"she has a short time to turn it round before a GE and she just isn't capable IMHO"
With Johnson waiting in the wings.

Fat lot of good it would do the Tories to have him back (and the rest of the country). He's not going to change. He's not going to come back for his second go and not have all the same weaknesses. Behave any differently.

BREAKING Boris Johnson will be summoned to give evidence under oath on Partygate 'lies'

Oh I had wondered if Leadsom was just nailed on to be anyone's chancellor Confused

Grin no just my memory failing! (I hope).

I've just checked and Truss's campaign is lead by Williamson. Kwarteng has also been prominent in her campaign. Coffrey and IDS are clearly angling for jobs and I suppose various ERG other members will have been promised ministerial roles. The Cabinet might not look that different.

Hmmm

borntobequiet · 21/07/2022 10:27

I think any candidate for Chancellor (or indeed any high office) should be asked to do a numeracy test. Somehow I’m not filled with confidence when thinking about Leadsom. Of course Priti Dim would have failed dismally. I used to use her as an example in my Functional Maths classes, as people realised they were actually better at Maths than members of the Government, even though they had always thought they were rubbish at it.

Absolutely. But there is a proportion of the party that believes Johnson is a victim in all of this and they'll hanker after him returning (sunlit uplands all over again).

tobee · 21/07/2022 10:31

Johnson is their fatal flaw. Johnson would know all about that as a classicist.

Even now Johnson will be trying to work out how to wriggle out of the partygate questioning.

Notonthestairs · 21/07/2022 10:32

Truss and Sunak are already planning their cabinets

Truss:

Chancellor - Simon Clarke or Kwasi Kwarteng

Foreign sec - James Cleverly or Tom Tugendhat

Home sec - Therese Coffey under consideration

Dorries & Rees-Mogg would both get cabinet roles

Notonthestairs · 21/07/2022 10:33

Sunak potential Cabinet:

Chancellor: Steve Barclay

Home Sec: Dominic Raab

Jeremy Hunt and Sajid Javid likely to return

Oliver Dowden tipped for CDL

Kwarsi "What's in it for me?" Kwarteng

Notonthestairs · 21/07/2022 10:35

Not sure I like the look of either of those Cabinets (but I don't suppose they want my vote!)

Notonthestairs · 21/07/2022 10:37

It's basically playing musical chairs with whoever is already in Cabinet plus Badenoch in a more senior role.

Blossomtoes · 21/07/2022 10:47

Zonder · 21/07/2022 07:46

I don't understand people saying Rishi is best because of the economy. He has messed us all up.

Truss would mess us up more.

DuncinToffee · 21/07/2022 10:49

Musica chairs, exactly. They are not going to apoint anyone more capable then themselves. It still is Johnson's cabinet, same monkeys, just less circus.

Kwarteng

Today we changed the law to allow businesses impacted by strike action to hire skilled, temporary workers to mitigate disruption.

This was a criminal offence. Now it’s an option for business.

We will not let trade unions grind our economy to a halt.

Good luck with finding those skilled workers.

Blossomtoes · 21/07/2022 15:32

Christ, the mountain of shit the next non Tory government will have to clear up just keeps growing.

A bit like the staffing of the Nightingale hospitals which was done by millions of soldiers who just normally spend their time sat around crotching, waiting for something to do, there are eleventy billion workers sat at home knitting just waiting for the opportunity to cross a picket line and drive a train.

FantasticButtocks · 21/07/2022 15:43

The way Johnson was talking at his last PMQs, I got the feeling that somehow he and Truss are, or plan to be, in cahoots. He sounded like this resignation was just a blip, he said 'for now' making it seem like him not being PM or in power is a temporary thing... could it be that she would appoint him in her cabinet (maybe as deputy pm) if she gets in? Or is that ridiculous and outlandish? Or could she be the mouthpiece with him telling her what's what behind the scenes... she's been described as 'biddable' among other things. whoever wins, it continues to be an absolute shitshow!

Blossomtoes · 21/07/2022 15:47

Truss said she wouldn’t have Johnson in her cabinet in front of millions of TV viewers last week. If she thinks going back on that wouldn’t destroy every meagre shred of credibility she has she’s deluded.

She also campaign for remain, but Dorries and JRM tell us she is the most Brexity thing they have ever met.

borntobequiet · 21/07/2022 15:52

Good luck with finding those skilled workers.

Yes, the delusion is strong. I wonder how they manage it? Time for a general strike.

borntobequiet · 21/07/2022 15:55

Truss would stab BJ in the back and roll his body into a ravine without a shred of remorse. She fully believes she’s the Queen Bee. She frightens the wits out of me.
Sunak seems like a pussycat in comparison, so she’ll probably win.

But if Truss wins she ain't going to win the next GE, whereas Sunak's media savvy might save the Tories.
