Re the NT vote, that's a tiny proportion of the membership who actually voted, thankfully enough to see off RT this time. Apathy really is the enemy.

ancientgran · 07/11/2022 16:34

Haven't been to a National Trust property in years after we were clearly subjected to racist behaviour the last time we went to one. We would have walked out but we were meeting friends in the grounds so were a bit stuck. I wouldn't give them the drippings off my nose let alone money.

DuncinToffee · 07/11/2022 17:17

Braverman didn’t show up for Sir Roger Gale's UQ on the overcrowding at the migrant processing facility at Manston & safeguarding for minors.

Jenrick was sent in her place.

That’s awful @ancientgran Sad I’ve seen many changes in visitor demographics over the last 30 years but I’m sure they still have an enormous amount of work to do to promote their properties as welcoming to all.
I was part of a group who fed into a discussion about a property I visit often and reaching people who don’t think it’s for them was a key focus, but if someone has a bad experience there I don’t blame them one bit for not supporting it.

I don’t think the vast majority of the membership would even realise that RT had the agenda they do. Sad

Blossomtoes · 07/11/2022 17:20

Does Braverman ever turn up for anything? She’s obviously emulating Patel.

DuncinToffee · 07/11/2022 17:20

Ofcourse Anderson and Leigh were happy to spout their right-wing rhetoric

Lee Anderson(Tory MP) - "When I hear words like sourcing houses & getting extra hotel spaces for illegal immigrants, it leaves a bitter taste in my throat... when are we going to send them straight back the same day"
twitter.com/Haggis_UK/status/1589651150726631425?t=Zg5nhqLcro-hGc0sWrS4_g&s=19

Edward Leigh(Tory MP) - "Isn't the solution to repeal the Human Rights Act, get out of the European Refugee convention, repeal the modern slavery act, so people can be detained when they arrive... & then deported"

And another muppet

Conservative MP Scott Benton says his constituents are "sick and tired of this ridiculous narrative of economic migrants somehow being mistreated at Manston

He says his constituents "could only dream of" receiving the same sort of treatment.

Thank you, it was humiliating and as the white half of a mixed couple I think I was more upset than my husband. I suppose he's experienced so much since he came here as a baby in 1948 that it didn't shock him the way it did me. Not that we've never had experiences before or since but this was the worst.

Wow, he should be really ashamed as a Conservative MP that his constituents have that bad a life. What has his party been ding for the last 12 years.

Saucery · 07/11/2022 17:29

Oh yes, that pesky Human Rights Act. Giving Rights to Humans. Hmm

Lee Anderson is a knobhead. A bully in a blue rosette because that’s the best thing to give him a licence to bully.

I'm appalled that your family had to experience that ancientgran. I'm not surprised that you wouldn't want to spend another penny on the NT. I'd like to think those attitudes had died out long ago but clearly not.

I think - hope - that the NT is trying to become more inclusive and provide a wider context to our history. Any attempt to limit those efforts (as Restore Trust was hoping to do) needs to be resisted.

Notonthestairs · 07/11/2022 18:26

Lee Anderson and gang aren't muppets, they are thuggish and play to the lowest common denominator. I very much doubt Scott Benton's constituents want to be deprived of their liberty or be unable to work.

Grin Imagine being fired cos you were in a strop about not getting to go the queen's funeral. In fact you were so annoyed you tried to bully your colleague, by WhatsApp GrinGrin

This just about sums up how ridiculous everything has become.

the80sweregreat · 07/11/2022 19:26

Most people had to watch the funeral on tv.
Obviously Sir Gavin thought this was beneath him.
Such a tool

For me....it's the thought of the Queen's funeral being some sort of gig he wanted a ticket for.
Really really crass

Notonthestairs · 07/11/2022 22:53

Johnson has drawn up his honours list.

"EXC: Boris Johnson's resignation honours list has been finalised

The final list includes Nadine Dorries, three other MPs, the donor who arranged Johnson’s holiday to Mustique, and two former No 10 aides set to become the youngest life peers ever"

twitter.com/lara_spirit/status/1589743327678984192?s=46&t=aPG46p9oQmBsOSDYYsIalQ

"Holac will vet these names. Should they be approved, it is unclear if the four sitting MPs would trigger by-elections or seek to defer their peerages until the next election

Deferral is without constitutional precedent and risks a showdown with the King"

twitter.com/lara_spirit/status/1589743335883046913?s=46&t=aPG46p9oQmBsOSDYYsIalQ

Dacre is on the list despite having been turned down by the vetting committee previously. As is David Ross Tory donor 🙄

Notonthestairs · 07/11/2022 22:55

I'd be amazed if Dorries gets an honour after her blatant lying about Channel 4.

news.sky.com/story/amp/nadine-dorries-may-have-used-parliamentary-privilege-to-traduce-reputation-of-channel-4-say-mps-12725575

BlessMyCottonSocks · 07/11/2022 23:18

Notonthestairs · 07/11/2022 22:55

Knowing this government, I’d be amazed if she doesn’t.

Notonthestairs · 07/11/2022 23:22

I'd hope the committee would reject her on the basis of her own misuse of big bad SM as well.

But you are probably right Bless. Dishonesty pays.

DowningStreetParty · 08/11/2022 06:33

Ugh what would ANY of those people adding to the Lords? Nothing
A peerage is not a reward for blind loyalty however disgusting and dishonest your boss is.
Dorries is a known liar about so much going back to her earliest days as an MP

it's the thought of the Queen's funeral being some sort of gig he wanted a ticket for.
exactly Rousette
He just couldn’t bear not being able to be ‘seen’ there. Like it’s a cool guest list event.
We shouldn’t have to tolerate what the Tories are doing to political standards, it’s so corrupting and anti-democratic.
as for deferring your place until you inevitably lose the next election- they just have no shame at all, do they? Again, a life peerage whixh has law making powers is not a Tory Party carriage clock to be given in retirement.
There should be a standards investigation over this.

DowningStreetParty · 08/11/2022 06:40

I’m going to write to my useless Tory MP about Williamson’s disgusting behaviour, Hancock, these peerages of people disbarred before, lying Dorries being proposed etc. They need to know how offensive all this is and that Johnson’s shameful disgusting behaviour has allowed disgusting behaviour to spread further in their party and that we can all see it.

Gavin Williamson denies fresh bullying allegations
‘Sir Gavin Williamson has denied further accusations of using bullying language against officials.
According to the Guardian, the Cabinet Office minister told a senior civil servant to "slit your throat" and "jump out of the window" when he was defence secretary.
The unnamed official claimed Sir Gavin "deliberately demeaned and intimidated" them.’
