The saddest songs

After going down a You Tube rabbithole this evening, I've just watched Judi Dench performing Send In The Clowns and I've never felt so desolate. Do you have a sad song that just gets you in the feels? I fear I may never be the same again!

Everybody Hurts by REM.

2 of my brothers died within a year of each other when I was a child and this song seemed to always be on the radio when the second one died so I associate it with them and the pain that was around us at that time.

Only our rivers run free - my dad used to sing it as his party trick. It feels melancholic.

The first Time ever I saw your face- Roberta Flack...the opening bars just stop me in my tracks and I start welling up. George Michael's version is superb too

Loads already mentioned. Also Spit of You by Sam Fender, total heartbreaker. Hallelujah by Haim - I was one of three sisters and we are now only two so this one is really sad for me.

Yebba, my mind
If you've ever been cheated on or done wrong it's the song for you.
I watch her sing it on repeat and just can't get over how raw and amazing she is! Yet no one in the UK really knows her!

Absolutely love her, think she's going to be massive. What a voice. Her album Dawn is absolutely brilliant and a lot of the songs are about her mother's suicide. October Sky in particular is beautiful and so sad.

A wave across a bay by Frank Turner. It's a tribute to Scott from Frightened Rabbit who took his own life.

Ever falling. Never landing.

Billy Joel, Lullabye (Goodnight, my Angel). Sob.

Puff the magic dragon

I sob every time.
The same with "Shine on you Crazy Diamond"
Two little boys used to make cry until Rolf was exposed as a paedophile.

The Verve- The Drugs Don't Work

Reportedly about Richard Ashcroft's dying father. The 'like a cat in a bag, waiting to drown' line gets me every time. I can't listen to it anymore. I've seen Richard Ashcroft live in concert several times and always disappear for a loo break when it starts!!

No personal resonance, it's just a sad song.

A song called 'Lungs' by a beautiful guitarist and folk singer John smith, the chorus goes:

'I gave up nothing
You gave me everything
Until you gave me away'

Shitfather · 20/10/2022 22:28
