…. I shave my legs, great result. Shave my toes, great result. Shave armpits, again great... And just when I’m really beginning to feel like a silky smooth Goddess in the shower… I try to shave my bikini area. OMG seriously wtf is wrong with this razor??? Something about the shape of the razor itself just makes it impossible to get a good result in the bikini area😳. I’m so disappointed.
I’m hoping the Venus razor inventor reads this thread and improves their product. Because I so wanted to love this item.

You would think spending more money on an item would get you a better product. But apparently not… So what luxury splurge item have you bought that’s left you disappointed??

I bought a new battery for my dyson from Amazon! £38 it's honestly like a new Hoover. As it's more powerful than the original dyson one.

Eufy bloody waste of time and money.

I epilated my toes a few times and it stopped growing back

That's what I'm planning do to when finally getting laser hair removal. They do toes... right?

Beautiful leather handbag from a company called The Leather Store.
It was a lot of money for me to spend on a bag and I deliberated for ages before buying it.
I was convinced it was THE bag I needed.
It was going to be my classic item that I used every day.

When it arrived it was slightly damaged (rivets missing)
I had to hound them for a response and they weren't really interested in helping me. I got it repaired locally instead - considering I'd spent a lot of money (for me) it left a bit of a sour taste.

The actual bag is beautiful but due to the design not terribly practical so I don't use it very often.

Dyson Airwrap. I just cannot get it to work but I paid so much that I’m stuck with it for a few years! Joined a Facebook group hoping for tips and it’s just full of people saying “how can I get my curls to stay in” so I’m clearly not the only one.

My second child.
He’s nothing like the first one I got and costs us a fortune.

Maybe one day all these surprised ladies will realise they grow hair on their butts too. It's not only guys' thing.

OMG this lol 😮… note venus razor also very awkward for butt crack shaving😳

And I also regret the Apple Watch purchase… it lives in my drawer haha… maybe I could sell it 🤔

Far more expensive brand make up than I should admit to! I get sucked into the hype then get disappointed - keep telling myself to stop then do it again, lol. Mac Stack mascara I am looking at you (smudges really badly), most Chanel lip sticks (really drying), and Il Makiage foundation (truly appalling), to name but a few…

Lorrymum · 03/11/2022 13:40

Pair of beautiful lilac Hunter wellies. They split after 6 months. They were so expensive I thought they would last for ever.

cobblers123 · 03/11/2022 13:41

About six years ago I bought a bag in one of the outlet shops, never spent that much on a bag before.

I've ised it about a dozen times, it's cumbersome, never stays on my shoulder properly and is far too big for what I need so it's been in a storage box for about five years.

Same for a lovely pair of expensive Clark's leather ankle boots, only worn them twice as the heel is a bit too high for me. Had them five years. Really need to give them away or something, I'll never wear them now.

Anything Smeg. Our fridge looks great but the fridge door seal is broken and the model is now conveniently too old for spare parts to be available or for anyone to fix it. Both repair shops and Smeg’s advice has been “just buy a new fridge”. Same thing happened to a fridge at my previous work. Smeg would rather sell you a new fridge than repair one.

Their ovens are just as bad, ours has exploded twice with the self cleaning function.

Love my Apple Watch and cordless Dyson though!

Why is this? I absolutely love mine and I never faff about doing the cleaning routine either.

The noise is irritating and I don't think it lets off enough scent, it states 3 drops or something and I put in at least 10.

I'm away to dig it out and have another try just to convince myself.

ChocolateCinderToffee · 03/11/2022 13:44

I've got very little body hair but my toes are hairy.

Does this make me weird?

Fairyliz · 03/11/2022 13:44

Eve Lom cleanser. I read all the hype about it being the best cleanser in the world so treated myself a few years ago.
It left a sort of greasy film on my skin and gave me spots. Not really what I was looking for.

Absolutely do sell your Apple watch - now is the perfect time to do so, someone, somewhere will be looking for a second hand one for a Xmas present!

Justnosing · 03/11/2022 13:46

Spent £850 on a pair of shoes last week. My sister says she has the same ones from matalan 🙃

ShandaLear · 03/11/2022 13:46

If my Apple Watch broke I’d have to go straight out to buy another. You can pay with it, swim with it and do lots of other fitness stuff. It records heart rate and calories and blood oxygenation and loads of other clever stuff - and lets you see trends, etc. It can record sleep.. You can voice text with it, Shazam with it, take photos, use Siri…almost anything you can do on your phone you can do with the watch, only it’s tiny and on your wrist!

redjoker · 03/11/2022 13:47

The only 'big' purchase- anything over £100 -ive ever bought was a hoover, and my VAX carpet cleaner

does this mean im sad? lol

Season0fTheWitch · 03/11/2022 13:48

I use FFS beauty razors, the blades and everything are on a subcription basis so they send them when I need them. It's more expensive than some razors but they do good deals and the handles can be swapped for different colours.

I was disappointed by the apple watch though, I feel it doesn't do enough for me and I end up using my phone more

IheartJKRowling · 03/11/2022 13:51

crackersforcheese · 03/11/2022 10:59

I agree with the dyson cordless, complete waste of money. Went and re bought a shark and love it!

Another person who swapped the useless cordless Dyson for a Shark. The Shark is brilliant, lightweight and nearly lifts my carpets. I would never spend money on a Dyson product again, they are style over substance.

Coatdegroan · 03/11/2022 13:53

*Currently examining toes

I recommend the Bulldog razor. Nice wooden handle

Regret buying Hunter wellies. They are shit, £10 Dunlops better for me.

FreakyFrie · 03/11/2022 13:54

Fit bit …. Never use it. It’s in a drawer somewhere

1994girl · 03/11/2022 13:54

Chloefairydust · 03/11/2022 10:35

Well it’s more expensive than my cheaper razors I normally buy😳, it’s not the disposable one but the purple pretty one that you can keep the handle after and swap the razor head bit…

Strange woman

FreakyFrie · 03/11/2022 13:55

Vax cordless hoover … also shit.

Orangello · 03/11/2022 13:56

I love my Dyson v11 and the AirWrap is amazing.

My under-desk treadmill - had high hopes to get a ton of steps in during my full-day meetings. But no. It's not the noise, but we are expected to have the cameras on, and even with moderate speed, your head is bobbing all over the place, really distracting.

Westendbuoys · 03/11/2022 13:56

Another hairy toed hobbit here. I've got hairy fingers as well, I don't shave them though. Helps keep my hands warm.

Not expensive as such but I found out Odd Box subscription was a massive rip off. Why would I want a box of random wonky veg for £12 when I could go to the shop and pick what I actually want for less.
