Thanks for the new thread. I hope he's out on his arse soon. I do wonder if he'll refuse to leave Number 10 immediately like when he was sacked as foreign secretary but refused to leave official residence for weeks afterwards.

Peregrina · 02/06/2022 08:38

BJ's finished now

It would be nice to think that it was MN which delivered the coup de grâce
but I won't believe it until they are seen walking out of Downing Street.

Notonthestairs · 02/06/2022 08:44

I've been quite amused by Johnson's supporters calling the "rebel" MPs "self-indulgent, narcissistic and contemptuous" in today's Times.

Do they think we forgotten their similarly narcissistic power grabbing manoeuvres against Theresa May?

Do they think they are in a position to lecture anyone about loyalty to party or to country?

Absolute shower the lot of them.

Not having to have meetings with him might be just the anniversary present the Queen is hoping for. Not that she'd ever let on.

Rees Mogg is saying removing Johnson will be exceptional silly and a risk to 'brexit opportunities'

He is an expert in exceptionally silly.

madroid1 · 02/06/2022 09:34

@ancientgran I wondered what their weekly meeting was like when it emerged that people had been drinking, ordering pizza and doing karoke the night before Prince Philip's funeral. I wouldn't like to face any widow after doing that. But facing such a venerable and honourable queen would surely have been daunting to such a poor PM as Boris.

100 times BJ denied breaking any laws

And then there's the deplorable lack of integrity in the Met Police force.

I think the truly frightening aspect of this whole affair is the way it's now clear our 'democracy' and rule of law is a sham

Brexit can't stand on its own merits then? Suspect JRM is getting worried for his investors.

self indulgent, narcissistic and contemptuous sound like rather apt descriptions of the man himself.

Flapjacker48 · 02/06/2022 09:59

The ministers who have their heads up bojos bum are those who will be immediately sacked by a new leader I.e rees-mogg and dorries

Yes - case study in projection.

Another one worried for her job

Priti Patel has told Tory MPs pushing for the Prime Minister to resign to 'forget it'

Which is exactly what people need when they can't pay their energy bills.

Actually come to think of it I don't know why Rees Smug hasn't suggested using his phenomenal common sense that poor people sweep the floor to keep warm rather than hoovering.

Hopefully with good reason

The Prime Minister has attended Trooping the Colour, looking a mess as usual. A man who should be in the Tower for the way he has behaved towards The Queen.

DuncinToffee · 02/06/2022 12:34

I saw this tweet

They showed them briefly on French TV (France 2). Commented on the fact his hair was unkept as per usual and that he had lied to the queen

Yes, very plausible, uhmmmm

Here we are — crates of prosecco arriving at the Cabinet Office this afternoon

UPDATE: Cabinet office say an order was mistakenly placed for delivery to Cabinet Office instead of another non-government address.

Prosecco "being taken offsite and will not be consumed on the premises"

I mean they can't even organise a piss up at 10 Downing St.

Meet ‘Waitrose Woman’ - the southern suburban wealthy ex Tory voter Boris Johnson is intently focused on winning back from the Lib Dems

Latest AT FinancialTimes column on how the Conservatives might do it

Catherine is our typical Waitrose Woman: 48, with two kids at secondary school, living in the Surrey town of Esher. She and her partner work in the City, commuting in a few days a week
^^
She reads the FT Weekend, voted Remain but has mostly accepted Brexit
^^Catherine is naturally Tory inclined but has drifted over to the Liberal Democrats in recent months. Why? Partygate, plus the cost of living crisis, the rising tax burden and a general sense the British state isn’t working very well.

How can the Tories win her back?

#1: putting meat on pledge to cut taxes. Sunak and Johnson will deliver a joint speech on the economy in the coming weeks. It should include a detailed plan on reducing the burden, well beyond the 1p income tax cut in ‘24
#2: Mollify its natural voters on cultural matters. The Tory base adore national institutions — Radio 4, the National Trust — even if some ministers do not. Waitrose Woman is not opposed to reform, but the Conservatives need to emphasise conserving.
#3: The public sector needs a real focus on improvement not just growth. Ministers should be pulling at the nuts and bolts of improving how the state functions. Whether it is the police, the NHS or the courts, Waitrose Woman wants Britain to work better.
#4: Tories need to do much better with levelling up. The plan to tackle regional inequality is talked about in terms of the north, but some of the poorest parts of the land are in the south. It should be a moral mission to equalise opportunity everywhere
#5: A major reshuffle to bring gender equality to the cabinet. The Australian Teals should worry the Tories about a male heavy government.

Junior ministers Gillian Keegan, Penny Mordaunt, Lucy Frazer, Kemi Badenoch and Victoria Atkins should be promoted.
#6: Johnson should reach out to big Remain figures. Jeremy Hunt may be on leadership manoeuvres but offering him deputy PM and Cabinet Office minister would be a clear sign to southern Tories. Ditto bringing Julian Smith back to the Northern Ireland brief
If Johnson faces a confidence vote this month, he should not take any victory as vindication.

The ideas and the talent are available within Tory ranks to reboot the government. This moment of acute political danger is the time to enact serious change.

^^

RedToothBrush · 02/06/2022 15:38

This is basically well off women with kids who voted for Cameron and may have thought that voting for Corbyn would be a disaster. But really have had it now and have gone fuck this shit.

The Tories are shit scared of the LDs. Its actually hilarious.

Waitrose Woman. I know a good number of those... Oh my this is soooo funny. On so many levels.

prettybird · 02/06/2022 15:42

Isn't "Waitrose Woman" the demographic that BJ thought was asking him questions via Justine in the MN interview? - and instead he got his arse kicked Grin

BringBackCoffeeCreams · 02/06/2022 15:48

I think Waitrose Woman will tell BJ and his cronies to FOTTFSOFAWTGTFOSM as she's smarter than the the lot of them put together.

Notonthestairs · 02/06/2022 16:11

I am amused and fucking irritated by that article.

They don't get it do they? Whatever shine Johnson may have had, whatever allowances people made of his shady dealings it's been spent. He's just a liar in a suit.

If they understood he'd have approached the MN interview a lot more seriously.

WW actively wants rid and there's fuck all they can do about it.
