RozHuntleysLeftHand · 31/05/2022 17:52

Just re-listening to Cabin Pressure with 10 yr old DS, who has got really into it, and whenever the theme starts comes up and says "the lemon is in play"!

I'm feeling a bit shit today so was wondering what everyone's favourite episodes are, mine are .....

The one with the orchestra
St Petersburg.... in fact anyone where they get it over on Gordon
Berling Day
The one where they pick up Theresa of Lichtenstein for the first time

But they are all bloody great really aren't they??

I shed tears at Zurich 2 when it was first broadcast 😢. It was the end of an era - we'd listened to every episode at dinner time and it had completely united my family of teens and tweens who didn't really get on with each other.

KingscoteStaff · 17/06/2022 17:03

The moment (where?) in Zurich when Martin is in the middle of a long explanation and says ‘yellow car’ in the middle without taking a breath.

pastaandpesto · 17/06/2022 20:21

I love the scene in Wokingham when Martin's mum is trying not to "be any trouble" and in doing so drives Martin absolutely potty. ("That's the beautiful irony.") My mum has a tendency to that kind of behaviour - instead of getting frustrated I can now just say "mother, I'm going to give you the bloody chipped mug in a minute!" and she recognises what she is doing and we can have a laugh about it.

If anyone asks for an ice cream I sing Arthur's jingle...

"ice cream, ice cream, ice cream, ice cream,
Ice cream, ice cream, ice cream, ice.
Ice cream, ice cream, ice cream, ice cream,
Get your lovely ice cream!"
<breath>
"IIIIIICE CREEEEAM, ICE CREAM....."

Working my way through again via Audible. This evening Qikiqtaruaq and Paris over dinner had me and my Dad (in his 90s) in absolute stitches. I honestly don't think this could ever be beat. It is just glorious.

On to Newcastle tomorrow :)

This thread has it all

www.mumsnet.com/talk/_chat/4577751-red-plane-on-flightradar24-over-manchester

Turn arounds, too much fuel for landing, engines being struck by geese.

All they need is 'smelling smoke in the flight deck', flashing red lights, and broken rear lights

AquaticSewingMachine · 27/06/2022 18:54

Someone already mentioned smelling smoke in the flight deck on the thread!! By about page 2 or 3.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 27/06/2022 19:52

In our house, it’s very common to say goodbye with ‘See you on the flipside of [whatever that person is doing]’ in our best cool relaxed pilot voices.

lugeforlife · 27/06/2022 20:26

Inspired by this I've been re listening. Always used to like Ipswich and Ottery St Mary but actually Verduz is up there for me. The bit with Theresa on the SatCom, the millennium star - you gt a medal for being alive in the year 2000 and most of all Douglas' 'weeeeeelllllllll' after Theresa leaves the cockpit.

Playing European Monarchy Top Trumps and Arthur as a henchman!!

AquaticSewingMachine · 28/06/2022 16:37

I love Teresa. I think in a perverse way the fact that she's a princess (and a very grounded and unpretentious one) is what leaves her free to fall for Martin - she's got nothing to prove, no need for money and is very secure in herself, so she can look past his admittedly rather sad situation and see a genuinely sweet, hardworking man.

totes overthinking this, don't care

CaveMum · 28/06/2022 17:01

Ah, my people!

All the episodes are BRILLIANT!

When all the stuff earlier this year was happening with Big Jet TV my first thought was “Arthur would be a brilliant commentator for this!”

CaveMum · 28/06/2022 17:12

My random claim to fame - I know someone who went to college with JF. She said they used to call him “Funny No More” because he did one amazing student gig when she was a Fresher and then he struggled to replicate it. She said they all thought he’d end up an English teacher but she’s very glad they were proved wrong!

CaveMum · 28/06/2022 17:17

Anyone else get excited about the Six Nations? Not because they like rugby, but because you get to wish everyone Happy Birling Day on social media!

TakeMeToYourLiar · 28/06/2022 17:18

I am BEYOND excited for this. Only one I would trust to have a crack at it without sir TP

TakeMeToYourLiar · 28/06/2022 17:33

I am also tbe happy recipient of a “what fresh hell is this” t shirt. I know it’s Dorothy Parker originally but hoping it will give me some Carolyn resilience

Brilliant 😀

Turns out DH was at school with JF (year above, according to Wikipedia) and HE CAN'T REMEMBER HIM!

I may LTB.

Good god.

I have designed and had printed a 'yellow car' t-shirt for DD's birthday in a couple of weeks. I'll post a photo when she has it - if I do it before she'll probably see the photo on one of the many occasions she nicks my phone...

AmigoDog · 29/06/2022 18:17

oh I love this series so much. Ipswich is probably my favourite. I agree that Boston is harder to listen to. There are a few others where I think the passengers are just a tad too obnoxious, but generally the script is just brilliant and the main characters are wonderful.

AquaticSewingMachine · 30/06/2022 09:21

@AmigoDog I take it you're very friendly, and often found in threes ;)

And don't get first crack at the cheese tray?

comfortablyfrumpy · 27/07/2022 22:47

Bumping this to say I have just re-listened to Zurich. It is utterly, utterly perfect.

Long car journey at the weekend and I have warned the kids there will be CP games :)

I hope that you plan to play words of one sound. And that you still play words of one sound if and when you stop for a drink. The one that is made with a bean. You must not give up and ask for tea 😁

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 28/07/2022 07:42

So, CP games:
Yellow car
Words of one sound
Travelling lemon
People that aren’t evil but have evil names
Brians of Britain
Books that sound more interesting with the final letter omitted
Q & A film double bills
Departure & Arrival rhymes
I came through customs and I had to declare…
Compose your own limerick
People who should have been arch-enemies
Fizz Buzz (have a banana)
Lists - e.g the seven deadly sins

Have I missed any?!?

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 28/07/2022 07:42

Ooh Simon Says
