After going down a You Tube rabbithole this evening, I've just watched Judi Dench performing Send In The Clowns and I've never felt so desolate. Do you have a sad song that just gets you in the feels? I fear I may never be the same again!

He Ain t Heavy, he's my brother. By the Justice Collective. The picture of the little girl in blue (everton) and the smaller boy in red ( liverpool) just does me in, even before I hear the song. For me it shows the way both clubs, and the city came together to ensure justice for the 97.

Mary Stanford of Rye - Meet on the Ledge. I love a sad song and this one gets me every time, it's about a lifeboat crew in the 1920s that all drowned attempting a rescue of a boat that was already saved.

People have already mentioned a couple - Abba's Slipping Through my Fingers and Pink Ffloyd's Wish You Were Here.

Memory - Barbara Streisand
Run - Leona Lewis
Sound of Silence - Simon and Garfunkel
Tiny Dancer - Elton John
To Build a Home - The Cinematic Orchestra

Loads more obviously. Even Cilla has made me cry.

Saw John Barrowman perform this a few years ago. He put so much emotion into the song, it’s as if he had experienced himself, and/all was telling a story through the lyrics. I admit, I welled up (in the darkness at Savoy theatre) and the song has never been the same to me since.

PanettoneMoly · 20/10/2022 21:19

I know it won’t be anyones everyone’s taste but Goodbye My lover by James Blunt.

Riverlee · 20/10/2022 21:20

Sorry, love Daddy - Brian McFadden - lyrics and emotion gets to me

She - Elvis Costelloe - was in the charts during a difficult stage of my first pregnancy. When I hear the song, takes me back to the hot summer of ‘99.

PicturesOfDogs · 20/10/2022 21:20

Everybody hurts always gets me

Riverlee · 20/10/2022 21:21

Also, Borderline by Chris de Burgh. The lyrics are heartbreaking.

LIC1985 · 20/10/2022 21:21

Oh some of these are just all of the feels.

I can't get past the first chorus of "everything I own" by Bread without crying

A580Hojas · 20/10/2022 21:22

And I know it was much maligned and very much hated by certain purists, by Stormzy's rap at the start of the Bridge Over Troubled Waters cover for Grenfell does actually make me cry. I was more affected by that tragedy than any other I can think of.

heading4summer · 20/10/2022 21:23

A thousand years by Christina Perri

Sang by my friend's teenage daughter at the funeral when her mum died far too young. Makes me cry even thinking about it.

Vaccine001 · 20/10/2022 21:24

Look.Mama No Hands - Camille O'Sullivan

BigFatLiar · 20/10/2022 21:24

A couple of ours

Everybody hurts - good song about pain
Cats in the cradle - oh's favourite about making time for each other
What a wonderful world - there's always something amazing if you simply look
The living years - don't let things break you up.
Old and wise/time (Alan parsons)

Lots of songs bring out emotion

Canthinkofaname79 · 20/10/2022 21:26

Mike and the mechanics, the living years.

"I wasn't there that morning
When my Father passed away
I didn't get to tell him
All the things I had to say
… I think I caught his spirit
Later that same year
I'm sure I heard his echo
In my baby's new born tears
I just wish I could have told him in the living years."

Makes me bawl!

PeanutAnarchy · 20/10/2022 21:30
