'I can't imagine Liz Truss wiping the floor with anyone,'

I know! I'm not overly convinced, as we all know as I've 'got the hots for BJ', I'm his 'number 1 fangirl' etc etc and know he was of course the best person for the job as he'd demonstrated brilliantly over the last 2 yrs, however Truss seems quite calm and I imagine she'll easily put Bellowy Ange back in her box.

DuncinToffee · 07/08/2022 16:40

As I have said before, I just want boring politics back. A PMQs with adults would be a nice start.

I can't imagine Liz Truss wiping the floor with anyone, well... unless the ERG tells her exactly what to say.

That supposes anything the ERG say is remotely sensible or penetrating

@JaniieJones Another classic joke, well played.

'Janiie, it's £650 help with the cost of living, it's something but nowhere near enough.'

650 quid for those living on the breadline is a bit more than 'something'.

Inflation is at what 10% or something like that? Fuel bills will be going up 70+%. Some benefit recipients will get much less than £650. If you are on non means tested disability benefits, you get £150. If you are in receipt of Carer's Allowance you get zero. Unless you live in Scotland or Wales. Bloody useless Sturgeon and Drakeford, looking after unpaid carers, eh?

Benefits need to rise by the rate of inflation right now.

@JaniieJones I just wanted you to know how much I had enjoyed your posts this afternoon. You are an awesome comedian.

the80sweregreat · 07/08/2022 16:48

Now who is being horrible Janiine ?
'Bellowey Angela ' ! Ok, she may not be everyone's cup of tea but at least she isn't a Eton toff living off the backs of other people's grace and favours.
Plus she had a job as a carer once , so she probably understands about how the world works more than someone brought up with riches and privilege like some of the Conservative party are.

DuncinToffee · 07/08/2022 16:50

I was going to say playground behaviour from Janiie but that's not true as we wouldn't allow such behaviour from our children.

SueSaid · 07/08/2022 16:53

'Now who is being horrible Janiine ?'Bellowey Angela '

She's called Angela and she bellows. Not in the same league as calling her an addict or saying she wants to undo men's flies is it?

Calm? Did you see how she reacted when Kate Garraway fainted? She dam near jumped out of her skin!

Understandable perhaps for mere mortals but not leadership material.

Truss has no grasp of detail and lacks BJ's shouty skills, Rayner will eat her alive.

Truss could have done her Cheese speech at the Edinburgh Fringe, comedy gold, this is perhaps her best chance to win over the 'commons... Comedy.

SueSaid · 07/08/2022 16:55

'Calm? Did you see how she reacted when Kate Garraway fainted? She dam near jumped out of her skin!'

Kate McCann. She was shocked as anyone would be seeing someone collapse in front of them, kept calm and went to help.

@JaniieJones ran out of arguments months ago, but I do enjoy they keep recycling the same jokes.

DuncinToffee · 07/08/2022 16:58

Jess Robinson who does the Liz Truss act on The Last Leg is performing at the Fringe

Roussette · 07/08/2022 17:05

Has that been said on these threads? If so, I missed that. But she is ridiculous around BJ it has to be said, and her tweets banging on about him currently are hilarious. She's like a jilted lover.
She is desperate for Truss to get in because I imagine that's the only way she'll keep her job.
Shame her Channel 4 axing is going to come to nothing. Truss has already said it won't be happening and if I remember correctly Sunak too.

I think she'd struggle to wipe the floor if you have her a mop and bucket Grin

Wouldn't be the first Prime Minister to fall down on that front.

I would be interested to see someone ask Truss how much a person earning the minimum wage and then various other salaries would gain with the NI change - assuming they keep the new threshold.

And how much the social and environmental levy would give people?

And would she want companies to still offer the warm homes discount to pensioners if she removes the social and environmental levy?

(She may not be aware that 'the green levy' is more complicated as it covers social issues as well)

True but she isn't "anyone" is she? she wishes to lead a nuclear armed country, facing a huge economic crisis.

She turned on Region pay and is now turning on the "tax cuts alone" mantra ... FFS she has put zero thought into anything that comes out of her mouth.. tax cuts and NI reversals make SFA difference to someone on fixed income or a low wage.

Its just a continuation in her role as FS, thinking Rostov was part of Ukraine.

Though TBH changing tack seems to be in her DNA.

She will prove to be a joke PM, so good news for Labour.

AndreaC74 · 07/08/2022 18:08

@cakeorwine She wouldn't have a clue.

'Are you saying that the well known left winger Geoffrey Howe is wrong'

Geoffrey Howe? I'd no idea how was still alive. I can't imagine his opinion is very relevant tbh.

Of course not. He was only Chancellor for four years in Thatcher’s first government. His tenure was characterised by an ambitious programme of radical policies intended to restore the public finances, reduce inflation and liberalise the economy. Obviously he knows nothing about the economy.

cakeorwine · 07/08/2022 18:37

The Thatcher link is interesting.

The late 70s / early 80s were awful times from what I have heard. I think I was cushioned a lot from it. But there were riots, high inflation.

Then the Falklands happened. I don't know how much that helped Thatcher but it did have an impact on how we saw ourselves.

We don't want another Falklands though

Chancellor in a left wing government, no wonder he is attacking a Tory government.

Blossomtoes · 07/08/2022 18:40

The late 70s/early 80s were indeed dreadful. Crazy inflation. The Falklands saved Thatcher, the smart money was on her losing the next election but the wave of patriotism she released handed her victory. Don’t be surprised if Truss decides to send troops to the Ukraine.

Thanks to defence cuts, UK hasn't really got much to send anywhere.

Even now, non urgent foreign aid budget spending halted as they are using FA to finance the help given to Ukraine.

Remarkable really.
