I'm not really a Royalist, but this is sad news. The fact it has been announced in the HOC makes me think she must be really quite unwell.

She is just such a constant, a link to a world that no longer exists. A person that actually believes in duty to the country.

All overseas MPs trips are cancelled. Horrible feeling:(

Chanel05 · 08/09/2022 13:00

Not a royalist either but feel a sense of shock that this is likely the end for her, even though she's in her mid 90s. For William to be going up also it must be very serious and I'm guessing for goodbyes.

My grandmother in her 90s passed away last year and she was very fit and well and 3 weeks later had died. It happens so quickly at that age.

I’m not a royalist but I’m actually in tears and can’t even convey why!

By most peoples standards I'm tough and miserable but this has actually upset me, I think on top of all the crisis in the country at the moment this just seems ever bigger.

Of course it was coming but The Queen somehow seems more than human.

She has been our unwavering constant

I will be sad to see her go

vera99 · 08/09/2022 13:02

Was wondering why Harry and Meghan were staying at Windsor.

Rovinonmars · 08/09/2022 13:02

This is such sad news, I think there's very little doubt that this is the end considering the statement and the news that close family are travelling to be with her.

I hope she is comfortable and surrounded by people she loves.

PaddleBoardingMomma · 08/09/2022 13:02

Not to upset anyone further, or be crass but… how do we feel about Charles being king? I hadn’t given it any thought until just now, not sure what I think about it.

MrsRobinsonsHandprints · 08/09/2022 13:03

Sorry for your loss, but that is the way to go.

Describing her as "comfortable" is very deliberate. It's usually only used in certain situations including end of life care.

I was saying to DH the other day that our children (8 & 5) are likely to see at least 4 monarchs in their lifetimes - HM The Queen, Charles, William and George. So strange when you think what a constant she has been.

UnnecessaryFennel · 08/09/2022 13:04

This is sad news. I hope she is comfortable and among those she loves.

I am a republican at heart but have a lot of respect for the Queen herself.

I am not sure the country will cope very well if she goes now.

lollipoprainbow · 08/09/2022 13:04

Feel sick, think this is it, such a weird feeling.

CaveMum · 08/09/2022 13:05

Charles is already at Balmoral.

Chanel05 · 08/09/2022 13:05

@MrsRobinsonsHandprints thank you - and absolutely.

Wishing the queen lots of peace at this time.

For this level of breaking news coverage and the phrasing "condition" it's seems realistic that she has only weeks, more likely days left.

spiderlight · 08/09/2022 13:06

She's been such a constant throughout my life - I feel genuinely sad at this news even though I'm not a royalist. I suddenly found myself becoming fond of her when I saw the image of her photobombing a selfie at the Olympics a few years back - her smile reminded me of my mum's sense of humour.

CallMeBettyBoop · 08/09/2022 13:06

I've suspected for a long time that she was determined not to go while the odious Boris would be publicly leading the nation in mourning her loss.

Well played, Ma'am. Godspeed, and thank you FlowersGin

Wiping a few tears here myself

Caminante · 08/09/2022 13:08

Oh no poor Queenie 💔💔

CupcakesK · 08/09/2022 13:08

I know this has been looming for a while, but I feel that as a country we aren't ready for her to go yet. Everything is in such a mess, sometimes feels that her dignity and grace has been the only calming factor in a sea of chaos over the past few years.

feellikeanalien · 08/09/2022 13:09

As others have said, I'm not a royalist but this will be the end of an era. Makes me quite sad. So many unsettling things happening at the moment.

Absolutely this. But then I'm not sure we would ever really be ready.

GhostFromTheOtherSide · 08/09/2022 13:10

it’s interesting how we see some people as immortal, she’s 96 and yet there is a sense of sadness that she looks to be near the end…

HonorHiding · 08/09/2022 13:11

BBc saying it can’t be an “emergency” as they haven’t moved her from Balmoral, but I’m not sure that makes sense. However ill, I don’t think she’d want to be moved to hospital (or that the family would want that for her) and any palliative care can presumably be brought in.

GhostFromTheOtherSide · 08/09/2022 13:11

Seems a bit horrible though that we can almost follow the course she is taking through the media.

I imagine twitter is rife with horrible speculation as we speak.

Yes I agree.

The difficult question about the monarchy and the commonwealth were always going to come after The Queen. Royalist or otherwise the vast majority have a great respect for the Queen.

I don’t imagine at her time of life that it’s an emergency.

I suspect the bbc mean that she hasn’t likely suffered a stroke or similar which she might require treatment for.

But she is clearly old and frail and at that age it literally is possible to just breathe your last breath at any moment, just by virtue of being that age.
