Mordaunt’s team fighting to get her on ballot, via BJ supporters or MPs who want members’ vote
^^
Released this poll
- PM rated top choice for PM by voters who know candidates
- In 2019 red wall seats, she most likeable choice
-Voters say PM less divisive & more trustworthy than RS

Piggy was he on R4? If so it, his name is Guy Hands

Or more likely Christopher Chope, he is a big Johnson fan.

No BBC1. God, no, I'd recognise Chope. This guy was very reasonable.

DuncinToffee · 24/10/2022 09:27

Haha, no idea then

Patel and Cleverly are joining Zahawi in his u-turn.

Adam Bienkov

Within hours Rishi Sunak, who has not given a single interview, taken part in a single debate, or set out his plans for government in any way since announcing his candidacy, will likely become our next prime minister.

So depressing

And the things he announced during the summer are already out of date.

Piggy The person your heard was Guy Hands. Ex president of Oxford Union Conservative association. Billionaire investment/venture capitalist or some such 'finance' person.. with quite the grip on finances. Speaking that which never be said... the complete economic act of national suicide that is Brexit. Explaining that without a GE UK is heading for an IMF bailout.

Christopher Choke was also on this morning .. but with his head so far up Johnson's arse that it might not of been possible to decipher his sycophantic diatribe. From a man who appears to have not an iota of a grip on reality.

Two v different Tories.

Cornettoninja · 24/10/2022 09:42

@Piggywaspushed it was Will Walden if it’s the same interview I caught. BJ’s former director of communications

I was listening to Christopher Chope on R4 and wondering how on earth people can be so deluded as to actually believe what he was saying. How can he believe it? It's mind blowing that we can have people that thick in government, so I can only assume they know full well it's bullshit but give so little regard for the people they are speaking to that they can say shite like that with a straight face.

Blossomtoes · 24/10/2022 09:49

Chope and Bone are dinasaurs who should have been pensioned off years ago. They’re never going to stand down so the best thing to do with them is send them to the Lords.

Cornettoninja · 24/10/2022 09:49

Of note (to me anyway!) Will Walden pointed out that it’s highly likely this is the end of the road for Boris. If the next GE results follow recent pollings, BJ has no interest or stamina for being an opposition leader and that’s before considering it could be at least seven years before he could be within touching distance of PM.

By which time he’ll be 65 and a new generation of voters will be laughing at him. Looks like Walden’s right to me. I’ll be surprised if he doesn’t stand down at the next GE.

Sir Robert Buckland, the Welsh secretary, endorses Rishi Sunak. Having endorsed him in the summer and then defected to Liz Truss.

They'll enjoy that one over at Sunak HQ

Yes, that's him, Walden.

But chief ERG fuckwit, Steve Baker, has already declared for Sunak, what is for them to discuss?

Cornettoninja · 24/10/2022 10:00

I was trying to figure out what all this means for the ERG. Their ethos has seemingly being thoroughly rejected. Is this the end of them or are they likely to emerge rebranded, repopulated by moderates (if that even fits with their aims).

Ah you see their ethos hasn't been rejected. It wasn't tried. Or it wasn't tried by the right people. Or it wasn't tried in the right way. It was all a misunderstanding by the public and the markets. Etc etc.

I can see them setting a Defenders of Brexit club though.

DuncinToffee · 24/10/2022 10:13

Peston

Market interest rates - yield on government bonds - have fallen sharply on Johnson’s withdrawal from the contest and the prospect of “I-warned-you” Sunak taking over. The yirld on 5-year government debt is a staggering 0.25% lower this morning. The Johnson risk premium was big

...worth noting that the real economy is showing signs of rapid deterioration though - October PMI index slipped further into contraction indication territory this morning...

https://twitter.com/benchu/status/1584472262278664195?s=46&t=8-Gii_Sv-91OSWvXrqJv6jw

PMI is purchasing managers index. Over 50 suggests growth, under 50 suggests contraction.

IMF bailout looming

Notonthestairs · 24/10/2022 10:48

BREAKING: Majority of Tories now backing Sunak as public declarations tick up to 180 MPs. Mordaunt still on 25 MPs

twitter.com/bethrigby/status/1584480043836657664?s=46&t=8-Gi_Sv-91OSWvXrqJv6jw

Still quite a few left to decide.

Notonthestairs · 24/10/2022 12:12

ERG on @skynews now. CAN'T AGREE A CANDIDATE Francois: We believe we have one and potentially two extremely strong options but as a group we were unable to collectively enforce either candidate

twitter.com/bethrigby/status/1584502198876053504?s=46&t=87dE-xcJSuBZax4BrZ2cVA

Not sure I'd be impressed if my MP needed to be told who to vote for.
