What were the first mumsnet threads you remember reading?

The first ones that stand out for me were one which was a huge bun fight about piercing babies ears.

The other one was by an obviously depressed mum whose house was a tip and the social worker was coming to visit soon (there was no sympathy to be had)

The 'booble plate' thread in classics, hadn't laughed like that in a while.

ToastAndCoffee · 14/05/2021 21:28

Also the mumsnet scarf. Which I still own and love.

Friolero · 14/05/2021 21:28

The one where the OP’s DH ate a fat ball.

When I was TTC DC1, I knew so many people who'd said they conceived first try or by accident, so I was foolishly panicking when we hadn't conceived after a whopping three months Blush

I Googled "TTC for 3 months" and a thread came up on here where someone had posted for advice in a very similar position to me. Omg, she got her arse handed to her. I remember thinking "fucking hell, I won't go there for advice". Of course a few months later, I was pregnant and discovered the pregnancy boards on here and what a huge about of info there is available here. That was 7ish years ago and I'm still here (with a few flounces in between, natch Wink)

Luckymcducky did you not get baby centre boards recommended? They were my training grounds for mumsnet lol

The only thing I remember from baby centre was an annoying bint called Melanie who had planned a wafty incense birth but ended up with a c-section

A woman who's ex husband fed their kids badger on a picnic at a museum.

pinkgin85 · 14/05/2021 21:38

I read Cancel the Cheque live, I had just checked a few days at that point

CaptainCallisto · 14/05/2021 21:38

The first specific thread I can remember was nickelbabe's live birth thread, but I'd been lurking for a while by then. Cutted up pear always sticks in my mind, as does the 'artisanal scotch egg' fat ball thread. I miss pre-penis beaker MN...

CaptainCallisto · 14/05/2021 21:39

It was 2010 when I joined. Just realised how long ago that actually is!

Bluefinger · 14/05/2021 21:40

Dittany was awesome. I wonder who she was?

MangosteenSoda · 14/05/2021 21:41

One about dinosaurs and religion I think. Someone linked to it on FB and I read it all and found it hilarious before having my own DC. It’s how I heard about MN and what made me come back here once pregnant.

Seriouslymole · 14/05/2021 21:41

I looked at nothing except sleep boards, and in particular the “early wakers support thread” for about a year. Said early waker is now 10 and an absolute joy.

EileenGC · 14/05/2021 21:42

Baby names - which is how I found MN actually. I have no babies or plan on having any soon, I think I was just googling my name or something like that?

As I started lurking more regularly, I remember stumbling across a MN classics thread so I discovered some gems including Sistine chapel, penis beaker, cancel the cheque... I feel like I had a proper MN crash course as my initiation to the site Grin

I tried baby centre at one point, but I didn't like it. Mumsnet is still my favourite, for all its faults Grin

Stunt Pineapple and Stunt Washing up areaGrin

Bluefinger · 14/05/2021 21:45

I remember the dinosaur one. There used to be lots of steiner threads too.
