The saddest songs

After going down a You Tube rabbithole this evening, I've just watched Judi Dench performing Send In The Clowns and I've never felt so desolate. Do you have a sad song that just gets you in the feels? I fear I may never be the same again!

Fix You - Cold Play

Bridge Over Troubled Water - Art Garfunkel

Whenever I have gone through tough times these songs are always played on the radio.

This Woman’s Work by Kate Bush - doesn’t matter how much I hear it, I always get tears in my eyes

I agree.

Little Drummer Boy as sung by Bob Dylan. No idea why, but it always makes me cry.

Pinkespressomachine · 20/10/2022 20:42

Bright Eyes from Watership down. This Woman’s
Work by Kate Bush. Together in Electric Dreams - which I’m sure shouldn’t be as sad as it feels to me. Those are the 3 that I can’t help but tear up to as soon as they start….

Slothsandspiderman · 20/10/2022 20:44

I’d never heard Ronan. Just you tube’d it. Beautiful, beautiful boy - heartbreaking😢😢

Imamumgetmeoutofhere · 20/10/2022 20:46

Oh and Read all about it by professor Green. As someone who has spent most of the life without one of their parents due to some very unwise choices made by that parent - that some hits me hard, especially the line "but unlike you, if I ever have kids, I'll never let them be without me".

That hits hard

The Sun’s Coming Over the Hill by Karine Polwart. About the death of an addict partner.

‘There are better days gone than those that remain’.

Mammyloveswine · 20/10/2022 20:47

I know you by heart by Eva Cassidy..

Beautiful boy by Colleen Macmahon.. there's a documentary about the man she is singing about, Tom Bridegroom.

A drop in the ocean by Ron Pope..

Also last first kiss by Ron Pope.. not a sad song but makes me cry every time anyway!

RedDwarfGarbagePod · 20/10/2022 20:49

I Can't Make You Love Me, by Bonnie Raitt.

In the Ghetto - Elvis Presley. Guaranteed to be a tearjerker.

Streets of London - Ralph McTell. As above.

The Boxer - Simon and Garfunkel. Played at my Dad's funeral.

Wires - Athlete. Reminds me of when my Mum was dying of cancer.

Lyrics from a song when I was grieving for my Mum: When you're gone, well maybe it's time to move on, but there's a bit of you in everything, and I can hardly move.

Who Knew - Pink. As above. Especially these words:

That last kiss, I'll cherish until we meet again
And time makes it harder, I wish I could remember
But I keep your memory, you visit me in my sleep

I'll stand by you - Pretenders. This was in the charts when I got married. I remember it coming on the radio in the morning of my wedding day as I was getting ready.

Sorry to the poster who this song reminds her of when her baby died.

Fix You - Cold Play. One of my, 'grief songs'

DeannaFromHumanResources · 20/10/2022 20:55

Gets me every time.

Marshmello33 · 20/10/2022 20:57

Yebba, my mind
If you've ever been cheated on or done wrong it's the song for you.
I watch her sing it on repeat and just can't get over how raw and amazing she is! Yet no one in the UK really knows her!

Obeythedancecommander · 20/10/2022 20:57

Time by Pink Floyd.

This was the last song at my dad's funeral. My dad died very suddenly this year at only 62 and he loved this song so much, it was sadly all too fitting for the situation. Gives me a lump in my throat when I listen to the lyrics. The fact Roger waters wrote this at only 28/29 blows my mind.

DeannaFromHumanResources · 20/10/2022 20:58

And another…

Canthinkofaname79 · 20/10/2022 20:59

Wires by Athlete, about premature babies, my daughter was born at 31 weeks. It's the line "first night of your life, curled up on your own, looking at you now, you would never know."
My daughter is 15 next week. Beautiful song.

RedRec · 20/10/2022 20:59

Don't Marry Her by The Beautiful South. Don't know why but it chokes me up every time.

AllThatAndMore · 20/10/2022 21:00

Tears in Heaven - Eric Clapham
Ronan ( Taylor’s version) - Taylor Swift

Both songs have a story behind them . Both make me cry every time I listen to them , especially Ronan ( hysterically crying).

Omgwhatthehell · 20/10/2022 21:02

Diamonds and Rust by Joan Baez is beautiful but melancholy.

RedRec · 20/10/2022 21:02

Seasons in the sun

Agree with both but 24 Hours From Tulsa makes me angry too. The cheating arsehole can't keep it in his pants for one day longer.

Walkbyall · 20/10/2022 21:03

Handbags and Gladrags. Makes me think of my lovely grandad and also all the tat I bought on credit in my early twenties
