I'm not really a Royalist, but this is sad news. The fact it has been announced in the HOC makes me think she must be really quite unwell.

She is just such a constant, a link to a world that no longer exists. A person that actually believes in duty to the country.

I've suspected for a long time that she was determined not to go while the odious Boris would be publicly leading the nation in mourning her loss.

Well played, Ma'am. Godspeed, and thank you FlowersGin

Wiping a few tears here myself

This makes me smile.

I think her death will be announced within the next few hours.

Justme10 · 08/09/2022 13:14

This makes me very sad, I hope she is as comfortable as she can be.

I know this has been looming for a while, but I feel that as a country we aren't ready for her to go yet. Everything is in such a mess, sometimes feels that her dignity and grace has been the only calming factor in a sea of chaos over the past few years.

Yes, I agree. I didn't know how to phrase it. Whatever one thinks of the monarchy, she's been an ever present, dignified, point of stability.

AffIt · 08/09/2022 13:16

I'm strangely upset by this.

I'm Scottish and a fairly hardcore republican - I don't agree with the principle of monarchy per se - but at the same time, I'm 43 and the Queen is all I have ever known. When she goes, the world will be different.

I wish her well and I hope she either recovers or has a peaceful passing surrounded by her family.

Foronenightonly22 · 08/09/2022 13:16

I’m not a royal either but it’s sad to hear. She seems to have declined wry quickly after her husbands death.

NoYouSirName · 08/09/2022 13:17

Echoing others here. I’m no royalist but admire the Quern and feeling sad.

We’ll said. End of a huge era

HappyPeach · 08/09/2022 13:19

😭I love the queen

Riverlee · 08/09/2022 13:20

Feel quite upset at the news. I know she can’t live for ever, but she’s always been there.

You maybe right. A woman who has defined her life by duty would no doubt have issues with someone who is so cavalier.

I'm not that surprised, I think anyone of that age who has lost their long term much loved partner is going to go downhill quite quickly - even though the Queen has looked amazing her her demeanor lately, despite all that.

I will be very sad to see her reign come to an end, she is an incredible woman.

Agree with this. She's not been the same since her husband died. Perfectly understandable but so sad.
She's been around all of our lives I think even those that aren't keen on her will feel a sense of loss when she passes.
I'd like to think so anyway.

BBc saying it can’t be an “emergency” as they haven’t moved her from Balmoral, but I’m not sure that makes sense. However ill, I don’t think she’d want to be moved to hospital (or that the family would want that for her) and any palliative care can presumably be brought in.

There are certain sections that still medicalise dying. I hope she remains where she wants to be.

Poor woman. She looked dreadfully frail in recent photos.

Yes. And she would have been heavily made up I would imagine? Still a beauty though.

Chanel05 · 08/09/2022 13:24

BBC has a speaker on and saying hope she makes a recovery. News anchor reinforced that there wouldn't be an announcement unless things were very serious.

I think this really shows that her death is imminent

Couldnothappenlater · 08/09/2022 13:24

I don't think anyone in this country is prepared for this, i know i'm not. I love our Liz, she is such a constant in everyone's life and held herself with such dignity.

It is going to be a sad, sad day when the news is announced. I hope she is at peace and ready to be with her strength and stay once more x

Saucery · 08/09/2022 13:25

If it is the news everyone thinks it is, may the God she has served so stalwartly through her life guide her on this part of her journey.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 08/09/2022 13:25

I fear I may cry, which is absurd

I’m not at all religious, but this is lovely.

PeekabooAtTheZoo · 08/09/2022 13:26

This hardly seems real. I know she’s knocking on for 96 but my parents were born and died within her lifetime. I can’t comprehend how big this feels.

abovedecknotbelow · 08/09/2022 13:26

The itv newsreader is in black and pearls. She's normally in bright clothes.

PeekabooAtTheZoo · 08/09/2022 13:27

And quite sad for the little ones that it’s their first day at school and their great nan has taken a turn.

I note Huw Edwards isn't presenting the BBC News just now. Sadly, I expect he will be on standby.

I am sure any equipment needed will be brought to Balmoral, presumably they won't be doing any intensive procedures, only palliative care.

She didn't give birth in hospital, but I doubt she was deprived of any medical care.
