I'm not really a Royalist, but this is sad news. The fact it has been announced in the HOC makes me think she must be really quite unwell.

She is just such a constant, a link to a world that no longer exists. A person that actually believes in duty to the country.

Cross-posted. Sky obviously doing better than the BBC on the whereabouts of Charles & Camilla.

I’m so sorry. I thought she looked very frail, almost unrecognisable when she met Liz Truss. I think that might be her last engagement.

Of course, she has made mistakes, she is a human being, and none of us are perfect. Personally, I would forgive her much for the way she conducted herself at The Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral, when anyone would have forgiven her having one supporter. But she aligned herself with all the others who had had to endure separation at a time of grief.

She has been a part of public life for so long, I think we will miss her more than even the haters will admit.

Quote from article

"Immediate family members have been told of the doctor's decision, Sky News' royal correspondent, Rhiannon Mills, said."

JacquelineCarlyle · 08/09/2022 12:53

Oh no, she looked frail but not at death's door when she met Liz Truss.

She really has been such a constant and to think that Winston Churchill was her first prime minister is unbelievable really.

I know that she's had a good innings, but I'd like her to be around for another few years yet!

NCFT0922 · 08/09/2022 12:53

@iwishiwasafish I agree, I think balmoral is where she would want to spend her remaining time. I hope she is comfortable and surrounded by those she loves.

CrunchyCarrot · 08/09/2022 12:53

I'm not that surprised, I think anyone of that age who has lost their long term much loved partner is going to go downhill quite quickly - even though the Queen has looked amazing her her demeanor lately, despite all that.

I will be very sad to see her reign come to an end, she is an incredible woman.

Yes I'm going to switch to Sky, BBC isn't good at royal news

MrsRobinsonsHandprints · 08/09/2022 12:54

iwish I agree, and for everyone Royal and pauper alike, all we hope for is being with those we love and where we want. I hope she is peaceful.

It’s the 1st anniversary of my FIL’s death in a few days, I’m not sure the family will cope if the country is in mourning.

If it is the end, I hope she has a peaceful passing.

CPL593H · 08/09/2022 12:54

It's never come close to anything like this before but I do know how quickly even people who have been amazing into their 90s can deteriorate. I hope that she is comfortable and her family can spend time with her.

Homewardbound2022 · 08/09/2022 12:55

Poor woman. She looked dreadfully frail in recent photos.

HonorHiding · 08/09/2022 12:56

Apparently Truss and Starmer were briefed by note during the energy debate.

KateBushyTail · 08/09/2022 12:56

What sad news

FrecklesMalone · 08/09/2022 12:56

Poor Queen. Not a royalist at all but she has been around forever and done a good job. Poor her as well as wasting some of her last days (potentially) have to see bloody Boris Johnson and Liz Truss.

butterflied · 08/09/2022 12:56

I'm not even British (or from the Commonwealth), but this makes me sad to read. The language from the Palace is quite telling, I think.

I hope she has family around her and isn't in pain from whatever it is.

MaggieFS · 08/09/2022 12:57

It clearly serious. I hope she is peaceful and that her family make it in time.

I'm surprised I haven't been pinged by an annoying Apple update yet.

Doidontimmm · 08/09/2022 12:57

I’m not a royalist but I’m actually in tears and can’t even convey why!

SurpriseSurprise · 08/09/2022 12:57

It’s just so sad. I hope it’s not what it looks like

Apparently Truss and Starmer were briefed by note during the energy debate.

Which makes it seem serious, she has never been one to make a fuss.

This has saddened me deeply today. She is an inspiring woman, I pray she is comfortable and with loved ones. What a year this is turning out to be.

I feel similarly and can only imagine it’s because it’s been a very unstable and trying few years, this feels like one more “constant” that’s changing. Nothing seems normal or predictable these days. Things we just presume to be stable, just… aren’t.

berksandbeyond · 08/09/2022 12:59

Yes I think this is the beginning of the end sadly. We are being prepped for an announcement. What a baptism of fire for Truss...!

If this is the end for her, I suspect Balmoral would be where she would want to be.

Yes I would agree
