We’ve moved near an Aldi (I don’t drive so have to walk to do grocery shopping) and I’m besides myself with excitement.

Can you tell me your top buys if you shop there? I’ve heard good things about the chocolate…

Melt-in-the-middle fishcakes.

@ImplementingTheDennisSystem

Their scented candles, tomato and mascapone stir in pasta sauce, fresh pizzas, fresh filled ravioli and salmon Wellington
The salmon Wellington is divine! (Had the prawn and white wine one). I didn't expect it to be that good for the price. I need to buy more...

The chocolate is fab. And they do a really good organic wine.

Their baked wannabe-wotsits are far nicer than actual wotsits.

MotherofAutism · 08/03/2022 21:00

Chilled aisle - Mac & Cheese Crispbakes. I promise they are tonnes nicer than they sound and are very creamy tasting. See also
The cheese & spring onion Crispbakes, although they've been MIA for a while now.

Black box 'Specially Selected' Choc chip shortbread rounds they are heavenly

Small black jars above pasta - Pesto Rosso, Tomato & Mascarpone and Grilled peppers & tomato stir in sauces. So, so nice

Large bars of chocolate in cardboard - the caramel one especially

Aldi's own brand sachets of Caramel Lattes / Toffee Lattes / Chocolate Mocha and I strongly advise making them with hot milk rather than water like the directions. Very very nice

In spring/summer season they have canned cocktails for less than £1 each and there absolutely beautiful!

Greyarea12 · 08/03/2022 21:00

I do majority of my shop in aldi.

Lacura caviar day and night creams.
Onion & chive puff pastry twists
Active rhubarb yoghurts - they are my fav
Their layered yoghurts
Little snacks choc bars (in fridge)
Onion & garlic dip (in fridge)
Belmont choc biscuits - my fav also
Belmont caramel wacko biscuits
I like all their meats
Raspberry & pavlova ice cream
Savour bakes wheat crackers
Specially selected sea salt crackers

I buy their fruit & veg but sometimes it's mouldy when I get it home. Have to inspect it there and then on the shelf.

PartySuziPlease · 08/03/2022 21:01

Take away (or take a break?) biscuits are the best,, thick layer of chocolate in the middle... the brioche buns and their handcooked salt and vinegar Crisps are so good too.

BeaLola · 08/03/2022 21:05

@HRTQueen

The butter with salt crystals
DaffodilBiscuitDaffodilBiscuitDaffodilThank you very much - will keep my eyes peeled
Buildingthefuture · 08/03/2022 21:10

Thai Green Curry cooking kit, Jalfrezi curry sauce Jar (the one with spices in the top), microwave rice, the lacura face cleanser (it’s a knock off of Liz Earle and more than £10 cheaper!) fleur de prairie rose wine, both still and sparking are fab, can’t often get the still though, norpack butter, Greek yogurt, freshly squeezed orange juice….
Loads of their stuff is good. I don’t really rate the meat and the salad can be a bit slimy….other than that, all good (when in stock!)

Hellorhighwater · 08/03/2022 21:11

I like their chocolate. And all the meat, fruit, veg, milk, eggs, sugar etc is the same as any other supermarkets. DD (who is super-fussy) doesn’t like their quavers, but does like all the snack bars and ice cream and hasn’t noticed I subbed the Pringles!

I mostly go for her snack foods. I like their Lacura Mighty shampoo and conditioner, and all the cleaning stuff. Not keen on any of their pretend brands myself - things like chocolate fingers aren’t the same at all - but things like pastry, frozen croissants, chopped tomatoes. They’ve just bought out new sweet potato wedges and roasting veg that are really nice. I didn’t like the Earl grey, but I like the chamomile and peppermint teas. The coffee is a bit weak, and the frozen fish I had was a bit meh. I think you just have to try it and see what you like and what you will accept no substitute for. Everyone’s different!

EmergencyPoncho · 08/03/2022 21:13

I'm currently loving the protein yoghurt pouches, the Brooklea ones, not so much the Graham's Skyr ones. And I was loving the serum but can't currently find it!

Yes! I use this to keep warm while WFH, love it!

Pretty much the only things I don't get at Aldi are the washing up liquid (rubbish leaky bottle) and baked beans.

They've just started doing a low sugar granola which is fab.

MuchuseasaChocolateTeapot · 08/03/2022 21:37

Choceur hazelnut choc, thick apricot yoghurts, their crumbly feta and the double strength orange squash are all our must buys, and their crusty loaves are great too. Can get most things but do a monthly Ocado for real Worcester Sauce, Shreddies, tinned dog food, particular branded things we prefer.

I think the Dairyfine choc is 🤢, but the Moser and Choceur are really nice.

HippyChickMama · 08/03/2022 21:42

Massive tubs of full fat Greek yoghurt
Specially selected pizza
Ready to cook stir fry meals, especially the chicken tikka one
Specially selected cheddar and caramelised onion quiche
Tapas, especially the lemon and herb olives
Their version of The Sanctuary bath soak
Pre mixed G&T, the spiced plum and clementine one at Christmas was lovely

Furries · 08/03/2022 21:56

If anyone is looking for an egg chair for the garden, my branch had them in at the weekend. I seem to remember a thread or two last year of people trying to get them.

MrsDrudge · 08/03/2022 21:58

Oaties (Aldi version of Hobnobs) are brilliant and a third of the price. Be warned though - it’s impossible to just eat one of the chocolate ones.

EvilPea · 08/03/2022 22:01

Oh the bathroom cleaner is like nothing else you can buy. It’s utterly magic. Zero water marks and I’m in a really really hard water area.

EvilPea · 08/03/2022 22:07

Wagyu burgers really good (I don’t eat meat now, but the rest of the family really enjoy them and I used to)

They're 🤦🏼‍♀️ Typo. Crikey
SaveWaterDrinkGin · 08/03/2022 22:22

I only go in for the bakery section, plus the chocolate and biscuits.

Oh, and ski goggles and the odd chainsaw 😂

LadyOfMisrule · 08/03/2022 22:24

Part baked bread.
Skin-on fries.
Fruit cider.
Frozen pizzas.
Compostable bags for veg peelings.
Bergamot liquid soap.
All the other liquid soap.
Lime and basil antibac gel.
10 years ago their nappies and wipes were worth driving to the next town to buy. Haven't needed them since, and hope never to again.

LadyOfMisrule · 08/03/2022 22:25

Mozzarella burgers. I forgot those.

And their premium frozen beef burgers.

aintnospringchicken · 08/03/2022 22:28

Orange juice with bits
Cloudy lemonade
Barbecued pulled pork
Frozen chicken fajitas mix

jelly79 · 08/03/2022 22:30

Spanish chorizo
Fake nespresso coffee pods
Seeded bread
Chocolate brioche
Jars sundried tomatoes
Aldi soft cheese
Dishwasher tablets
Lacura
Fake jo Malone candles and hand washes

I avoid
Fabric softener (doesn't smell)

Steaks with beef butter is amazing!!

MsFudge99 · 08/03/2022 22:50

Everything!!... apart from the McDonald's copies, absolutely revolting and what I'd imagine dog food would taste like if it was mixed with cardboard, random but true!

Darklane · 08/03/2022 23:10

So much. I do most of my main shop there & just top up things I can’t get at other stores.
All the fruit & veg, especially the Super 6, never had a problem with it not lasting
Boil in the bag rice
Spaghetti cheap & doesn’t go to mush
Timed chopped tomatoes, thick not watery like others
Real mayonnaise, in fact most of the condiments except their chutney
Extra virgin olive oil
Tonic
Extra mature cheddar
Shortbread rounds in the blue box, especially the chocolate chip ones
Dark chocolate ginger biscuits
Extra thick marmalade
Steak cut chips
Gin
Strongbow dupe

Don’t like though..
Cottage cheese
Crisps
Any baked goods eg bread, rolls
Paper goods eg toilet rolls, tissues
