What's the best peanut butter?

After years of buying bog standard supermarket cheapest peanut butter, I bought some Meridian last week and wow it is soooo good. It's accidentally picked up almond butter, so then bought chunky peanut butter. Can't believe I've been missing out on this stuff.

What's the best peanut butter, what shall I try next?

Manilife has 1.1g of salt per hundred grams, which is relatively high.

LoveFall · 31/01/2022 00:55

We have been buying the Costco Kirkland brand. The natural one. The only issue, as usual with natural, is the oil has separated and it if a faff and a half to stir it up.

Is it though? In the grand scheme of things? 100g is a 1/3 of a regular sized jar. No one is going to have that a day. I'm sure there are far worse things in peoples diets that they're eating.

Use an electric mixer to mix it all up. It'll stay blended and smooth for a month or two

Do you all just put it as a sandwich filler or do you use it other ways? Just wondering if I'm missing out. Not something I buy.

Wafflesnsniffles · 31/01/2022 01:24

Whole Earth crunchy - I buy the 1kg tubs.

Almost as pure as meridian but less of a faff

@Daenerys77

Yumello. Especially the salted date version!
Came here to say this. I’ve tried ALL the peanut butters and this is the best!

also love manilife and proper nutty.

Notarealmum · 31/01/2022 01:47

Pic’s crunchy. We buy ours from Tesco. No sugar or added oils and (even) better and cheaper than Meridian!

VetOnCall · 31/01/2022 01:48

MyProtein does amazing peanut butter. Comes in 1kg tubs, no palm oil, no added salt or sugar. You have to order it from their website but they always have offers on so it's usually about £4-£5 for 1kg.

LemonDrizzles · 31/01/2022 02:37

Whole earth organic. Smooth or crunchy, depend s on what you feel like

BobbinThreadbare123 · 31/01/2022 07:28

@WineGetsMeThroughIt Skippy has got: Roasted peanuts, sugar, hydrogenated vegetable oil (cottonseed, soybean and rapeseed oil) to prevent separation, salt
Think it's OK health-wise!

ExtremelyDetermined · 31/01/2022 07:36

Whole Earth here. Don't like Manilife, Pip and Nut or Meridian, with Meridian being the worst.

MrsMigginsCat · 31/01/2022 07:46

@Plump82

I used to love Whole Earth until I tried Aldi's version and it's so, so much nicer. And cheaper, plus no palm oil.
I agree. Much nicer than Whole Earth and a bargain price too. The crunchy one is my favourite.
MrsMigginsCat · 31/01/2022 07:50

And I tried a new one the either day. Freda's with Cornish sea salt. Bloody amazing, but very pricy. I've just discovered they do a chipotle chilli one now too.

SartresSoul · 31/01/2022 09:08

Whole Earth. I like meridian too but aldi do their own version which is cheaper and tastes the same.

Are you in the UK? Kirkland peanut butter disappeared from my Costco a few years ago. I wish I could still buy it
12345FishAlive · 31/01/2022 10:20

Are those who say the natural stuff separates keeping it in the fridge? Once you've mixed the oil in it stays mixed in the fridge. If it's is 100% peanut surely it'll possibly grow bacteria if it's not in the fridge, I think it's the sugar and salt which stop it needing to be refrigerated. If someone with a science background wants to correct me please do but that's what I've always understood.

coffeecakeandtea · 31/01/2022 10:23

Yumello! They do a salted date peanut butter and a smokey Harissa peanut butter!

It takes a lot for pure peanut butter to go off outside of the week long 30 degree summer we have. Even in parts of India under 40 degree temperatures you can leave home made peanut / cashew / almond puree and their products out for a month provided you keep them covered and for purees keep stirring the oils.
MangoLipstick · 31/01/2022 10:36

Whole Earth smooth.

On toast, in milkshakes, or eaten straight out of the jar with a long-handled teaspoon.
Luciey · 31/01/2022 10:54

Store natural peanut butter upside down. The natural oils rise to the top so when you flip it to serve you have the peanut butter now at the top and the oil at the bottom.

MrsMariaReynolds · 31/01/2022 10:57

Skippy Extra Crunchy!

Blueuggboots · 31/01/2022 11:11

Sunpat.
Nothing else comes close.
All these whole nut ones just taste like earth to me and I don't like it when the oil is on the top.

This is what we do - it’s too hard to spread a thin layer when refrigerated.

We use it in porridge, with bananas, on crisp breads, with sesame seed breadsticks, with honey on toast, straight out of the jar as a quick snack. Hummingbird Bakery Peanut Butter Chocolate chip cookie recipe is delicious but a rare treat.

I also make rolled up peanut butter balls with oats, honey and peanut butter, milled flaxseed coated with chocolate stored in the freezer. Yummy.
