We’ve moved near an Aldi (I don’t drive so have to walk to do grocery shopping) and I’m besides myself with excitement.

Can you tell me your top buys if you shop there? I’ve heard good things about the chocolate…

Scented candles. Lovely ❤️

LethargeMarg · 08/03/2022 14:11

Wheat crackers in a orangey yellow tall rectangle box. They're so nice and I have not been able to find another cracker that tastes an nice . They're like a healthier ritz cracker

Repetitivebeats · 08/03/2022 14:22

I always stock up on peanut butter (the no added sugar kind), ground coffee and smoked mackerel in Aldi. They're all miles cheaper but just as good as what I can get in Tesco, where I do most of my shopping.
I also love their version of mint Aero but they only do "sharing" size bars which I can eat in one sitting so I rarely buy it. Great value if you have more self control than I do though!

Titsywoo · 08/03/2022 14:27

I really like their meat - steaks are so good.

The salmon and cheese sauce wellington in the frozen section is very good.

I haven't shopped there in a while to be honest but those 2 stand out as favourites. Will have to go back soon!

TheDoveFromAboveCooCoo · 08/03/2022 14:33

Harrison's gin. Almost an exact copy of Hendricks but half the price.

maddiemookins16mum · 08/03/2022 14:34

I’ve recently converted - am saving loads.

Diplomat gold label tea bags.
Norpak spreadable butter (half the price as Lurkpak and is the same)
Their ready rolled puff pastry 89p
Frozen battered fish portions - proper fish not minced (lovely)
Loads more, but don’t want to overwhelm you.

TheDoveFromAboveCooCoo · 08/03/2022 14:34

@SummerOfComedy

Whenever I go into to Aldi, I buy one or two things that I think I would like but haven't tried before. Don't think I've ever been disappointed with anything.

What I'm trying to get my hands on at the moment is the frozen hash browns. They look like McDonald's version. Supposed to be really nice, but they've always sold out when I get there!

I especially like the Jo Malone type candles and Reed diffusers. Number 14 is my favourite.

If you manage to get your hands on the hash browns you will not be disappointed. They are amazing.

We do pretty much all of our shopping in Aldi now and there's very little that I would say 'don't bother with' - it's all good!

The only thing I'm really not keen on is the fake Lurpak, but I am ridiculously fussy about butter / spreads etc. Also their standard loo roll really isn't worth it - a roll barely lasts a day in our house and there's only 3 of us! But the next step up, 'softest quilted' or something I think it's called, is fine.

Things we buy regularly and think are good quality for the price:

  • sea bream fillets
  • ribeye steaks
  • spanish / italian grains (microwaveable packs and so handy)
  • chocolate and biscuits, all really good
  • fruit and veg is absolutely fine, in fact seems to last longer than other shops' offerings
  • brioche burger rolls, absolutely excellent, they don't fall apart - in fact most of their bread / pastry selection is good
  • toiletries esp. the Lacura brand. The skincare is ridiculously cheap and very good quality
  • booze!
fussychica · 08/03/2022 16:27

Wheat crackers
Dark chocolate
Cheeses
Cooked meats
Lacura skincare
Almat washing powder tablets - not always in stock
Floor wipes
Dupe fevertree tonic water and lots more

Don't like their dishwasher tablets, ready meals. Happy shopping!

usernotfound0000 · 08/03/2022 17:56

I do my full shop there. I haven't had any problems with anything apart from some of the fruit doesn't last me the full week before going bad. Things that I recommend are:
Steak
Chicken breasts
Cheese
Fresh pizzas
Greek yogurt
Prosecco
Dark chocolate
Fake Pringles
Fajita kits
Bread
Nuts
Seeds
Dried fruit
Oats
Cereal
Tomato soup (better than Heinz)

The only things I don't get there are the stuff they don't sell.

usernotfound0000 · 08/03/2022 17:57

Oh and also the face creams and hand cream, shower gels and I've just moved to their shampoo.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 08/03/2022 18:03

Big tub of Greek yogurt( I buy the one with honey)
Moser Roth milk chocolate with salted pretzels
Fresh specially selected pizzas are lovely
Bags of salted mixed nuts are nice

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 08/03/2022 18:22

Things I specifically go to Aldi for are:

bags of porridge oats (brown bag, green writing, think they may be organic). Cheap and delicious.

Bags of sultanas & cranberries. Half the price and possibly better quality than the Whitworths ones

Unsalted cashews for cooking

Bags of frozen dark cherries (and other fruit) for eating with yogurt. I am possibly a bit addicted.

Rainbow vegetable individual pies (with chick peas).

I only visit once a month or so, so do a very weird shop of multiples of the above, plus the other good stuff like free range chicken, Greek yoghurt, fruit & veg and things I don't need from the middle aisle.

DespairingHomeowner · 08/03/2022 18:29

Lots of things!

Chocolate, biscuits
Skyr
Their version of ‘finest ’ things (esp the knock off higgidy pies)
Crackers
Nuts, peanut butter
Liquid hand soap
Concentrated cleaner (comes in a bottle that looks like fairy, you diluted a spray bottle for kitchen/bathroom)

Toiletries in general, toothbrushes, bin bags etc

More things than not really … they make some of their own products, many are made by household brands (sometimes a different recipe but not always)

Seasidemumma77 · 08/03/2022 18:32

Cornish block butter
Chocolate Orange ice cream
Sushi
Rhubarb and ginger gin
Frech vodka

Do majority of my shopping at Aldi, but these are my top 5

sleaf · 08/03/2022 18:32

Moser Roth chocolate.
Smoked Salmon.
Pizzas and garlic bread.
Norpak butter - identical to Lurpak.
Greek style yoghurts, especially the Salted Caramel one.
Frozen Salmon Wellington.
Frozen Halloumi burgers.
Powerforce Bleach - best bleach ever, no need to scrub!
Cheese & Onion crisps.

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 08/03/2022 18:32

100% nut peanut and cashew nut butters
Italian coffee beans
Sourdough bake at home baguettes
Popcorn bars

I do most of my shopping in Aldi but these are the things I'd make a special trip to buy even if I am doing the main shop elsewhere.

Puffalicious · 08/03/2022 18:35

Butter with salt crystals in is gorgeous

Outside voice this butter is responsible for the 9lb weight gain over the past 6 months! It's bloody gorgeous.

UnconditionalSurrender · 08/03/2022 18:38

Too Legit waterproof mascara - can even swim in it
Eye brow gel- best I've tried
Aldi pesto- 89p and DS prefers it to fancy expensive one.
Greysons orange gin
All the chocolate.

WorriedMillie · 08/03/2022 18:44

The Thai curry kits are good
Lime soda drink
Soft cheese with pineapple
Cola bottles
Maple and mustard dressing
Chilli jam
Tempura chicken fillets

StillWeRise · 08/03/2022 18:50

their greek style yogurt is excellent
the butter with salt crystals - lovely
organic jumbo oats

unfortunately their bread is rubbish

goodnightgrumble · 08/03/2022 18:55

Can't remember the name of it. Think it is Rossini. Tastes exactly like peroni!

goodnightgrumble · 08/03/2022 18:55

My kids love the groovy biscuits too

BurscoughBooths · 08/03/2022 18:58

The dishwasher tablets didn’t remove tea stains from mugs

Carpediem15 · 08/03/2022 19:01

Curry sauce jars which has a spice pack on the lid.
Infusion Bags - Peppermint and Liquorice and Ginger and Lemongrass. (if you want these you have to sort through the boxes as there are mixed packs in the box)
Frozen Berry Fruits which are half the price of other shops and are good.
Pasta Sauce Jars
Half Chocolate Oat biscuits and the Wagon Wheel dupes.
Hot Chocolate tubs - full fat and 40 cals ones.
