Another night ready Julia Donaldson books and another frustrating non-rhymey rhyme.

Scarf and giraffe don't rhyme. Neither do plant and can't.

Anyone else??

Aaah this makes my teeth itch, the kids all know now that I get my TA to read that page because it rhymes in her accent but not in mine 😆

Eehh??!!!

Perfect rhyme!

Curtain... pull... oh never mind, I'll get me coat.

Why is everyone saying 'Yes they rhyme, no they don't' It's all dependant on your accent. There. Finished.

But where’s the fun in that? 😂

Plant is a short 'a' sound like in Ant. Can't is a longer 'aarr' sort of sound.

If you are from the south both words have the same a sound

Those that are saying scarf and giraffe don’t rhyme - what would you rhyme giraffe with? Genuine question, I’m struggling to think of any other way to pronounce it.

WhispersOfWickedness · 13/10/2022 22:10

Scarf and giraffe don't rhyme. (Sc ah f/ji raff)
Aunt and ant don't rhyme. (Ahh nt/ant)
Certain and curtain do rhyme.
Put and putt don't rhyme. (Poot/p uh t)
Plant and can't don't rhyme. (Pl a nt/c ah n't)
Scarf and laugh don't rhyme. (Sc ah f/laff)

The word rhyme is starting to look a bit weird now 🤪

I need this time saving energy on more threads.

There'd be no 'cancel the cheque' on and on and on-ery nonsense with you keeping watch.

In my mind you'd look like Shirl from Eastenders.

I much prefer her non rhyming stories.

TheDogsMother · 13/10/2022 22:14

Aunt and ant definitely do not rhyme to someone from the south.

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 13/10/2022 22:14

I have nothing against her stories but I feel they are accent-ist

My boss is from saaff landan too and he spends about 90% of our meetings just trying to figure out what words I'm saying. It's how I get away with doing what I want.
