Thx Duncin for thread. I'm away so not contributing as much as I'd like.

If it goes to Tory party members, I cannot see Sunak getting in given the racism running through the party and it's members

Just horrific, how she kept her cool I do not know. She drilled down very carefully and got to the 'but he's brown' bit.
I am afraid there are a lot of "Jerry from Lowestoft" in the party

TomPinch · 23/10/2022 19:00

I do like the idea of the Tories being reduced to 20 in the next parliament and being led by Kemi Badenoch because there would be no one else and Jerry from Lowestoft having aneurism as a result.

I didn't know what to think or how to react during that.

But..... ShockShockShockShockShockShockShockShockShockShockShock

Blossomtoes · 23/10/2022 19:19

Shocking, isn’t it? I try not to think about how many Jerry from Lowestofts there are.

itsgettingweird · 23/10/2022 19:23

I don't believe for one minute most of the actual electorate believe that.

For a start they have such a diverse cabinet - unless that's for show but why do that for show and then make statements that they don't believe it's what the country actually wants?

Jerry is an idiot though and anyone else who agrees.

BREAKING NEWS:
BBC reporting that Johnson has approached Mordaunt to ask her to drop out of the contest and switch her endorsementst to him. She has refused.

Good for her. The entitlement of the man.

Does that translate as he doesn't have enough votes unless she gives him hers?

He's a man, who knows what a woman is. Morduant isn't and doesn't, but really ought to know her place.

Yes I think it's for show but within the cabinet, they aren't Jerry, but they want to appeal to all the Jerry's don't they. Hence the likes of Patel and Braverman, Rwanda etc.
And Tory being the party of choice for UKIPers

tobee · 23/10/2022 21:04

He's out!

WildRosie · 23/10/2022 21:06

Thank goodness. Shows up Rees-Mogg et al to be a set of horseshit-spouting nincompoops.

WildRosie · 23/10/2022 21:08

I expect this means Rishi Sunak is our Prime Minister elect, so to speak. Commiserations to Penny Mordaunt but BJ can do one.

tobee · 23/10/2022 21:08

People have moved on

coffeeandbiscuittime · 23/10/2022 21:11

So Boris has decided not to run, but we have to remember that Sunak was with him in Govt throughout all his shit show.
Although i am pleased Boris is not running I remain concerned for our country.

Blossomtoes · 23/10/2022 21:16

Mordaunt could easily get 100+ nominations. If she goes to the membership she’ll win hands down.

tobee · 23/10/2022 21:19

"Although we did get 102 supporters!"

tobee · 23/10/2022 21:23

Amazing seeing his statement! When you have this low opinion of someone. And then they absolutely live up to that opinion. The amount of times I think "hang on, am I really being fair? Have I been biased?" And the answer is no!

He's out!

DH will be disappointed, he predicted a Boris return last week, before Truss even resigned.

I'm disappointed as I am a bit of accelerationist and enjoy the drama and prospect of destruction of the Tory party, but for the country/economy Sunak being in charge for a few months/years is for the best. If we had a GE soon and Labour won (likely), then they'd just be inheriting chaos and probably be out after a term.
Let the Tories clean up their own mess for a little while longer.

Carrie will be pissed off, having had the holiday cut short and come back to pouring rain....

We are still left with 2 bad choices.

Be interesting to see what happens now. Will everyone get behind Sunak? Or will the grudges still be held? Can't see Dorries forgiving and forgetting

I'd like to think they will all decide to put the psychodrama aside for a while and get on with the serious business of running the county, given there are several serious issues that need immediate attention.
I can't see it, though.

DuncinToffee · 23/10/2022 23:17

It's going to be musical chairs again with cabinet positions first. Hope to see the back of Rees Mogg, Coffey, Gullis and fear Braverman will be back.
Will Hunt stay in place?
