I'm not really a Royalist, but this is sad news. The fact it has been announced in the HOC makes me think she must be really quite unwell.

She is just such a constant, a link to a world that no longer exists. A person that actually believes in duty to the country.

Currently on a bulletin interrupting usual programming on BBC1.

Dodie66 · 08/09/2022 12:42

Just saw that too. It’s also on sky news news.sky.com/story/queen-under-medical-supervision-as-doctors-are-concerned-for-her-health-12692805

Northernlurker · 08/09/2022 12:43

I can't contemplate this. Obviously nobody is immortal but the Queen has seemed so permanent.

headstone · 08/09/2022 12:44

This must be quite serious.

Thesearmsofmine · 08/09/2022 12:45

She is obviously very unwell.

MrsRobinsonsHandprints · 08/09/2022 12:45

NorthernLurker Agree, just such a presence throughout our lives.

I know lots don't think there should be any link between government and the state but many PM's have said what a wealth of knowledge she has.

Must be serious.

Northernlurker · 08/09/2022 12:46

I have never seen concern expressed before. This is the nation being prepared I think.

NoYouSirName · 08/09/2022 12:46

Yes, it sounds like she is very poorly, for this to be announced. Quite rightly, the news regarding her health has been kept very private. This feels like ‘setting the scene’.

I’m not particularly a royalist, nor anti monarchy. But as a Brit born in the 80s, she’s been a constant unwavering beacon of the UK. It’s quite sad to think she is unwell, I don’t think there’s ever been another prominent Brit more dedicated and steadfast to their heritage and responsibilities.

CrotchetyQuaver · 08/09/2022 12:48

Poor HMQ.
It sounds like this might be the end. I will miss her lovely smile which completely lit up her face.

MrsRobinsonsHandprints · 08/09/2022 12:48

And yet on Tuesday she stood and took BJ resignation and met with LT.

I don't think there is anyone else in the country that would do their duty in such a way. She really is an amazing woman.

Must be serious if an official announcement has been made.

I hope she's comfortable.

iwishiwasafish · 08/09/2022 12:49

If this is the end for her, I suspect Balmoral would be where she would want to be.

Akite · 08/09/2022 12:49

Yes, reading between the lines seems like they are fairly confident she's nearing the end, I can't imagine them putting out a statement like that otherwise.
im not a royalist by any means but what a turbulent few years this has been.

Yes, setting the scene is exactly right, I fear. I’ve also seen reports that “close family” have been informed. For someone as unflappable and reluctant to cause a fuss as the queen, it seems darkly serious.

Northernlurker · 08/09/2022 12:49

It has been obvious for some time that she was becoming much more frail. Her cardi was hanging off her on Tuesday. Hopefully they have a good plan to just leave her at Balmoral and care for her there.

Mumsnut · 08/09/2022 12:50

I hope she sees everyone she wants to see before the end

Pixiedust1234 · 08/09/2022 12:50

Oh no. Constant medical supervision would probably means she's unconscious and unlikely to rally. She's been such a constant and comfort to many.

Giveronyoursausage · 08/09/2022 12:51

Just watching sky news that Charles,Camilla and William are on their way to Balmoral.

It is amazing to think that Brits born in the 1950's have had her as a constant unwavering beacon.

The family are being called. Sorry seems ghoulish that I am following this just seems massive.

Shit.

I really don't want her to go.

HonorHiding · 08/09/2022 12:51

Prince William is said to be heading to Balmoral.

Antarcticant · 08/09/2022 12:52

I'm not a royalist, but well done to the Queen for managing to appoint the new PM with a smile for the cameras, when it seems she must have been in worse health than was perhaps admitted.
