If I tell you some podcasts I've liked, could anyone recommend more that are similar please?

I love podcasts but only of a certain genre. The criteria is:

  • a true story
  • that builds over the episodes rather than one story each episode
  • not too grisly
  • and that preferably reaches a conclusion (have listened to a few mystery type ones recently that are just frustrating because there's just endless speculation and no answers)

Some I have really liked are:

  • last man standing
  • I am not a monster
  • the fake heiress
  • the dropout
  • dr death
  • flight 149
  • Tiffany Dover is dead
  • wind of change.

Does anyone have any suggestions that fit the above please?

BBC sounds for:
Paradise
The Story of AIDS
Where is George Gibney (TW - sexual abuse of young swimmers by their coach)
The Coming Storm

Apple Podcasts:
Bed of Lies (the Telegraph) - Series one about undercover police ops infiltrating activist groups in the 80s and onwards. Season two is about how haemophiliacs were infected with HIV via contaminated Factor 8. Both series excellent investigative journalism.

Lots of great recommendations here, I'm addicted to podcasts so taking notes!

As mentioned by a pp, Casefile (which is overall brilliant) has some multi-part episodes - Golden State Killer, Silk Road, Jonestown. All amazing well researched and delivered.

Cold - Susan Powell case

Hunting Warhead - this is about child abuse though, and not easy to stomach

Recently started listening to Father Wants us Dead which is very good

On BBC Sounds I've enjoyed Bad People, Uncanny (both different subjects every episode though) and Fake Psychic is pretty good

On Spotify I really liked Liar Liar, multi-part about Melissa Caddick who swindled millions from her family and friends. Also My Sister's Secrets

Currently binge listening to Sinisterhood which I absolutely love. Lots of single subject episodes which might not be what you're looking for.

The Next Call with David Ridgen is a Canadian podcast about the missing and murdered. The host is fantastic. He’s one of the best I’ve ever listened to because he’s so thorough and captivating yet gentle and personable. You can really get immersed in his stories.

Another Canadian journalist is Connie Walker and her Stolen podcasts are excellent. One is called Finding Cleo and another is called The Search for Jermain. She’s covers crimes against Canada’s First Nations women and it is an eye opener. Captivating.

No strings attached is a series about a man who tried to murder his wife by tampering with her parachute. Brilliantly presented and really intriguing!

TheWeeDonkey · 24/07/2022 19:56

This is a really fast moving thread and some great recommendations.

Has anyone mentioned Slow Burn? That's had some really interesting series.

I like Criminal and Real Crime Profile is a really interesting podcast.

Bear Brook

HailMary1988 · 24/07/2022 20:03

This thread has so many great sounding recommendations that I hadn't heard of before.

I'll second Bear Brook as a good choice. True crime with a conclusion. Sad story, but the presenter handles it well.

I'm watching the Thing About Pam at the moment and plan to listen to the podcast after I finish.

Ontoawinner · 24/07/2022 20:09

Beaverbrook is one of the best podcasts I have ever listened to.

Hunting Warhead is also fascinating but it does make for some tricky listening at points due to the subject of the crime.

Both were so interesting because of the investigative nature/advances that made the conclusion possible.

WitchWithoutChips · 24/07/2022 20:10

Surprised no-one has mentioned the Intrigue series on BBC sounds. They have all been fascinating. The Ratline is about Nazis escaping Europe after WWII, Tunnel 29 is about a tunnel under the Berlin Wall, and Mayday is about James Le Mesurier and the White Helmets. Each series is approx ten eps.

Ontoawinner · 24/07/2022 20:11

Apologies, that should have said Bear Brook.

1ittlegreen · 24/07/2022 20:17

I'm listening to The Good ship Brewdog atm on BBC and that's quite interest. Also love American Greed, prefer to listen to podcasts about people failing than gore etc! We Crashed is also good about the fall of We Work.

waltzingparrot · 24/07/2022 20:40

Tunnel 29 was really interesting

ShirleyJackson · 24/07/2022 20:50

Placemarking - some great suggestions here.

I’ve really enjoyed The Teacher’s Pet and Sweet Bobby.

HeyMicky · 24/07/2022 20:56

Slow burn - there are 7 series now
