If I tell you some podcasts I've liked, could anyone recommend more that are similar please?

I love podcasts but only of a certain genre. The criteria is:

  • a true story
  • that builds over the episodes rather than one story each episode
  • not too grisly
  • and that preferably reaches a conclusion (have listened to a few mystery type ones recently that are just frustrating because there's just endless speculation and no answers)

Some I have really liked are:

  • last man standing
  • I am not a monster
  • the fake heiress
  • the dropout
  • dr death
  • flight 149
  • Tiffany Dover is dead
  • wind of change.

Does anyone have any suggestions that fit the above please?

It’s been mentioned in passing before but I listen to a lot of these - and Down the Hill really stayed with me.

Yes absolutely! Just making me feel quite emotional thinking about it again.

For those who have suggested true crime podcasts, which ones have a conclusion? I'm listening to the lady vanishes but knowing there's no conclusion is irking me.

I'm like this, I only like solved crimes or mysteries

I'm on a Facebook group for true crime pods and this is a frequently asked question. There are many that generate chat that aren't solved because people like to play amateur detective. There are lots of podcasts that are about convicted killers so that's another way to go about it; google podcasts featuring x killer for example.

tobee · 20/08/2022 23:24

Scanning the podcasts mentioned above both The Dating Game Killer and The Thing About Pam are solved. Oh and Man in the Window.

Some are going through court at the moment or about to do so I think. The Teacher's Pet and Your Own Backyard if I remember correctly. Cold Season 1 is all but solved. Lots of the one episode per case stories are solved for eg Seeing Red, Redhanded and Lady Justice.

Some are cases where there's more of a mystery than others; people missing, bodies unidentified etc so not just whodunnit being resolved or not.

Not sure if i mentioned it in my last comment but Swindled is great. Also Rusty Hinges although that has now ended.

Twinklesun · 24/08/2022 23:19

Doesn't meet all your requirements but ...Bbc world service- 15 minutes to the moon (s1,s2). Has a definite ending!! I've got lots of admiration for Kevin who wrote the podcast.

WildFlowerBees · 25/08/2022 13:30

Finished in the Dark, so so sad. On to the next!

Cherryana · 25/08/2022 13:42

So I liked all the podcasts you have listened too so here are a few out of genre that you may like too -
Uncanny - spooky real life mysteries
Even The Rich - they follow a story over 4 episodes like Marylin Monroe, at the moment it’s Will Smith
Dying for Sex - warning very blue and very sad
This American Life - The usual format is three or four ‘essays’ on a subject

AtillatheHun · 04/09/2022 11:59

Hi podcasters - I just listened to thei first 45 seconds of a recommended podcast and stupidly closed the app and now can’t find what it was! (No lat listened function ffs). It’s a US murder of a woman (aren’t they all) with a warning at the start they it happened over the course of 49 years and a lot of the people questioned were found to be innocent. Actual story begins with a guy talking about a drug run the Mexico.

any ideas???

Just coming back to this thread where I received so many brilliant recommendations and have had hours of interesting listening (thank you!) to add a recommendation for Bed of Lies which I have just finished. The second series is an amazing and shocking investigation into the use of factor 8 for haemophiliacs and the resulting blood scandals. Really good journalism and well worth a listen.

There's a new one on BBC sounds that I've just started called Obscene: the Dublin scandal. It's really good so far and narrated by the lovely Adrian Dunbar (aka Ted Hastings from Line of Duty).

When do you listen to your podcasts?

I mostly
Listen on walks.

If I listen before bed I only last a few minutes.

CaveMum · 08/10/2022 07:02

@christmas2022 I listen mostly when I go for a run (3 times a week for 45 mins), and when I do the school run on foot (2 times a week).

I often put something like Newscast on while I get ready for bed as it’s only about 30 mins.
