If I tell you some podcasts I've liked, could anyone recommend more that are similar please?

I love podcasts but only of a certain genre. The criteria is:

  • a true story
  • that builds over the episodes rather than one story each episode
  • not too grisly
  • and that preferably reaches a conclusion (have listened to a few mystery type ones recently that are just frustrating because there's just endless speculation and no answers)

Some I have really liked are:

  • last man standing
  • I am not a monster
  • the fake heiress
  • the dropout
  • dr death
  • flight 149
  • Tiffany Dover is dead
  • wind of change.

Does anyone have any suggestions that fit the above please?

The Betrayal

PriamFarrl · 24/07/2022 17:10

The Lazarus Heist and The Coming Storm. Both BBC sounds.

Thanks for the quick replies. Those three are all perfect. So perfect I've already listened to (and enjoyed!) them

The Lazarus Heist and The Coming Storm. Both BBC sounds.

Agree with these, they were both great.

I’d add The Missing Cryptoqueen and the new “Boris” podcast, both on BBC Sounds, plus my favourite You’re Dead To Me which is history told with comedy.

If you’re a fan of The West Wing there’s a great episode by episode podcast called The West Wing Weekly which is a few years old.

Also if you liked Scrubs I’d recommend Fake Doctors Real Friends which is again an episode by episode podcast with Zach Brad and Donald Faison. They started it in lockdown so are still going.

I also listen to Parenting Hell, Invisible Women and, if you like true crime, I highly recommend Real Crime Profile and The Crime Analyst. They are not gratuitous and are victim focussed so spend more time talking about the victims rather than the perpetrators.

For film buffs, Simon Mayo and Mark Kermode’s new podcast “Kermode & Mayo’s Take” is very good.

Thanks @CaveMum Some interesting recommendations but perhaps not quite what I'm looking for. I don't like podcasts that are discursive and commenting on issues. I'm really looking for documentary style story telling that builds over the episodes. But might be a great recommendation for others and I appreciate you taking time to reply.

Have you done Serial? And s-town?

SausagePourHomme · 24/07/2022 17:49

Also sweet bobby

NoSquirrels · 24/07/2022 17:50

I mean Serial is the classic podcast you’re describing - but I assume you’ve listened to that?

NoSquirrels · 24/07/2022 17:51

West Cork is excellent, but doesn’t reach a conclusion so be prepared for that.

Monkeytapper · 24/07/2022 17:52

Yes, Sweet Bobby was very interesting

NoSquirrels · 24/07/2022 17:53

Trojan Horse Scandal also excellent but no conclusion per se.

pippinsleftleg · 24/07/2022 17:53

The Lady Vanishes - it’s currently happening in real time as the case is going to court.

pippinsleftleg · 24/07/2022 17:54

Agree with Serial - it’s the one that got me into this type of podcast.

user1477249785 · 24/07/2022 17:56

Thanks all. Yes I've listened to serial and agree it's brilliant. Going to look up to others now!

But different as more factual but the post office scandal and also Putin (how he got to where he is now) is really interesting as well. All on BBC sounds.

AtomicBlondeRose · 24/07/2022 17:58

Another vote for The Lady Vanishes - doesn’t come to a conclusion but that’s because there’s still new stuff being unearthed and it’s really fascinating (as well as very sad - but the podcast has actually helped unearth stuff that is really helping her daughter come to terms with what happened too so it’s not just voyeuristic).

SomeFuckingWizardry · 24/07/2022 17:59

Another vote for Sweet Bobby & Betrayal and adding Bad Bad Thing!

Simplelobsterhat · 24/07/2022 18:01

British Scandal? Alice Levine and Matt forde. I find it very interesting and easy to listen to, and they have about 3 orv4 episodes per story .

Oh yes, I found the post office scandal one really interesting. Thanks

Keep them coming. I'm reading every post and looking them all up. The lady vanishes looks really promising!

Crime Analyst is another one I’m enjoying.

Dontfuckingsaycheese · 24/07/2022 18:21

Another vote for British Scandal on the Wondery app. It’ll keep you going for a while! Many great stories. I enjoyed the Canoe Man the most 😉

PriamFarrl · 24/07/2022 18:23

Death in Ice Valley
The Nobody Zone.
Criminal - it’s amazing but pick and choose episodes as it is true crime and some can be a difficult listen.

ChagSameachDoreen · 24/07/2022 18:31

My Sweet Bobby.
