I'm not really a Royalist, but this is sad news. The fact it has been announced in the HOC makes me think she must be really quite unwell.

She is just such a constant, a link to a world that no longer exists. A person that actually believes in duty to the country.

Whilst it will be a huge thing for the country, real life will, and should, go on for the general public.

Parties will still happen, people will still fly away in holiday, nights out will be taking place, etc.

Dd is flying abroad tomorrow morning for a holiday and we have no expectation that the flight nor the holiday will be disrupted as a result of the queen dying.

You can look and see and compare it to all the others that are red.

The others may well have visited privately beforehand in recent days. Obviously due to living overseas and only recently being in the country H and M may not have.

Harry will become the son of a king. Whilst the other grandchild may be equally (or more) as close or loving of their grandmother their place in the royal family isn't as close.

Others may well be travelling but just not mentioned in the media as yet.

No one outside of the royal circles knows what's really going on or what has happened, no matter how many 'contacts' they claim to have.

Edward and his family were pictured up in Balmoral just a couple of weeks ago according to Tatler.

I feel sadder than I thought I would. It really is the end of an era. Hearing Huw Edwards referring to "The King" is very strange.

I honestly felt like I was caught in some kind of alternative world the first time Huw said 'The King'. It was very strange indeed.

The title changes are going to throw me. As Charles and Camilla become King and Queen Consort, William and Catherine are now Duke and Duchess of Cornwall. They will not become Prince and Princess of Wales until the King officially bestows the title and there is an investiture.

I agree re ‘The King’. It’s sort of meaningless, whereas ‘The Queen’ stood for so many things, whether you agreed with having a monarchy or not. There’s no back history to it iyswim, not for most of the people alive today.

@2022newnamenewme the broadcast reported she passed early this afternoon so it’s possible people did know earlier today.

It’s been confirmed that he will be King Charles III.
