If I tell you some podcasts I've liked, could anyone recommend more that are similar please?

I love podcasts but only of a certain genre. The criteria is:

  • a true story
  • that builds over the episodes rather than one story each episode
  • not too grisly
  • and that preferably reaches a conclusion (have listened to a few mystery type ones recently that are just frustrating because there's just endless speculation and no answers)

Some I have really liked are:

  • last man standing
  • I am not a monster
  • the fake heiress
  • the dropout
  • dr death
  • flight 149
  • Tiffany Dover is dead
  • wind of change.

Does anyone have any suggestions that fit the above please?

The shrink next door.

Missing crypto queen.

Root of evil (if you can stomach it) it's about the murderer of the Black Dahlia.

You Must Remember This is good if you're interested in film stars.

Casefiles and Generation Why are really good true crime podcasts.

Fall of civilisations is amazing!!

Another vote for Sweet Bobby!

Who the hell is Hamish?
The Teachers Pet
Welcome to your fantasy
Someone knows something
Missing and Murdered: Finding Cleo (all the seasons of this are incredible, I learned so much about the sad history of indigenous people in Canada - not gory)
Escaping NXIVM
Dear Franklin Jones

I love true story/documentary podcasts. I second (third) British Scandal, I love Short History Of and Real Dictators and I'm currently listening to The Bomb on BBC Sounds

Another vote for S Town and British Scandal.

I used to like My Favourite Murder for great stories but just over one episode, however it became VERY indulgent of the preamble chat and I got a bit fed up of it. I'd love to give it another try and see if they've tightened it up any.

HailMary1988 · 24/07/2022 19:29

I think I have quite similar taste to you and I'm loving the recommendations.

I loved -
In the Dark - Season 2 - Curtis Flowers. Do not google while you are listening to it. It fulfills all your criteria and left me absolutely shocked at certain aspects of the American justice system. Like a lot of people my first podcast was Serial. I thought Serial was good, but this is even better.

On BBC Sounds - End of Days - looks at the Waco seige and how the cult leader, David Koresh, manipulated those around him. I hadn't realised how many people from the UK died in the seige. There are loads of interviews with key people and their stories are so interesting and sensitively explored. It's brilliant storytelling and really captivating.

chouxpetitfilous · 24/07/2022 19:30

Fake heiress.

Londonderry34 · 24/07/2022 19:31

Agree West Cork but hope it reaches a conclusion soon.

MarmiteyCrumpets · 24/07/2022 19:32

Murdaugh Murders

Parricide Podcast

Casefile has some multi-episode series e.g. their Jonestown series, which was excellent.

BruisedSkies · 24/07/2022 19:33

Missing Crypto Queen.
chameleon.

TheLoftHatch · 24/07/2022 19:35

Something was wrong. By far the best podcast series I've ever listened to. There's about 13 seasons but the first two seasons were really gripping. Without offering any spoilers, it's about women who get into relationships with 'perfect men' but yeah...the title tells you that nothing is perfect.

I've gone of MFM too which is a shame because that was what got me into podcasts in the first place.

I like Redhanded and Let's Go To Court.

JohannSebastianBach · 24/07/2022 19:39

The Strange Death of Innes Ewart
Gangster about Paul Massey (Salford's Mr Big)
Manhunt Finding Kevin Parle
All on BBC sounds

SausagePourHomme · 24/07/2022 19:39

I tried to like My Favourite Murder. I like Karen and Georgia's chat. I just can't stand the monetising, merch etc when what they are making money off is murders of women and children. and the live shows that are all WOO!! and laughter.

Welcome to Your Fantasy, about the Chippendales, fascinating and murky.

CaveMum · 24/07/2022 19:44

Re: West Cork, I know I already mentioned the podcast above but I really recommend The Crime Analyst episodes around Sophie’s murder and Laura’s thoughts on the way the case was handled and her interpretation of the crime. She brings in her pal Jim Clemente (ex-FBI profiler) from Real Crime Profile to get his take on the profile of the murderer and how that fits with the key suspect.

Fascinating stuff and will make you incredibly angry about how crimes against women are investigated.

VittysCardigan · 24/07/2022 19:45

There's something about Miriam
Twin Flames

Another one I enjoy is Cautionary Tales

VittysCardigan · 24/07/2022 19:47

I've just listened to a series on BBC sounds, Unreal: a critical history of reality television
