Just re-listening to Cabin Pressure with 10 yr old DS, who has got really into it, and whenever the theme starts comes up and says "the lemon is in play"!

I'm feeling a bit shit today so was wondering what everyone's favourite episodes are, mine are .....

The one with the orchestra
St Petersburg.... in fact anyone where they get it over on Gordon
Berling Day
The one where they pick up Theresa of Lichtenstein for the first time

But they are all bloody great really aren't they??

Ottery St Mary for me, as much for Herc and Carolyn's date as for the main plot.

I particularly like when she discovers Herc is a vegetarian and then orders a platter of Whitebait. "Twenty little lives!"😁

And then he accuses her of 'inhaling a shoal of fish'.

They're made for each other, those two.

I mean, I know they are, in terms of being characters written in a relationship but they are couple goals for me.

HappyCup · 31/05/2022 21:37

They’re all available for free as a podcast if you search ‘Cumberbin’s Treasure’.

love cabin pressure!
like others have said Xinzhou (fizz, buzz ‘ave a banaaana, here i am don’t step on me 😂)
and i love Herc and Carolyn relationship

GregBrawlsInDogJail · 31/05/2022 22:36

I thought of Herc and Carolyn today when I saw a bichon being walked.

"My dog is not ridiculous."
"Then whose dog is that?"

cakeorwine · 31/05/2022 22:46

Qiqitarkjuak, You know what I mean!

I love how the series develops and you can see the relationships change between them. John Finnemore has a blog where you can see how he writes each episode

johnfinnemore.blogspot.com/

I also love Uskerty - he had the idea of Carolyn and Martin being together and Douglas and Arthur being together.

Douz is great. John Sessions was so funny ' You're not the only ones who had an Empire'

cakeorwine · 31/05/2022 22:49

Herc and Douglas (Anthony Head and Roger Allum) trying to outsmooth each other for the video.

"Hello and welcome to MJN Air, You will have a marvellous flight"

merryhouse · 31/05/2022 22:53

...and the polar bears! we Need to Watch the polar bears!

Mrs Dimont taught me that. Eventually.

if I want a play I go to the theatre if I want music I go to a concert
do you mum? when?
shut up arthur

oh look Mr Burling I can see the sea!

and the one where it turns out Martin was in cahoots with Douglas all along (which took me at least three goes through to find out because I always fall asleep on long car journeys Blush)

HERC! I Love You!.. but Douglas will be captain.

I have found my people! No one I know in RL knows what I’m talking about . I have listened to them all, so, so many times and I am totally in love with Douglas😂. Love “remember, otters may shift in transit” and no life jackets “because otters can swim”. Also love Theresa, “my BMW is hurt!” and often find myself saying “Le Bear Polar!” Too many favourite bits to quote. If only I could find something else as good to listen to… the closest I’ve got is Deep Trouble Series 2.

I've always loved Deep Trouble as well. You might like Hut 33 (code breakers at Bletchley Park who hate each other) and Double Science (Ben Willibond and Justin Edwards as inept science teachers). I am an insomniac and the radio 4 comedies keep me company in the small hours. CP will always be my first love though.

cakeorwine · 31/05/2022 23:12

Paris was funny - as BC was well known as Sherlock Holmes.

There were lots of references to Miss Marple when the whisky is stolen. There's a convulated quote from Martin about w “When you have eliminated all which is impossible, then whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth"

Except it's more convoluted when Martin says it

NashvilleQueen · 31/05/2022 23:17

I love all of them but:

Limerick (because of Arthur doing the phonetic alphabet)
Xinzhou
Fitton (with the secret pub)
Otterly St Mary
St Petersburg

And the Zurich two parter gives the most perfect ending ever to such a wonderful series. I love JF.

NashvilleQueen · 31/05/2022 23:20

I thought of Herc just yesterday when my daughter asked me about the word jubilee. When carolyn says she doesn't give two hoots about Therese being a princess and he replies she's like an owl at a jubilee.

I'd find it easier to decide on my favourite child.

That said, Xinzhou includes my favourite incidence of Arthur saying 'brilliant' - when Douglas tells him his snowman saved the day. JF hits exactly the right combination of 'well that is brilliant' and 'of course my snowman saved the day, why wouldn't it?'.

I also have a great fondness for Ottery St Mary because the conversation about fitting 100 otters on to Gerti is exactly the sort of conversation I used to end up having with my late father, and it makes me think of him and smile.

Favourite child is simple - I only have one so if he's being amenable he's my favourite and if he's being a grumpy proto- teen anyone else's child is 😉.

Favourite Cabin Pressure is a far more difficult prospect as there are way more to choose from. I think all of it is 'brilliant'.

Yay! Thank you HappyCup you’ve made my evening and I’m now binge listening when I should be sleeping. Found my people and v. happy!

AmigoDog · 01/06/2022 00:39

I love them all. My least favourite ones are the episodes with really unpleasant customers. I think that’s sometimes taken a bit far.
My absolute absolute favourite is Ipswich. It’s perfect.

WelshDaffodil · 01/06/2022 00:54

Got to be Vaduz for me...interestingly I seem to remember JF said he had a rare chance to do a few re-writes based on audience reactions for the ep "Martin, I believe you're look directly at the King" 😆Love the last bit where he asks the princess out (to Duxford) and you almost forget Douglas is there until she's gone and suddenly he says "Well! you've got yourself a bobsled" etc

St Petersburg also a fave, especially all the "Gordon's Gin" shenanigans.

When Caroline flies to Ireland specifically to get Herc a sheep (which he'll hate)

So many bits. Love the interview as well. "We've never had anyone answer to two decimal places before..."

MWestie · 01/06/2022 01:28

So happy to find fellow Cabin Pressure lovers! I absolutely adore it, my DC too, and for me it is the ultimate comfort listen.

A friend and I keep hunting down unusual Toblerones for each other!

Like a poster above, I remember just weeping with helpless laughter the first few times I listened to particular lines.

Love the subtle changes in Martin's credits at the end of each episode as the series go on.

Impossible to pick one favourite, there are just too many. JF's writing and the ensemble cast set the bar so high, even the weakest episodes to me are still brilliant.

Let me just check my citrus pocket. And my emergency citrus pocket...

I have two fluffy dressing gowns in case one of them goes wrong.

And now, I have to x-ray some geese.

Jelly babies to manual!

OttersMayHaveShiftedInTransit · 01/06/2022 08:30

Opening a packet of sweets in the car is always referred to as setting the jelly babies to manual. I have to remind DH that introducing me as his 'terrible wife' may not go down too well with people that haven't listened to CP.

comfortablyfrumpy · 01/06/2022 08:47

I am so glad there are other CP people out there. I don't know anyone else apart from my Dad who likes it.

Long car journey tomorrow so will line up an episode or two.

... And pack an apple to put me in a good mood if I get stuck in traffic 😁😁

Brb convincing DH to start introducing me as his awful wife

"It was on our second date – Rigoletto. It wasn’t the look of pure rapture on your face; it was the look of bored contempt you assumed when you saw me looking. But I didn't decide to marry you until you flew to Ireland to buy me a stuffed sheep just because you knew how much I would hate it."

#couplegoals

SnotMikeUpPuffedHe · 01/06/2022 10:44

No-one decides to marry me. I decide to marry them.
