HOC Speaker announcing the Queen's health has deteriorated.

I'm not really a Royalist, but this is sad news. The fact it has been announced in the HOC makes me think she must be really quite unwell.

She is just such a constant, a link to a world that no longer exists. A person that actually believes in duty to the country.

@spiderlight - that is a wonderful picture. She did appear to have a wicked twinkle in her eye...up to mischief when she could get away with it kind of thing, firm but kind.

That said, I don't think I would have the stamina to have married into The Firm if the opportunity had ever presented itself (which it was highly unlikely as I do not mix in the same circles as the Royal Family).

Spudlet · 08/09/2022 13:43

My grandma is 94… that picture of the queen and Liz Truss made me think of her. She’s so frail now too. It’s all making me very emotional tbh.

Just seen on the news and news reader is wearing black clothing, she must be unwell if all family are going to see her.

Yes I've just noticed this.

Princess Anne has arrived and Edward and Sophie, plus Andrew are en route.

I wonder whether Louis and Charlotte's visit with Catherine last week was a "goodbye" visit perhaps.

IHateWasps · 08/09/2022 13:47

I recommend Borgen. Brilliant drama.

Thank you. I appreciate that. I'll definitely give it a go.

Like I said on another thread I genuinely wish her a peaceful passing, if she is indeed dying and I hope that all of her loved ones get to be there but this insistence by some of the Monarchists on here that we're all going to be utterly devastated and that it's going to have a major impact on our daily lives is completely bizarre to me.

Akite · 08/09/2022 13:47

Looking at old articles on what is planned for when she dies - apparently Charles would make a speech at 6pm on the day and be sworn in at 10am the next morning.

Sorry wasn't clear I was referring to the BBC saying it wasn't an emergency. I also think HM will want to be at home and everything will be done to make it possible

All newsreaders in black but not black tie :(

jibbe · 08/09/2022 13:48

She might have already passed

The only thing that makes me question that is the fact that her children are en route to Balmoral

Ewetoo · 08/09/2022 13:49

What a wonderful woman to welcome Liz Truss, she tied up all the loose ends & hopefully she's not in much pain ....at 96, she is one in a billion..

And quite sad for the little ones that it’s their first day at school and their great nan has taken a turn.

I thought this as well.

Saucery that is beautiful.

Unless it was very sudden & they didn't have time to make it...

NoYouSirName · 08/09/2022 13:50

I was thinking that too. the announcement might be buying time before the announcement is made.

georgarina · 08/09/2022 13:50

I've always thought she was an inspirational person. Took her duty and responsibility extremely seriously and never complained. I hope she can be happy and at peace.

Yes. Me too.

MiniCooperLover · 08/09/2022 13:51

I find it odd that I read a report where they said 'they were all travelling up in various cars, etc'. Don't they have access to planes, helicopters to do it quicker?

Caminante · 08/09/2022 13:51

@Ewetoo true

I can't contemplate this. Obviously nobody is immortal but the Queen has seemed so permanent.

Jesus christ.. she’s just a human being

Ihearticecream · 08/09/2022 13:52

I’m in tears here 😢
The fact her family are travelling to see her. I can’t comprehend our country without her

MrsRobinsonsHandprints · 08/09/2022 13:53

Mrsjayy · 08/09/2022 13:35

It's probably some sort of protocol to make "us" ready. I think it would be worse if we got the newsflash.

Preparing others 'till the end.

The saying 'They don't make them like they used to' is so apt here.

Oh heck, they’ve rolled out Hugh, though I think he’s in Navy rather than black at the moment.

Caminante · 08/09/2022 13:54

Ewetoo · 08/09/2022 13:35

This is very sad news. She met Liz Truss & welcomed the new primister, such a professional at 96...she can rest now, her job is done. I'm in tears typing this, she has done so much for the UK & is clearly deteriorating quickly

How sad that her last official duty was meeting Liz Truss 😂

Poor Queenie, I hope she's feeling comfortable and loved.

Huw Edwards has now turned up on BBC 1 with a dark (black?) tie on.

What does a black tie mean?
