I'm not saying what this relates to and I'd ask everybody who knows not to say either for obvious legal reasons but I just wanted to post that I feel v sad about the news tonight.
I know there are posters who will be personally affected and just wanted to say my thoughts are with all who've loved and lost tonight. I wish it was otherwise.

ThanksThanksThanks

Sad

The friends and family of Sarah deserve huge credit for drawing attention to her disappearance

Within a very short time after she went missing, the whole area was plastered with posters with her photos, every shop, lamppost, tree, bench, had one stuck to it.

They were also incredibly active on social media, using local Twitter, Instagram and nextdoor accounts to spread the word.

My heart breaks for them all, they clearly loved her a lot to put such a huge effort into finding her and every single person was hoping for a positive outcome

Nith · 10/03/2021 21:40

Why is OP saying "posters who will be personally affected" ?

Probably because people who knew the victim personally have posted previously about her disappearance.

What reason?

People can’t help themselves - there will always be poster wanting to speculate & gossip. Damaging to ongoing investigation and can lead to claims of bias.

wonderstuff · 10/03/2021 21:42

So unbelievably sad and I'm so angry.

Dave2021 · 10/03/2021 21:42

@FlibbertyGiblets Thankyou

I've never once considered there could be things I can do to make women feel more safe. Thankyou

I had a long debate with my partner - I said I would always step in if I thought something wasn't right.

How is speculation on MumsNet or any social media damaging to an ongoing police investigation?

@Nith

Why is OP saying "posters who will be personally affected" ?

Probably because people who knew the victim personally have posted previously about her disappearance.

Many people have posted on threads to say they live in the area she was last seen in, and others have said they’ve known friends and colleagues of hers.

For all women, this is unsettling and sad but for those with a more direct connection to her or the area, it feels very close to home and sinister.

SurreyMumOfOne · 10/03/2021 21:43

It's truly horrifying. That poor lady. And thoughts with her friends and family.

The thing is, moving to the broader Clapham area to live for a first graduate job is almost a rite of passage for thousands of young adults every year. As already evidenced on this thread, many pp know the area well. I think it makes it all the more shocking when it's closer to home - there but for the grace of God, go I.

Personally I only moved to London when I was older, but have walked those areas many times, not always sober either, and I look back and think what was I doing? But when you know an area and are on home turf, you perhaps feel a bit safer.

HeathIns · 10/03/2021 21:44

Defence often claim that press and social media gossip and speculation creates unfair bias at trial.

Please wear a mask. For all us women threatened on the streets.

Are people really going to do this? Seriously? 🤦🏻‍♀️

That has nothing to do with MNHQ deleting posts.
blowinahoolie · 10/03/2021 21:46

What's worse is all the photos circulating of him. Surely shouldn't be allowed as it could prejudice any trial.

Incredibly sad news tonight.

EL8888 · 10/03/2021 21:46

Very sad. By this point l thought it was inevitable but didn’t want it to be true Sad. Thinking of her family and friends

scalphelp · 10/03/2021 21:46

Yeah, I bet the culprit wasn’t expecting such a massive amount of attention to be drawn to his missing victim. He probably though she would slip under the radar like the majority of missing persons.

HeathIns · 10/03/2021 21:46

Juror bias too due to them having read and been influenced by press/social media discussions.

FlibbertyGiblets · 10/03/2021 21:47

And yy sinister because of the possible plod involvement and the fact that victim blaming has never gone away.
That poor woman, my heart goes out to her family.

MrsPnut · 10/03/2021 21:47

Tomorrow in Parliament Jess Phillips will read out the names of all the women killed by men in the last 12 months.
The list is only finalised at the very last minute because unfortunately women are killed by men every day.
25 women were murdered by men in January and February this year, that is on average 3 women a week.
Male violence is the problem that no-one in power wants to tackle.

KitesFlyingInTheWind · 10/03/2021 21:48

Truely terrible.
Thoughts to her family.

HeathIns · 10/03/2021 21:48

Haffiana
Why do you say that?

FedNlanders · 10/03/2021 21:49

Just walked home from work and felt scared. Such sad sad news. RIP SE
