Is this the one when some Tory MPs grow a spine and put enough letters in that they have a confidence vote?

birthdaytou · 01/06/2022 20:25

Can’t stand Boris, he’s dreadful. It pisses me off that this is the thing that the British public get upset about. Honestly don’t give a shit about party gate, was mode upset about how this government handled Afghanistan or all the Brexit bollcoks or sending migrants to Rwanda. This government are an absolute shit show.

Thanks Duncin!

I think it is still some way short of the 54 for a confidence vote. Better have my plan to ensure I cannot quickly be identified as being from these islands when I go on holiday to France.

Notonthestairs · 01/06/2022 20:35

birthday - on the face of it Partygate could be dismissed.

However, it has served to highlight the lengths Johnson will go to mislead the public & the barefaced lies he's willing to tell to Parliament - at a time where the vast majority of the country were just trying to do their best in pretty awful circumstances.

It's also shine a light on Cabinet failings and that a large section of MPs won't stand against poor leadership.

And it's part of a long list of corrupt dealings which diminishes us all.

itsgettingweird · 01/06/2022 20:42

Agree with Notonthestairs - it's what partygate represents rather than the actual partygate.

And the fact that they constantly tell the nation everyone wants them to move on and bet on with the job. The letters of no confidence and ratings show otherwise.

We all await Graham Brady's cheeky little face popping up on our tellies!

Cheeky little face. 😂😂

Piggywaspushed · 01/06/2022 21:10

I am reading Broken Heartlands. Interesting lack of foresight form Seb Payne in there as to what might happen to The Red Wall if the PM proved to be an entitled, partying , lying, venal tosspot...

Can't wait. Any predictions? I reckon next Tuesday (optimistic). As for BJ, the man's a lying bag of lies.

Notonthestairs · 01/06/2022 21:24

"It would do terrible damage to the Tory reputation for competence.”

The Conservatives would look “very much like the party of chaos” if there’s a vote of no confidence in Boris Johnson, Fraser Nelson, editor of The Spectator, tells @krishgm

Ummm. Does someone want to have a word with Fraser and tell him that ship has sailed?

It sailed so long ago it might need to come back into port soon for a resupply of lies.

HotPenguin · 01/06/2022 21:29

I think partygate is really awful and should not be minimised. Those in power thought the rules were only for the little people. They lied over and over, and put zero value on honesty.

You might disagree with eg the policy on sending refugees to Rwanda, but at least that's out in the open and voters have the chance to agree or disagree. With partygate, they made a load of rules for the plebs but didn't bother following them themselves. I'm sure they are acting in exactly the same way over tax rules and other laws too.

ClaudineClare · 01/06/2022 21:50

Thanks @DuncinToffee

Let's see what unfolds next week once the Jubilee shenanigans are over...

ilovesooty · 01/06/2022 22:00

Thanks for the new thread.

Peregrina · 01/06/2022 22:17

The Rwanda policy might be out in the open, but would it have been if we had not had the Windrush scandal? I would imagine not.

birthdaytou · 01/06/2022 22:22

@Notonthestairs completely, I feel like this has been evident for quite some time, he’s proven to be a liar time and time again. It’s frustrating that partygate is what has got people so upset. I really hope he goes because of it though so understand the need for momentum behind it.

Janey188 · 01/06/2022 22:26

He's attractive, don't know who he really is though 🤣🤣

Roussette · 01/06/2022 22:32

Who's attractive? 😮

Agree hotpenguin it was the creeping and nasty fudging and lying that incensed me. We're not stupid

Thanks *Duncin"

Peregrina · 01/06/2022 22:34

Do you really think he's attractive? I think he's a fat slob myself. Now physical unattractiveness can be compensated for by a charming personality, but we didn't see any evidence of that.

Partygate got people upset because it's something that people can relate to. We can't really relate to the £37 billion wasted on the failed track and trace, it's just too abstract.

Nat6999 · 01/06/2022 22:34

According to Twitter there have been at least 54 letters handed in to the 1922 committee, I wonder if they will hold back any announcements until after the by elections next week because knowing BJ he will push for the vote of confidence straight away & by waiting if they don't win either one may give MP's the push to vote him out. The latest opinion polls show if there was an election now Labour would win with a similar number of seats that the Tories have now.

Peregrina · 01/06/2022 22:37

The by elections aren't until 23rd June. That's three weeks away or an eternity, if a week is a long time in politics!

Notonthestairs · 01/06/2022 22:50

As I understand it IF the letters are in then it moves immediately (post recess).
They don't faff.

Zonder · 02/06/2022 00:00

Surely there must be enough letters by now.

derxa · 02/06/2022 06:57

Thanks for the new thread. BJ's finished now
