What were the first mumsnet threads you remember reading?

The first ones that stand out for me were one which was a huge bun fight about piercing babies ears.

The other one was by an obviously depressed mum whose house was a tip and the social worker was coming to visit soon (there was no sympathy to be had)

I joined in about 2008 but the threads that stand out for me were the ones from chocoraisin back in 2012 onwards. I’ll always remember how brave and dignified she was.

IhateBoswell · 14/05/2021 21:50

It was linked to from another site I used, as evidence of how bizarre Mumsnet posters are 😬😂
It was a McDonald’s thread from 2012, it ran to hundreds of posts.

HumphreyCobblers · 14/05/2021 21:51

I read about the Gina Ford debacle and thought I would give it a go. It was in 2007/8.

The very first thing I remember reading was a post by RubyRioja on a ‘you know you are a parent when’ thread where she said a wind up toy gives you time for foreplay 🤣

My first post was on a thread about We Need to Talk About Kevin. I had to really pluck up courage to press post.

I remember loving finding other people who read Antonia Forest. Never met anyone in real life. And everyone was so funny! I had never met so many funny women, witty, clever and hilarious.

What did you think about the Kevin book?

The thread that brought me here was the one with the lady who came home to find a neighbour had built a door to access her garden. Think that was the one with the Spanish gran?

MangosteenSoda · 14/05/2021 21:57

Yeah, similar to what @HumphreyCobblers said. I loved how funny and irreverent everyone seemed to be. I think that MN is somewhat more serious/pearl clutchy now, but it’s still fucking funny and helpful overall.

sweetypop · 14/05/2021 22:04

The mysterious one where an ironing board either appeared or disappeared in the ops hallway... can still remember the layout of her apartment

Mugsen · 14/05/2021 22:04

The ones that stand out are Sharon and her t-rexing dp, the dinner party with the bum pinching host and the cutted up pear.

ElizabethinherGermanGarden · 14/05/2021 22:08

I started at the time of Mitmoo and the back garden light. It was a brilliant intro.

thenightsky · 14/05/2021 22:11

@NutellaEllaElla

Anything with Dittany
Oh yes. I do hope she's still around with a name change!
SpornStar · 14/05/2021 22:17

Mine was by Lost in Wales on a Halloween name change to Lost in Wails (I think). It was many years ago now.

She had a terrible stomach bug and decided to time the transit of food through her system by swallowing a piece of yellow Lego and the waiting for it to reappear out the other end. I can’t remember the outcome but I remember howling with laughter for many pages.

SlightlyJaded · 14/05/2021 22:17

I have been here since about 2004 and the thread that made me join was a Pedlars one. I don't even know if Pedlars still exists but it was one of the first 'vintage sourced homeware shite' sites and there were pages and pages of 'finds' like 'Genuine vintage rustic spanner sourced from Citroen disused factory in Nimes - £295' and the pages of wit and commentary made me cry with laughter.

Soon after joining, I came across Sinister Easter Bonnet, River of Sweetcorn, Booble Plate and then followed 'live' as Shiny spied on her 'D'P being stood up by his mysterious phone OW (also Shiny) at the Penguin Enclosure at Bird Word.

TSSDNCOP · 14/05/2021 22:23

Bobble plate was started the day I joined up. I needed to be where people were that funny.

Schmoozer · 14/05/2021 22:26

T-Rex 🦖 bloke 🤣🤣🤣
And something odd like this is the long and short of it !!

Pseud · 14/05/2021 22:27

Wnaky baskets - no idea why that one has stuck in my memory!

Bluefinger · 14/05/2021 22:31

Oh god yeah bobble plate and t rex were hilarious also the clay penis?

OP posts:
Bluefinger · 14/05/2021 22:32

Omg wnaky baskets yes!

Threads on breastfeeding as I was really struggling. Went on to exclusively breastfeed two babies and a lot of that is thanks to learning about it on here.

BabySocksNeverStayOn · 14/05/2021 22:33

It must have been 2006 ish and there was a thread about a lady asking 'just how hard can it be having and living with a baby?' She was pregnant and I often wonder just how hard (or not) it actually was!

Bluefinger · 14/05/2021 22:35

Something about horses on a plane, that was hilarious.

SlightlyJaded · 14/05/2021 22:35

@PedlarsSpanner.

Amazing. I miss the Pedlars threads.

HumphreyCobblers · 14/05/2021 22:37

I had forgotten wnaky baskets! And the clay penis. I remember a new poster called Boco arriving just after me and she was hilarious, everyone loved her and I was jealous that I couldn’t be so funny.

As far a Kevin was concerned I think I just talked about a Lionel shriver interview.

SlightlyJaded · 14/05/2021 22:38

I remember cunting sainsburys @TeddingtonTrashbag

Also clicking on the MN Bat
And Terry Wogan's cock.

Such innocence.

LunaNorth · 14/05/2021 22:40

God, Pedlar. How could I have forgotten?
