Scarf and Giraffe don't rhyme

Another night ready Julia Donaldson books and another frustrating non-rhymey rhyme.

Scarf and giraffe don't rhyme. Neither do plant and can't.

Anyone else??

I agree.

Purplelion · 13/10/2022 21:27

I don’t see how plant and can’t don’t rhyme?

MyCousinDaphne · 13/10/2022 21:27

Both rhyme for me

TokyoSushi · 13/10/2022 21:27

I suppose scarfff and giraaarrrfff rhyme a bit. As do plarnt and can't - but it's very accent dependent! They don't rhyme for me!

TedMullins · 13/10/2022 21:28

Yes they do

JustPickleRick · 13/10/2022 21:28

They do if you live down south!

orbitalcrisis · 13/10/2022 21:28

They do if you're southern.

PragmaticWench · 13/10/2022 21:28

Err, but they do rhyme!

BillHadersLeftEye · 13/10/2022 21:28

Depends on your accent. Both rhyme in mine

DuckTails · 13/10/2022 21:28

They do rhyme. I won’t hear a word against Julia Donaldson.

Mum2jenny · 13/10/2022 21:28

They rhyme for me too

Flopisfatteningbingforchristmas · 13/10/2022 21:28

While we are discussing it ‘Rhyming Rabbit’ annoys me for reasons I can’t identify. He is annoying and the sheep is needy. On the whole I love JD books.

Melonymelony · 13/10/2022 21:28

They rhyme for me!

Talipesmum · 13/10/2022 21:28

They do with southern vowels. They don’t in Mancunian.
Southern vowels: scarrr-f and girarrr-f.
Mancunian: scarrr-f and giraffff

I don’t see how plant and can’t don’t rhyme?

Plant is a short 'a' sound like in Ant. Can't is a longer 'aarr' sort of sound.

They both rhyme the way I say them.
Sometime it will be to with accents and way of speaking.
They both rhyme quite easily if you think about the way you pronounce them.

TedMullins · 13/10/2022 21:28

Yes they do

No they don't.

Depends on your accent. Plant and can’t rhyme for me but not scarf and giraffe.
Most of her rhyming rhythm is excellent but sometimes there are accent differences.

musicandpassion · 13/10/2022 21:29

None of those things rhyme. The closest rhyme is scarf and can't, but they still don't actually rhyme.

fudgefiesta · 13/10/2022 21:29

Plant and can't do in quite a lot of accents, and scarf and sound pretty similar too. Not if I was reading them, but for many people they will.

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 13/10/2022 21:29

This is light-hearted btw Grin

NameChangeLifeChange · 13/10/2022 21:29

They rhyme for me. Maybe you’re talking wrong Grin Northern DH has same issue

Smartiepants79 · 13/10/2022 21:29

plant and can’t can both be said with the short ‘a’ sound.

friedbrainrightnow · 13/10/2022 21:30

Plant and can’t definitely rhyme in my accent

mrsjimhopper · 13/10/2022 21:30

The definitely don't rhyme. It's like shone and dawn all over again.
