Just given DH and DS a trim. DS wanted to keep his floppy hair at the top, which is wavy and unpredictable. I gave a short back and sides. He says he is happy, but I can see odd length changes round the back and would prefer a second go at him. If he knows it doesn’t look perfect he’ll have a meltdown, so I am keeping quiet. With any luck, a school friend will point it out and then I’ll get a second go.

SilkieRabbits · 01/11/2020 10:23

A man is coming to collect 100 tudor bricks from us this evening.

DH is just off to collect the things I ordered from Sainsburys and the cat's renal diet food.

The silkie chickens have their new food and will have watermelon soon once DH comes back.

We will have a Sunday roast. DH is very happy I sold all three items and got a big discount on a bill.

PersisFord · 01/11/2020 10:41

@sueelleker YES!! I love Anne of green gables. I think persis has maybe 2 lines in the entire series but I also love the name but was forbidden from using it Angry so it’s my mumsnet fantasy name. If I had the nerve I would use it in Starbucks too - I usually pick Saskia or Annabel - I enjoy answering to a posh name (mine is the opposite of posh!!)

I bought jam sugar this time round but still ended up adding pectin. It was plum jam and it set SOLID!!! Next time maybe I could have a live thread where you experts can help me not lose my nerve!!!!

Is a sports massage nice or deeply unpleasant?!?

Champagneforeveryone · 01/11/2020 10:42

sueelleker
I have been categorically advised there is NO need to bleach the hair first, simply to leave the dye on longer.

I was sceptical of this but DS is certain this is the case, and I'm old so what would I know anyway? Personally I am somewhat against hair dye but know that to admit this is likely to provoke outward rebellion.

Hopefully the hair won't fall out Grin

HelloDulling · 01/11/2020 10:42

Well done on the selling of things. So satisfying.

Red dye on top of black? The colour won’t take, but it will give him something to do for an hour.

How are you testing the set? I don’t use anything high tech because I learned how to make jam when I was skint. I put a saucer or small plate in the fridge. When the jam has boiled for a bit, a put a drop of molten jam on the cold plate, allow it to cool and push at the edge of the drop with my finger. If it wrinkles it is done and will make a soft to medium set.

Taswama · 01/11/2020 11:00

Thanks for the new thread @MissConductUS and especially the link.

I have my mum visiting. DS1 is being a grumpy teenager and she said she cannot remember DB being like that as a teen. I said she's probably blocked it from her memory - she couldn't remember the toddler years being difficult. Oh but I can remember you being moody as a teenager, she says. Thanks mum!

SilkieRabbits · 01/11/2020 11:07

DD went through a hair dye phase last year, thankfully over once she realised she often got very different colours to what was planned and it wrecked her hair. She would often ask my advice though I have never dyed my hair, I tried the tester once and was allergic.

Sunday roast today. Chickens were clucking a lot for food this morning and DS was angry with DH that he left it in DH's car boot. DS won't speak though, he just stood glaring at DH. So I said are you cross about the chickens food and he replied yes. Smile Chickens now fed and watermelon on its way.

Man is collecting bricks tonight. Never made jam, my French MIL makes industrial quantities with fruit from her garden, strawberry is my favourite.

KeepHimJolene · 01/11/2020 11:07

I'm going to my student DS to assemble a flat-pack chest of drawers today. His cleaner hasn't been info two weeks so I will probably spend time cleaning too. DS is at work so empty flat. Then home to cook for my other two teenage DS Dull Sunday doing dull mummy things

SilkieRabbits · 01/11/2020 11:09

DH has just sent a message he has a pork roast and a lamb roast and I need to choose which for today.

Purplecatshopaholic · 01/11/2020 11:11

Quiet Sunday here. Coloured my roots - the greys are hidden again, woo hoo. Going to do my nails in a minute. Currently chilling on the sofa with my dog. DP is on his computer. Silence reigns - just the wind in the trees outside. Bliss.

enjoyingthequiet · 01/11/2020 11:20

What a lovely thread! I've missed the earlier 5 threads, but this is very comforting. I have DD14 and her friend crashed out after staying up late, and a quiet house otherwise.

DD wants to dye a blonde streak into her brown hair. Was going to let the hairdressers do it (or advise against it hopefully lol) but that option now closed for (at least) a month.....interested to see the hair dye comments on here. Suspect there is no way to achieve a blonde streak without bleach, which makes a semi-permanent version unlikely.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 01/11/2020 11:21

DH and I had a Korean burrito take away on Friday. Unusual concept but delicious execution. I ordered an extra portion of kimchi and had an omelette and kimchi sandwich for lunch yesterday. I love kimchi and I know that fermented foods are supposed to be great for the gut, but honestly every time I eat it my digestive system rumbles and gurgles like faulty plumbing.

SilkieRabbits · 01/11/2020 11:22

Hairdressers won't dye under 16s hair here as insurance won't cover it, I'm sure you'll be as devastated as me to learn that. Grin

Itwasgoodwhileitlasted · 01/11/2020 11:22

I am colouring my hair today.

Feeling weepy so DH cleaning sons bedroom while I shower, shave, moisturize.

Hoping this will brighten me up.

Might go for a walk later.

SpeedofaSloth · 01/11/2020 11:23

DS has a grassroots football match today, our local FA has posted a lovely message on FB about everyone playing today to take a moment to enjoy the company and the laughter while they can. I had something in my eye for a minute.

InsaneProbably · 01/11/2020 11:23

I found the cat's lost rat toy. It was under the couch where I said it probably was.

FairFridaythe13th · 01/11/2020 11:24

I just cleaned the loo and it’s come up lovely. Also swept the hall and there was loads of fluff, dust and leaves/twigs for some reason.

soddingkitten · 01/11/2020 11:25

I had suck a pavlovian reaction to Silkie’s post I am currently walking to our Tesco Local to get a pork joint for lunch. Grin

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 01/11/2020 11:29

I've just done our monthly accounts.

It is not raining and we will have brussel sprouts (Rosenkohl) for midday.

DH just came out and removed one tiny stack pf papers from the sofa, leaving enough empty space for a potential cat to be attracted, too.

MissConductUS · 01/11/2020 11:55

Another successful thread transition has been accomplished. Smile

I'm just done showering, taking DD to her job by 6:00 AM and having a bit of breakfast. I could have let DD drive herself but then we'd be down a car for the day.

It is currently just after 9am here. Why are you up?!

Eggy, I have a sleep maintenance disorder called early final awakening. I'm up very early, almost regardless of when I go to sleep. So I make the best of it by running, doing laundry and hanging out on MN when the rest of the household is asleep.

@Spudlet Sorry to hear about your ankle and plantar fasciitis. When I had plantar fasciitis my doctor gave me a cortisone injection and it fixed it right up. The only serious injury I've had in my 40 plus years of running has been a torn ligament in my right side gluteus medius, the big muscle on the hip. I had to stop running for almost two years before I healed enough to start again. I did a lot of walking instead.

Good luck with your sports massage and I hope you can get back out there soon.

@mathanxiety we also have a Honda generator and the snow blower DH dropped off yesterday was also purchased in 2003 when we bought this house. They're unstoppable. I think DH has been fancying a new mower for years and has been waiting for this one to die, which it refuses to do. So it's going into forced retirement.

@enjoyingthequiet - Welcome! The five previous threads were extremely boring and mundane, so you've missed nothing important. And your handle is perfect for this, so please stay and contribute.

DH is cooking oysters gratinées for lunch and has brought me a glass of white wine to go with them.

Champagneforeveryone · 01/11/2020 11:58

Lamb definitely Grin
SilkieRabbits · 01/11/2020 11:59

It was a hard choice but I've gone with a lamb roast as I bought mint sauce and we had a pork roast last Sunday.
