"Politics isn't a profession any sensible person would enter at the moment. Twitter hate... death threats etc etc. It's just not worth it"

Yes the vitriol is grim. Full of egotistical backstabbers (I'm looking at you
Ellwood). Then there's the trolls on twitter ripping Dorries apart calling her an 'alkie' and posters on here saying she 'wanted BJ to undo his flies'. There's a level of criticism that is really vile. Yes I call Starmer Keith and his deputy Angie, because they are a comedy pair that deserve a bit of mockery. I wouldn't suggest she had an addiction though or make up stories about Keith leaving his wife 'battling cancer' as others have said on here about BJ.

I'm impressed that Truss seems able to brush it off tbh.

If Dorries isnt drunk in some of the videos of her, then her behaviour is even more concerning that I first thought. We should leave her alone to seek the medical help she needs in peace.

'Janiie, it's £650 help with the cost of living, it's something but nowhere near enough.'

650 quid for those living on the breadline is a bit more than 'something'.

DuncinToffee · 07/08/2022 15:13

Latest twist

"Conservatives MPs want to do a deal with Boris Johnson for him to quit parliament and in return axe the inquiry into whether he misled them over Partygate"

Could this be Johnson's final stitch-up? Walk away to avoid being investigated and further shamed?

As far as I can tell Sunak is proud of removing money from deprived areas to give it to places like Tunbridge Wells and Truss wants to cut taxes for the rich, so they are insulated from the effect of the recession that the government she has been a part of for years has made far worse than it ought to be.

Are you saying that the rich are those in need?

What is the point in silly comments like this? I don't like either of them. I really don't think anybody has the faintest clue how to solve this financial crisis. But what I know about economic strategy could be written on a postage stamp.

@JaniieJones Are you saying that the well known left winger Geoffrey Howe is wrong when a short while ago on the radio he said that the governments response to the energy crisis is inadequate?

I quite agree @derxa . It is most silly to suggest that anyone who has been in Johnsons government would come up with policies to help those in need, having busily made sure they got poorer while the rich got richer for the last 12 years.

Some of those cat's bum faced backbenchers are scared he's going to end up Foreign Secretary aren't they Grin. Quick quick call Brand or Cummings let's see what they can leak/make up today!

I said 'anybody' not just the current Tory shower. You're just tilting at windmills.

His last stint a FS was such a success, wasn't it?

They don't want scrutiny after they have defended them for so long.

Notonthestairs · 07/08/2022 15:23

"650 quid for those living on the breadline is a bit more than 'something'."

That rather depends on the size of their bills doesn't it?

The paint job on the Government's plane cost £900000 (it cost £10 million to convert it). £2.6 million spent on the press room. Are they still spending £200 million (from defence money, not trade) on a national flagship? Vanity projects.

Johnson & Zahawi have clocked off at a point when they should be working for everyone. I don't remember May behaving this way.

SueSaid · 07/08/2022 15:24

'Are you saying that the well known left winger Geoffrey Howe is wrong'

Geoffrey Howe? I'd no idea how was still alive. I can't imagine his opinion is very relevant tbh.

Roussette · 07/08/2022 15:25

You're a bit obsessed by D Cummings and Paul Brand.

His own party members got rid of him.
He made a hash of Foreign Sec last time partying with ex KGB, I doubt they'll let that happen again

No. Explain it in a concise form.

Oliver Dowden doesn't agree wit Truss's NI cut

Liz Truss' NI tax cut not fit to deal with the scale of the challenge we are facing.

Oliver Dowden - "The national insurance tax cut will benefit someone, working full-time on the national living wage, by less than £60, but it will benefit the new Prime minister by £1,800.. "

So you don't know that no one "has the faintest clue how to solve this financial crisis."

Would you rather have a Prime Minister who tried to solve the problem or one who was spouting about policies that will make it worse?

Dowden is confused.

The purpose of the NI cut is to make those who won't be that badly affected, have a little more money so they can keep taking DD to pony club and go out for lunch at the golf club.

The challenge that Liz Truss is facing is trying to become PM, nothing else matters. Surely we have learnt from Boris that the important thing is to be able to say one has been PM, not to actually do anything constructive with the role.

DuncinToffee · 07/08/2022 15:45

With an extra £1,800, she will at least be able to afford a salad bowl.

It's my guilty Wednesday night catch up because ds doesn't train Wednesdays Grin

I agree with above poster that Rayners Vs Truss would be good viewing!

itsgettingweird · 07/08/2022 15:51

Sadly I don't have any heroes. Maybe Eilish McColgan at the moment😂

She was phenomenal!

itsgettingweird · 07/08/2022 15:58

PMQs will definitely change dependent on who is up next.

Starmers forensic mind means he is quick to pick up deviation if fact and "lies" which he can't directly call out.

But Johnson couldn't answer a direct question and could only parrot learned phrases (which were mostly incorrect anyway!) so nothing ever got sorted. It was like a basement theatre pantomime.

Starmer and Sunak would be hood because they are both very intelligent men and whilst they are polar opposite in view Sunak can at least explain his decisions clearly and give Starmer something of substance to actually challenge.

Starmer Vs Truss could either be static (she'll keep saying she'll come back to that and so he'll ask the same questions each week until situation is solved) or she'll U turn at PMQs considering the speed of the umpteen dozen U turns she's already done on her policies before even getting elected!

SueSaid · 07/08/2022 16:19

'I agree with above poster that Rayners Vs Truss would be good viewing!'

Yes it would be. Mordaunt absolutely wiped for floor with Rayner in the HOC so I'd imagine it would be a similar situation with Truss v Ms Rayner

Roussette · 07/08/2022 16:29

I can't imagine Liz Truss wiping the floor with anyone, well... unless the ERG tells her exactly what to say.
