What were the first mumsnet threads you remember reading?

The first ones that stand out for me were one which was a huge bun fight about piercing babies ears.

The other one was by an obviously depressed mum whose house was a tip and the social worker was coming to visit soon (there was no sympathy to be had)

OP posts:
Nicolastuffedone · 16/05/2021 13:52

The fist thread I read was from someone called devonsmummy (?) she was in a horrible marriage and sounded really scared...I’ve often thought about her

ChaosTrulyReigns · 16/05/2021 14:00

The first thread I remember was Boffy Sad talking in her eloquent way about looking out a window down the alley and seeing two women walking chatting, one squatted down had a motion wothiut breaking conversation or almost stride, as though it was the most usual occurrence. Her telling if the take had me hooked.

Think it was about 2007. Smallest Chaos was 12 months, so I'd missed all that baby navel -gazing angst thank feck.

Some great threads mentioned on here.

The lego digestive transit time was hilarious and genius. Seem to remember lovely Lost In Wales was a scientific type person, so it added authenticity to the thread?

Country road stand off was KungFuPanda iirc? Another brilliant one.

Think there's some auld faces under name changes in this thread. Good to see ya Thanks

TheWeeDonkey · 16/05/2021 14:07

I think it might have been Angela Hernandez which still sets me off laughing when I think about it now😂

Interested in this thread?

I joined the night Peter had his heart transplant. The whole site was sitting vigil for him

GillBiggeloesHair · 16/05/2021 14:48

Supersoaker.

MouseholeCat · 16/05/2021 14:50

Penis beaker.

There used to be so many threads about pushchairs on busses in disabled spaces. I feel like those have dropped off.... apart from the deleted one the other day!

BackToSquareOneThanksBJ · 16/05/2021 14:51

Is that you UCB

Horehound · 16/05/2021 14:55

One where a woman knew her husband was cheating and wanted to go to the restaurant the guy and OW were meant to meet and see for herself. She was going to take the bus and wear a wig and glasses as a disguise.
People ripped her I think imaging some shitty wig and cagey peering round corners but I think it was like a high end believable wig. I felt really sorry for her. She never updated what happened but I hope she was ok.

Horehound · 16/05/2021 14:56

Penis beaker wasn't even that long ago! I do t even remember enjoying that one. It's the one that's rolled out but is over-egged imo.

OssieShowman · 16/05/2021 14:56

My favourite poster over the years has been Any Fucker, such down to earth advice

CokeDrinker · 16/05/2021 15:02

The one I remember is where a poster broke a wine glass at her PIL's, and they expect her to pay for it, even sent her a link to where she could buy them and the price. She was stunned, it was a complete accident.

I wish I knew if the thread still exists, and what the outcome was.

And anything with Cod

Cowbells · 16/05/2021 15:03

I remember someone called Stratters (I think) going for a date and doing a running commentary on what he was like and what she was going to wear. She seemed so excited and he seemed like something out of Mills & Boon (handsome pilot or similar) but I have no idea how it turned out.

I also remember people going round to help someone sort out a house that she said was in such a hoarder state of grimness that she didn't know where to start. It seemed like a load of MNers descended and helped her sort things out.

This was in the good old days before AIBU ruled the active discussion threads.

Motnight · 16/05/2021 15:08

@ForgedInFire

Actually I know the first thread I remember- Bing was a fairly new show and there were no toys out for it yet. A mum had lovingly hand knitted a toy Bing for her child. Another mum admired it at the park, and upon hearing that it wasn't available for sale, stole it from the OPS child when she wasn't looking. Does anybody remember that?
I do remember that thread @ForgedInFire!

Remember she got thrown off the site and everyone changed their username to Anyfucker123 etc? Crazy
Chemenger · 16/05/2021 15:21

I started reading higher education threads about university admissions thinking I could give useful advice, being an admissions tutor. I soon got my comeuppance, was called a liar a few times and gave up. I remember someone had a pet crow whose adventures I used to follow.

RogueMNerKnowsNoShame · 16/05/2021 15:40

I don’t remember my first, but an early thread for me and the first to make an impression was cunty dog

Puttingouthefirewithgasoline · 16/05/2021 16:00

Shoes /on /off complete with artisan slippers in baskets and pictures of socks with toe things

King Alfred's cakes

Wondeful cathartic thread where a so called Mil said her dil had done something, we all had a 1000 post q and a with her, it was bliss.

The yoni massage

There are some hilarious funny writers on mn, it's great when something sparks off the funny comments, dementors can't handle that if course and keep posting about trolls and can't be real.
Personally I think the dementors should be given repremands when people are having a laugh I really do.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 16/05/2021 16:01

God. I thought I started here in about 2012. Reading some of these I have been here quite a bit longer!!

Cutted up pear, yoni massage, penis beaker yes.

River of sweet corn? One of the few baby posts I read, and only then because someone mentioned it in a 'why always carrots?' thread.

Puttingouthefirewithgasoline · 16/05/2021 16:02

Coke I think that one of really blew up and made the papers

Puttingouthefirewithgasoline · 16/05/2021 16:03

Oh and Bob the friendly, lonely neighbour, who went out in the garden every time she did and her dd.
She raised her fence, so he built a platform 😂 people thought this was fine.

Hughbert · 16/05/2021 16:09

I was looking for breastfeeding advice and Google led me to a thread by Hunkermunker. That was 2005.

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 16/05/2021 16:12

my fondest early memories are The Unreasonable Supersoaker, and that wind-up merchant (Mohze???) banging on about going waterskiiing in the Caribbean at two weeks post partum.

I tried to explain this to someone the other day but I think you had to be there (here) Grin
