I'm not saying what this relates to and I'd ask everybody who knows not to say either for obvious legal reasons but I just wanted to post that I feel v sad about the news tonight.
I know there are posters who will be personally affected and just wanted to say my thoughts are with all who've loved and lost tonight. I wish it was otherwise.

Maybe because she wasn't simply doing that. The thread itself can cause distress, certainly encourages unwanted speculation and is completely insensitive.

I mean, just look at the way you've turned her name into initials like that. So crass, lazy and potentially upsetting.

Such awful news after hoping she would be found safely.

The whole jury can be dismissed and replaced. It happens. Trials have been delayed for this very reason.

Please just link to any trial that was stopped because of speculation on MN. Otherwise stop being ridiculous.

I don't know about any threads that were started today but the one that was running overnight was a really revolting combination of web sleuthing, wild speculation and complaints that the story wasn't exciting enough. Along with a really distasteful bit of fiction about the area where SE went missing.

I'd like to think that most MNers can just post to show their concern and support for SE's family and friends without being deleted again.

The jurors (if it gets to that stage) will be made up of people who read the internet. Let’s not risk jeopardising justice.

Realistically that wouldnt have happened even in the absence of M&H. It doesn’t happen with any missing person case. There’s no reason this case should have been any different at the start than every other.

It will be deleted as random speculation can be in contempt of court due to risk of prejudicing a future trial and Mumsnet as the host will be considered publisher in those circs and could face corporate prosecution if a trial collapsed as a result of a juror taking into account something they had seen on here rather than in the court room.

This is why BBC coverage has far fewer details then some other (less risk averse, shall we say) outlets.
