Thank you Duncin !

ClaudineClare · 06/11/2022 09:06

It amazes me how stupid these people are. Surely you should work on the assumption that anything you write could end up being published/leaked and conduct yourself accordingly?

Oliver Dowden with Sophy Ridge this morning just came across as completely stuck up. Looking down his nose at the little people

#Ridge: Gavin Williamson is being investigated for alleged bullying towards the former chief Whip.. what's your reaction to his messages?

Oliver Dowden: "These were sent in the heat of the moment.. that's in the past.. but the PM still has confidence in Williamson"

I support them but it’s with trepidation. It should never have come to this but people have been kettled Sad

They’re not stupid they’re conceited. They think that there are no actual repercussions to themselves personally. And they’re right.

HonorHiding · 06/11/2022 09:54

Hardly the heat of the “moment” when some of the messages were sent in September and others in October. And the recurring refrain of “it’s in the past” is tiresome. Everything that has ever happened is in the past! Somehow they seem to think that means they’re not accountable for it.

countrygirl99 · 06/11/2022 10:14

If Williamson has that little self control he shouldn't be in any position of authority.

Another in my random National Trust election themed posts -

40,000 rightwing fanatics just tried to take over an organisation of 5,000,000+ members and push it to the hard right.

Only 70,000 people stopped them.

The other 4,900,000+ don't know how lucky they are.

😁

Thank you for helping spread the word on this - I also voted just in time and am so glad that I did. I will be watching out for this and similar moves in the future.

I agree, it is horrible that it has come to this.

I fully support the strike

Its good to know that bullying is ok as long as it is in the heat of the moment.

@Janiie is being a sex pest ok as well as long as its in the heat of the moment?

Notonthestairs · 06/11/2022 11:11

@BlessMyCottonSocks @Decisionfatiguequeen

That is great 🗳
It hadn't occurred to me that we'd need to keep a close eye on what was happening at the National Trust. I'm sure I generally stick the ballot information in our recycling.

The election has made sense of a few overtly critical articles about the NT over the last few months. I shall pay closer attention to who is writing them and who is quoted.

I'm sure Restore Trust will regroup and try again.

Notonthestairs · 06/11/2022 11:27

"A second Conservative MP, @markjenkinsonmp, re-shares a post about their personal experience of bullying after revelations about Gavin Williamson’s conduct."

Williamson might not where the bodies are buried but I suspect he's made quite a few enemies a long the way.

Notonthestairs · 06/11/2022 11:32

A helpful reminder of Oliver Dowden

This from Andrew Rawnsley caught my attention

We are the only G7 country to be poorer today than we were pre-pandemic. The predicted post-Covid boom never materialised and now we must brace for another downturn. The Bank of England’s grim forecast is that Britons will still be worse off in 2025 than they were before Covid and people didn’t feel terribly prosperous then.
They'll say Russia & Covid are accountable but that won't work given both of those issues have impacted the rest of the G7.

Rishi Sunak: “This government will have integrity, professionalism and accountability at every level

Eve · 06/11/2022 12:36

I went to see An Inspector Calls last night , written in 1945 set pre 1st WW1, as relevant today as it was then with its theme of low paid striking workers asking for a rise.

tobee · 06/11/2022 17:43

I saw the film the other day @Eve and was thinking the same thing.

ClaudineClare · 07/11/2022 09:23

So, which day this week will Williamson either resign or be fired?

ancientgran · 07/11/2022 10:12

Will he get another payout for losing a ministerial job? I'm assuming he's already had two. If he does I think Sunak should reimburse the tax payers as he shouldn't have given him the job.

mibbelucieachwell · 07/11/2022 10:14
Grin Imagine being fired cos you were in a strop about not getting to go the queen's funeral. In fact you were so annoyed you tried to bully your colleague, by WhatsApp GrinGrin
the80sweregreat · 07/11/2022 10:36

I Am a bit confused
Lbc news just now , the government have told the COP meeting that they pledge 200 million for more renewable energy initiatives to save the planet
The next story is about the billions we owe and how that will result in higher taxes / austerity and how grim the next budget will be.
No wonder people are angry
The Sir Gavin Williamson story is just as bad too
They seem to be all over the place.

DuncinToffee · 07/11/2022 12:39

PM's spokesman says Rishi Sunak has full confidence in Gavin Williamson.
^^
Sunak apparently knew of a complaint but didn’t know the substance of the messages to Morton - and thinks he as an "important role to play in government"

This is worrying

NEW: The government has been accused of “gerrymandering” and “legalised voter suppression” by pushing ahead with mandatory voter ID for next year’s May local elections, amid renewed concerns that young people will be locked out of voting
