Geidtgate, the case of the missing resignation letter.

And what is the commercially sensitive matter in the national interest?

I suspect many people don't know that the Council of Europe is distinct from the EU and that the UK was one of the founding members of the European Court of Human Rights, designed to protect human rights, democracy and the rule of law in Europe

if the wasteground of the DM comments section is anything to go by people absolutely don’t understand that the ECHR is separate to the EU.

All the tories have to do is nothing to dispel that notion and they’ll have public backing to break away.

ClaudineClare · 16/06/2022 08:37

Brilliant!

ClaudineClare · 16/06/2022 08:38

That video is brilliant, I meant.

DuncinToffee · 16/06/2022 08:28

This is a great sketch with a fabulous cast….

illustrates brilliantly BJ’s arrogance and hypocrisy in thinking he can do better than his hero Winston Churchill. It never fails to be gobsmacking that for a man who invokes WWII so much he’s so busy actively shitting on what was achieved.

prettybird · 16/06/2022 09:24

What's really Shock about that video is that it was first uploaded six - SIX - years ago ShockSadAngry

This Government learns nothing Angry - but there again, it doesn't want to Angry

Cornettoninja · 16/06/2022 09:32

Really Prettybird?

None of us can plead ignorance about what’s happening now.

DuncinToffee · 16/06/2022 09:35

It's also 6 years today since Jo Cox was murdered Sad

@Cornettoninja - it might even have been longer ago than that but here's a link to the Guardian which had uploaded the video 6 years ago.

Poor Jo Cox, her poor kids and family. [Flowers]

We do really need a public campaign to make sure people understand the difference between ECHR and EU. Tories will exploit the gap in understanding and engagement. Is it something some of the rejoin campaigns could look at? www.stayeuropean.org/rejoin/
Bloody hope that the Lib Dems and Labour realise what a massive threat this is to democracy and they actually campaign loudly for our protections.

DowningStreetParty · 16/06/2022 09:52

I’ll try that again

There will be an urgent question in the Commons today on Lord Geidt’s resignation. He is said to be v frustrated that No10 won’t publish the letter he wrote outlining in some detail why he quit. It will have been an uncomfortable read for the PM…

I am still shocked by Jo Cox's murder - and that of David Amess. Both had so much more to give. Six years on I imagine that MPs are more at risk than ever. I do blame (in part) the deliberate use of wedge politics.

Angela Rayner has an UQ later today on the topic of the Lord Geidt's missing resignation letter.

Notonthestairs · 16/06/2022 10:31

X post!

Notonthestairs · 16/06/2022 10:38

BBC reporting that Geidt letter will be published shortly.

the80sweregreat · 16/06/2022 11:49

Robert Peston on Twitter has a few extracts of this letter up now if you follow him on there.

Surely it's up to Suella to advise on legalities? - not the Independent Advisor on Ethics and Standards Confused

Or is she not up to the job? Wink

Why does he have to be frustrated? Surely he could just publish his own letter? Jesse Norman managed it.
