Why are you awake?

One of these threads got me through three nights of early labour so I thought I'd start a new one.

My 5 month old is going through a painful sleep regression and I'm struggling to get her back in the crib. She's snoring gently on my chest while I feel nauseous with exhaustion....

Who else is awake? What are you up to tonight?

@NatashasTooth

Being up with babies and children in the night is exhausting! One of ours just came down and is now lying between us. He comes into our bed almost every night (and isn’t our youngest!), almost sleepwalking.
This brings me hope that my youngest might possibly sleep!!!

Tonight my 3yo woke up and came into me, waking my 11 week old as co-sleeping, who cried waking up DH who is in the spare room. Send Brew

Nonmaquillee · 30/03/2021 05:12

@PanPeter

My DC who is 3 days old hasn’t slept since 8pm this evening. I’ve had a grand total of 7 hours sleep since Thursday evening. I so hope it gets easier Sad
It gets easier, I promise. Those early days are really tough. Congratulations on your lovely new baby.

I've been awake since 3.30am because I stupidly scoffed a whole bag of crappy chocolate eggs at 11pm which is something I have never done before. Stress from having teenage DC.

Tinkerbell456 · 30/03/2021 05:12

I am awake because I am in Australia and it’s 3 pm where I am! 😛

I'm pregnant, had to pee. Didn't want to get out of bed but had to eventually . Started thinking about life , the universe and all that. Now I am no longer tired.

MaverickDanger · 30/03/2021 05:17

Feeding 3 month old DS. Think we have hit the sleep regression early - the past week, he will wake up every 2.5 hours after previously doing a 5 hour then 3 hour stint!

He has just unclogged a huge blocked duct that I woke up with at 2am and was really, really painful so big fan of him, even though it basically waterboarded him!

jpclarke · 30/03/2021 05:21

Woke an hour ago to feed breastfed 16month old ds. But got an upsetting text from my brother before bed and although I haven't replied it has my head in a swivel.

bishbashbosh99 · 30/03/2021 05:22

@Allmyarseandpeggymartin I'm the same. Had a disagreement with one of my husbands friends and now playing over everything I should have said to her.

Your guy sounds like a dick too!

MintyCedric · 30/03/2021 05:22

On my mum's sofa tonight as my dad was transferred to a nursing home yesterday, and DD needs the spare room as has school.

We can't see dad for 10 days as he has to quarantine and he's so frail I'm afraid he won't last that long, although equally we've been told he could go on indefinitely. We've already been caring for him at home for a year and he's just too high needs now for us to continue...I've currently on unpaid extended leave as couldn't manage to support and do a full time job.

I think I've managed about 3.5 hours...another gruelling day ahead but hopefully home tonight although not looking forward to the drama with mum that will no doubt precede that.

HamFisted · 30/03/2021 05:24

@YukoandHiro Hi! I've name changed since, but I was on one of those, 'why are you awake?' boards. Think we were both waiting for babies.

Mine was a boy and is also 5 months and in the throes of a sleep regression, bit I've not got the patience from trying to get him back in his cot so he ends up in bed with me (and my daughter too, tonight!) We had a nappy leak which is why we're up.

Mumtimes2 · 30/03/2021 05:25

@TopBitchoftheWitches

That was to mumtimes2, thought in i quoted you but obviously not.
@TopBitchoftheWitches No I’m not working tomorrow, it’s school holidays. I booked the jab for today in case I had side effects. If I could sleep it would help.

Hopefully we can both rest today and feel better later,

Rest up and feel better soon x

Quangoquandry · 30/03/2021 05:28

Lambing time here, had a busy night and just in bed now 😊 my dad will stay up until 6 when the first of the staff arrive, and then we'll do it all again tomorrow!

Travelledtheworld · 30/03/2021 05:37

Chronic insomniac. Went to bed at Midnight and awake four hours later.

Chaosandmadness · 30/03/2021 05:43

Another one who had the vaccine yesterday. Woke at 2am shivering uncontrollably and its only just stopped. All I can think about is I've got work in 3 hours and I can barely stand up.

Mamanyt · 30/03/2021 06:08

Well, I'm in the USA, and about 5 hours behind you. However, I'm a day sleeper. I go to bed around 7 AM, read for an hour and a half, then get up again around 5 in the afternoon. Been like this all my life. My mom used to tell me about getting up in the middle of the night to check on me at 4-5 months old, and finding me wide awake, playing with my toes, looking around and taking in the night. I have never worked anything but second and third shift jobs. I simply prefer the night to the day. It is quiet, it is calm, it is blessedly dark and peaceful.

ScrumptiousBears · 30/03/2021 06:09

I've got workman an coming in today to fix an issue they fucked up a year ago before lockdown. I'm worried it's going to go tits up again.

alanpartridgefromtheoasthouse · 30/03/2021 06:12

I've been awake much of the night with period pains. I had to go downstairs and lie on the sofa for a bit. Haven't had one this bad for a while. Good luck today to all the other night owls.

Duckswaddle · 30/03/2021 06:17

Been awake since around 3. Pissed off and disappointed at finding a perfect house that ticks all the wants boxes, put in an offer and now husband decides he doesn’t like it. Have a feeling his mom has said something to him.
Also have a bit of a stomach ache. Possibly from being so cross all day.

Wineiscooling · 30/03/2021 06:20

I've been awake for an hour. Woke up thirsty, I saw a friend in her garden yesterday and we drunk wine. Woke up with a raging thirst. Now lay in bed listening to the birds singing. I love this time of year and I'm excited for easing of lockdown measures.
My children are older now, age 8 and 12. I remember the sleepless nights but it really does go so quick. Enjoy the cuddles. Hope those with stress feel better soon

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 30/03/2021 06:21

Mamanyt, that’s fascinating. I can’t get my head around living permanently like that! Do you have a partner and are they the same? Don’t you get woken during the day by deliveries, traffic, phone calls etc?

merrymelody · 30/03/2021 06:24

I'm still up because it's 10:20 pm here but even though I plan on going to bed soon I know it's very unlikely that I'll sleep. DS is an out of control teen who's making me ill with worry and DD and I quarrelled earlier, which only happens about once a year. I'm feeling forlorn and fed up so turned to MN for solace.

MiddleEasternMummy · 30/03/2021 06:30

I'm awake and have been most of the night . Had my Covid jab yesterday and now my arm is in absolute agony and I've got the serious shakes 😩 . So bloody tired . Knowing I have a full on day tomorrow with no way of getting out of it is making me feel worse .

mummyof4kids · 30/03/2021 06:32

I've been up since 5.45, currently enjoying a hot cup of coffee in peace before the kids get up and the madness of getting ready for school and work begins

TopBitchoftheWitches · 30/03/2021 06:54

Another one who had the vaccine yesterday. Woke at 2am shivering uncontrollably and its only just stopped. All I can think about is I've got work in 3 hours and I can barely stand up.
And another, take paracetamol with added caffeine, seems to be helping me now I know I won't sleep.
everythingbackbutyou · 30/03/2021 07:38

@merrymelody, West Coast?! I am having my me time at 11.30 pm because as a single parent that's when I can get it...
