BREAKING: ECHR has stopped two more people being sent to Rwanda.

Two more have had their tickets cancelled.

We are down to one on the flight.

That is great news. Surely even Patel et al would not be stupid/evil enough to send just one person?

Depressingly, Rwanda threads are also overlapping. I need to go somewhere for a bit of a cry in the corner.

Someone’s already described me as “unhinged”. I’m clearly… on form? 😁

Just take enormous solace in the fact that people who work with asylum seekers and understand the system are the ones against this nightmare, and the only ones for it are ones who’ve never spoken to an asylum seeker in their life and don’t understand how the asylum system works. As evidenced on those threads, and by a large number of Conservative politicians. Ipswich MP did a Dorries-level self own, will try to dig it up later if I don’t fall asleep.

(I very rarely post but long time reader/lurker and appreciate all the info and views).

DuncinToffee · 14/06/2022 22:09

Yes!

CONFIRMED - the flight will not be taking off after all asylum seekers were pulled off

Librarians, Tom Hunt by any chance?

Delighted to hear that the flight is not going.

Can we not just fill the plane with a whole bunch of Tories and send it anyway?

ClaudineClare · 14/06/2022 22:17

Thank god.

Patel would send it empty just to be able to say that it had gone.

ancientgran · 14/06/2022 22:27

Well Patel thinks it is such a lovely place so maybe she should go. Shame to send an empty plane.

newnamethanks · 14/06/2022 22:46

Applause ancientgran, Patel was born in Africa, she should set an example to all and be the first to get on that plane. Where she leads, others will surely follow. If she takes her Dad he can set up a UKIP for Africa party to make him feel completely at home.

BewareTheLibrarians · 14/06/2022 22:56

Aaah thank god. I can’t imagine how they must all be feeling. I hope they’re not going to keep them in detention any longer, but given the shittery we’ve seen so far…

Notonthestairs · 14/06/2022 22:58

I honestly don't think they ever expected the flight to leave (although bonus points if it had). The policy is simply another method to attack ECHR.

I think the Britannia Unchained Mob and their various toadies will be delighted.

British bill of rights incoming - will probably have a bulldog watermark and will be printed in France. 🙄

WaitroseWoman · 14/06/2022 23:11

Delighted to hear that the flight will not be leaving. Nobody left on it!

She-devil Priti Patel is "very surprised" at the intervention by the ECHR, which reminded me of He-devil Boris Johnson being "very surprised" to get a Partygate Fixed Penalty Notice. It is a shame for both of them, isn't it?

Yep, the gammonati are howling about giving up all of our human rights in order to get rid of a few brown people.

DuncinToffee · 14/06/2022 23:23

Just like their masters, Russia the only country to leave the ECHR

Please.

Priti please.

And Boris could easily exchange all those boos for cheers by getting on that flight.

Just a reminder that the chartered plane to Rwanda had already been paid for tonight. As one Home Office source told me the costs ‘were already sunk’. So whatever your view on the policy that’s half a million quid potentially down the drain.

DuncinToffee · 14/06/2022 23:40

So to blame are:
Woke lefty lawyers
Remainers
Prince Charles
Church of England
ECHR

Feel free to add Smile

That would have bought a few more Free School Meals.

tobee · 15/06/2022 01:17

Presumably the Rwanda plane is just a stay of execution though? I daresay it'll be off soon Sad

Notonthestairs · 15/06/2022 06:50

Here we go...Tory 2019 intake desperate to ditch the ECHR.

"Scale of unrest on Tory WhatsApp from serving members of the government payroll will seriously worry No 10 and the Home Office tonight

Here’s Cabinet Office PPS Brendan Clarke-Smith (Bassetlaw) writing to the 70-strong Common Sense Group: “This is effectively a war now.”

twitter.com/patrickkmaguire/status/1536840268074426368?s=21&t=A-Bhc4JckcryQA8kkolh8g

"Common Sense Group" 🙄 They do enjoy making groups don't they?

ClaudineClare · 15/06/2022 06:50

God, the Rwanda thread is vile. Where have all the racists on there come from? I am going to have to not go on it as I will end up getting banned.🤬🤬🤬

ClaudineClare · 15/06/2022 06:58

@Notonthestairs what are you worried about? We don't need any organisation to tell us how to treat people decently. Our government is so kind and compassionate.

Seriously though, what is the legal framework for ditching the ECHR I wonder? You would have hoped that there was some sort of protection for citizens built in to address this sort of scenario-a rogue government wanting out of the ECHR in order to mistreat people.

borntobequiet · 15/06/2022 07:33

They forgot to use the word Research which I thought was mandatory for right wing Tory groupings, to give the impression that they actually know something.

Common Sense Research Group, guys.

DowningStreetParty · 15/06/2022 07:34

Jesus this is monumentally depressing. What an absolutely disgusting Conservative government this is. Amoral, wasteful, populists.
They have always wanted to smash up the Human Rights Act. They will pretend to be ‘very surprised’ when the ECHR stop them doing things that remove people’s human rights. They’re actually delighted with it all, because they needed something tangible to happen to give them a theatrical rallying cry for getting rid of the Human Rights Act.

I don’t think they even bothered with getting the staff to get the detail right on the Rwanda policy on purpose. I think they are quite happy to spunk 120 million of our taxpayers’ cash to pay the Rwandan government for this scheme, let alone the half a mill for the plane last night, because it’s all just a vehicle to help the government claim ‘European interference’ which the Brexiters love to hear to make themselves feel righteous.

That then allows Boris Johnson’s shameful law-breaking government to justify trying to smash up the Human Rights Act which enshrines human rights into UK law. Thereby profiting big business and government over individual peoples’ lives giving all of us little or no legal recourse. And the dangerous idiots who support all this, claim they are ‘taking back control’. Hmm
