After going down a You Tube rabbithole this evening, I've just watched Judi Dench performing Send In The Clowns and I've never felt so desolate. Do you have a sad song that just gets you in the feels? I fear I may never be the same again!

An lady of a certain age - The Divine Comedy. The thought of such a wasted life makes me incredibly sad.

I made the mistake just now of looking up the lyrics again after I mentioned it and now I’m crying like an idiot and Ds and dh are looking at me wondering what is wrong with me! Just so sad. Beautiful song.

When she sings "I can still feel you hold my hand, little man" I just lose it. Have tears in my eyes just thinking about it.

Angel - the Westlife version.
I miscarried and heard this song and it broke me.
Can't listen to it now.

Redannie118 · 20/10/2022 20:06

Labelled with love- Squeeze
Both sides now- Joni Mitchell
Because of you- Kelly Clarkson. So, so so close to home.
Runaway train-Soul Asylum. The song came out when i was in the grip of severe PND with an abusive husband and narc mum. The person who wrote this must have crawled into my head and pulled all the words out.

Who will sing me lullabies by Kate Rusby. Written about her friend who died but always makes me think of how I felt when my dad died.

Lay me down gently
Oh lay me down low
I feel I am broken
And won't mend I know
One thing I ask when the stars light the sky
Who now will sing me lullabies

nokitchen · 20/10/2022 20:30

I loved her first - heartland

Music makes me emotional more than anything else. I can watch sad films or shows or read sad books and nothing, but music? Weeping for hours.

The first song that sprang to mind is a country song by Alan Jackson,
"Blue Ridge Mountain Song"

It's about a young couple that marry and buy a house and the woman dies and leaves the man alone.

He met her in the fall of '93 in the hills of Tennessee
She was barely 17, he was tall and strong and lean
They were deep in love by June
Hand in hand beneath that moon

And she'd sing a little Blue Ridge Mountain song
And he'd just hum along
And they'd dance all night 'til dawn
On a hillside all alone
They were young and they were free
Like a mountain melody
In love as they could be
Singing that Blue Ridge song

She married in her mama's wedding gown
Bought a house and settled down
He worked driving all around
Hauling logs from town to town
And he'd come home every night
And she'd be waiting in the front porch light

And she'd sing a little Blue Ridge Mountain song
And he'd just hum along
They'd dance all night till dawn
On the front porch all alone
They were young and they were free
Like a mountain melody
In love as they could be
Singing that Blue Ridge song

They couldn't tell him what was wrong
But they just didn't know
It wasn't very long 'til Jesus called her home
And he got down on his knees
Said, "God, don't take my love from me"

Just let her sing a little Blue Ridge Mountain song
Like she has all along
And I'll dance with her 'til dawn
On a hillside all alone
And we'll spend eternity like a mountain melody
In love as we can be
Singing that Blue Ridge song

Now he lives there all alone
In the house that they called home
In his heart there lies a void
From the absence of her voice
And he lays down every night
Dreams about that front porch light

Where she'd sing a little Blue Ridge Mountain song
He'd just hum along
They'd dance all night until dawn
On the hillside all alone
They were young and they were free
Like a mountain melody
In love as they could be
Singing that Blue Ridge song
...

It's such a beautiful song... And now I've got something in my eye...
