Just re-listening to Cabin Pressure with 10 yr old DS, who has got really into it, and whenever the theme starts comes up and says "the lemon is in play"!

I'm feeling a bit shit today so was wondering what everyone's favourite episodes are, mine are .....

The one with the orchestra
St Petersburg.... in fact anyone where they get it over on Gordon
Berling Day
The one where they pick up Theresa of Lichtenstein for the first time

But they are all bloody great really aren't they??

Otters!

crj123 · 31/05/2022 18:01

Oh I love this.

Ipswich
Ottery St Mary
Xinjao - fizz! Buzz! 'Ave a banana

LeNil · 31/05/2022 18:02

Whenever I’m feeling under the weather (or hungover) I listen to Cabin pressure. The fizz, buzz, have a banana is a favourite, but you’re right, they’re all brilliant.

My absolute fave is the Q one - can’t spell the full name. Where Martin has to pretend to be French. I had proper tears in my eyes from laughing the first time I heard it. But let’s face it, they’re all pretty damn great!

piratehooker · 31/05/2022 18:04

Is 'all of them' an acceptable answer?

I've been listening to JFSP and Cabin Pressure for so long now I can recite them in my sleep... not sure if that's a shameful admission or a boast! But recently got my other half into listening to CP, and the ones I was most excited for him to hear were;

Douz (which has become his fave)
Edinburgh (Birling Day!)
Limerick
Newcastle (Mainly for the entrance of Herc)
Rotterdam
Vaduz
Zurich

To be fair, I could have written that list with every episode title in it though!

WhoppingBigBackside · 31/05/2022 18:04

Vaduz, I think

Chrestomanci3 · 31/05/2022 18:06

Xinjao, Ipswich ("I may be wrong, but ...."), Molokai and St Petersburg are our favourites. We now sing 'Get dressed you Merry Gentlemen" at Christmas.

LosingTheWill2022 · 31/05/2022 18:07

It's the most fabulous series. Such clever and funny writing. John Finnemore is so clever.

Xinzhou is one of my favourites. From Arthur's snowman to Douglas's confession as to why Martin smells of bacon. And all the games they play including fizz buzz and "whoops 'ave a banana" .
Me and dd reslisten frequently as we have the full alphabet on audible.

Where/ how are you listening to it? I had forgotten about it til i saw this thread and dc would love it...

Ottery St Mary is my absolute favourite, and is still quoted between us 10 years on. I love Wokingham for Prunella Scales, and Newcastle because Martin isn't played by Benedict and they hint at it as a joke. Many happy memories of playing Cabin Pressure in the car on long journeys with the children (who are now adults with cars of their own).

TheFallenMadonna · 31/05/2022 18:10

Ipswich I think. "Hey, Chief..."
Molokai?

But all of them really.

I have them on CD - bought years ago following a recommendation on here.

TheFallenMadonna · 31/05/2022 18:14

And the interview in Yverdon les Bains.

OnlyLosersTakeTheBus · 31/05/2022 18:17

It's easier to pick the weaker ones. But even Abu Dhabi has "and no one knows why...." and "you have open wounds!" as well as " I used to know that one" which are at least 3 quotes we use regularly. All the kids quote it on a frequent basis, we play words of one sound as well as yellow car - we played it non stop during a fortnight driving to, from and round Cornwall once and it's stuck. We listen to Molokai during Christmas lunch.

StellaOlivetti · 31/05/2022 18:20

Ottery St Mary and Ipswich are my favourites I think, but I love them all. Also love Wokingham when the doctor thinks that Martin and Caitlin are in fancy dress.

SnotMikeUpPuffedHe · 31/05/2022 18:20

I'd find it easier to decide on my favourite child.

That said, Xinzhou includes my favourite incidence of Arthur saying 'brilliant' - when Douglas tells him his snowman saved the day. JF hits exactly the right combination of 'well that is brilliant' and 'of course my snowman saved the day, why wouldn't it?'.

I also have a great fondness for Ottery St Mary because the conversation about fitting 100 otters on to Gerti is exactly the sort of conversation I used to end up having with my late father, and it makes me think of him and smile.

@WhyPaulMemory , Qikiqtarjuaq

Thank you! I am so lazy, should have googled.

Cabin Pressure led me on to find JFSP, for which I am forever grateful. The man is a national treasure. I went to the live show just before lockdown at the end of 2019, was absolutely hilarious, and so great to see the performers in the flesh.

That can't be right, There’s always a U after a Q. It’s the law. Mrs Dimont taught me that – eventually.

I have 26 favourite episodes 😀

The only episode I don't relisten to is Helsinki. I really don't like the sister.

I think JF said the episode he would rewrite if he could is Kuala Lumpa.

GerundTheBehemoth · 31/05/2022 18:54

I know most people love Ottery St Mary the most, but Ipswich edges it for me. Qikiqtarjuaq, Douz, Rotterdam and Gdansk are also faves.

Palavah · 31/05/2022 18:56

Ottery St Mary
The one with the polar bear commentary
The one with the fire safety exam

Oh that's interesting, I wonder why. I like Kuala Lumpur a lot. Poor Martin! I think the ones where they're not necessarily heading anywhere, but just them doing their thing between the 4 of them, are so good. Like Ipswich and Fitton, as well.

I find Boston one of the harder to listen to (still love it though!), mainly because I seethe at the arrogance of that crass American and his insistence on smoking. I wish Carolyn would have unleashed a Gale Force 12 on him!
