The saddest songs

After going down a You Tube rabbithole this evening, I've just watched Judi Dench performing Send In The Clowns and I've never felt so desolate. Do you have a sad song that just gets you in the feels? I fear I may never be the same again!

Eric Clapton’s song about losing his son.

*based on the last text messages to loved ones who knew they wouldn't make It home on 9/11😢

Dance with my father again

That song about "Billy, don't be a hero, come back and make me your wife" that was out in the 70's used to make me sob wildly as a child and I still can't stand to hear it now. I have no idea why it hit me so hard but I really reacted to it.

In the Ghetto always makes me sad thinking of cycles of generations condemned to poverty, violence and lack of chances, and I don't see anything changing in those environments today.

These are all heartbreaking. I loved Tears In Heaven until I heard the backstory about Eric Clapton's son, haven't been able to listen to it since

What is life without thee, sung by Kathleen Ferrier

Afterfire · 20/10/2022 19:41

Oh gosh tons!

tracy chapman - fast car, always reminds me of mine and my mums relationship

Taylor Swift - Ronan, written for a little boy who died of cancer, with his mothers words to him as he died written as part of the lyric

Jewell - you were meant for me, always reminds me of my first big heartbreak

joni Mitchell - both sides now, bawled my eyes out to it on the way home from dropping dd off to university

I am addicted to sad songs a little bit I think. Can be such a release.

Sylvia's mother just made me well up a bit

Wicked Game- Chris Isaac

Anchorage by Michelle Shocked. Not tear jerker sad, more melancholy sad. About how you thought your life would turn out and how it did.

I LOVE Sylvia's mother. Did you know that Sylvia actually existed and the conversation with Mrs Avery actually happened? I found this out about a month ago 😁😁

Already mentioned above but for me I cannot listen to Ronan by Taylor Swift without ugly crying.

Imamumgetmeoutofhere · 20/10/2022 19:47

I will carry you by Selah is very sad. I played it a lot when we lost our baby and it made me feel less alone as I know countless of women have been through this before and countless women will continue to do so Flowers

I made the mistake just now of looking up the lyrics again after I mentioned it and now I’m crying like an idiot and Ds and dh are looking at me wondering what is wrong with me! Just so sad. Beautiful song.

George by Lee Forsyth Griffiths , but you likely need to know the back story .
