My new doormat arrived and it is thin enough to let the door open over it! Very pleased. If ddog is sick on this one, I will be vexed. The new smoke alarm is also loud enough that even ddog heard it, so that’s a good sign.

Contemplating a trip to the running shop tomorrow to get some insoles for my trainers, to give them a bit more support. It’s about an hour’s drive away so that will be a huge chunk of day gone... but if I don’t go now, I’ll miss my chance. Meh.

Sodding has renewed his love for Poomouse* and has been batting it around the hall outside my study door this morning, as well as kitten bombing meetings. 😩

A small parcel came for DH this morning. With the racket the postman made and the effort involved, you would have thought he’d posted a two man tent through the letterbox. DH says its the case for his new iPhone12 which should arrive next week.

It is still raining loads here. I thought we were getting a high pressure system and some decent weather this week. 🤷

  • Poomouse is a small brown fur-covered cat toy with a rattle inside. It’s called Poomouse because every single one of us has walked into a room and had that heart-sink moment where we think Sodding has pooed on the carpet immediately followed by the relief when we realise it’s just Poomouse. It happens repeatedly which confirmed to us that Poomouse is aptly named.
BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 02/11/2020 13:30

Perhaps you could give Poomouse a nice bright collar , actual poos are rarely brightly dressed. 😁

@caringcarer

I have been extremely excited and proud today but frustrated as well. My D's has a learning disability. He is also a talented cricketer and plays for county disability team. Today when we went to collect him after his academy session his coach came running after us to tell us he has written to the England disability team coach to see if DC can have a trial for England Development squad. We were are so excited and proud of him. Then county coach said he would have been doing trial in November but now it will most likely be the spring. Something lovely to look forward to. I so wanted to hug his coach.
That’s fabulous news and your DS will have a little bit of extra time to practice too!

I have been to the local shops which were stupidly busy - I only went as I had a rare day off and thought they’d be quiet because it is Monday morning.

There was a moment of excitement so please ignore the next bit if you want to stay within the spirit of the thread. The atm gave me a receipt for the money I had requested but no actual money! I had to speak to the bank staff who sorted it out really quickly and let me jump the queue of people waiting outside to go into the bank. I assume this was to sort out any issues if my card details were being fraudulently used etc but I felt a bit embarrassed - just not embarrassed enough to say that I’d wait my proper turn Blush.

After this excitement, I came home and did admin so that was nice and boring again.

FawnDrench · 02/11/2020 14:13

Tesco was absolutely heaving earlier and I couldn't park in my "favourite" spot.

The cashier said "we're very busy, far busier than a normal Monday, but it's to be expected really isn't it?"

To which I replied "yes indeed it is".

MissConductUS · 02/11/2020 14:14

It's really cold and windy here this morning with light snow flurries so I took wore my Lands End Squall Parka for the first time this season. It feels more like January than early November.

Had a nice Zoom call with DS and MIL last night. We had light snow on Saturday with no accumulation. He had six inches of snow up in Boston. Covid cases are ticking up in his area, which is good news in the sense that it increases the chances that his uni will just not bring the students back after Thanksgiving.

Today is the day of the big breakup. At 3:30 this afternoon tooth 3 is going to make a forced exit from my mouth and is probably going to hang on like the grim death before he goes. To add insult to injury I'll have to put $1500 on my credit card to pay for the extraction and bone graft so that I can get an implant to replace it next spring.

What a lovely way to start the week. Smile

@caringcarer - That is lovely news and a wonderful accomplishment for your DS. If he understands cricket he is obviously much smarter than I am. Grin

@caringcarer That’s fantastic - well done to your DS! You must be so proud of him 😊

marriednotdead · 02/11/2020 14:27

I do childcare for DGC starting early on Mondays so stay overnight on Sundays. Their parents are teachers so I actually get to see them this lockdown. They have a new kitten who is extremely friendly. I think she will be good for everyone's mental health Smile

soddingkitten · 02/11/2020 14:43

Cute kitty, married. 😻

Sodding has definitely raised our spirits during the pandemic, so I would second the positive mental health benefits.

ladybee28 · 02/11/2020 15:05

DDog can smell something that I can't.

He stood by the back door sniffing and whining under his breath. Last time this happened it was because he'd let rip a demon fart that nearly knocked me out cold. This time, I have no idea what he's picking up, no matter how hard I try.

We've both been sitting on the floor sniffing wildly for about 10 minutes.

Quillink · 02/11/2020 15:06

Fresh blueberries were on offer at Aldi today. I was torn over whether to buy some at the weekend but they were a bit too dear. So chuffed to stock up today!

BurtonHouse · 02/11/2020 15:21

It's one of my days in work today and someone has brought in chocolate orange biscuits.

TrickyD · 02/11/2020 15:21

I emptied out the pot pourri bowls, shook off all the dust, rearranged them artistically and await a delivery of Christmas spice oils with which to cheer them up.

sproutsandparsnips · 02/11/2020 15:29

TrickyD have you smelt M&S frankincense and myrrh range? It is really very nice. I usually buy in person but I've had to buy online due to welsh lockdown and the pot pourri was out of stock.

Squirrel26 · 02/11/2020 15:43

I’ve lost track of my water bottle. Yesterday evening I got it out of my bag (because bag stays in the car boot and it’s annoying when I forget and then the bottle is in the boot), walked 100m to my car...and it is gone. Not in the bag. Not in the car. Not in my hand. Now I’m at work and I have no water bottle. Annoying.

TrickyD · 02/11/2020 15:51

No, sproutsandparsnips, I don't know that range. This is what is on its way, I am hoping for the best. If it is no good I will head for M&S

MissConductUS · 02/11/2020 16:02

First, something boring. I just realized that I've forgotten my three D radiographs from the root canal specialist and left them at home, so I'll have to stop there on my way to the oral surgeon to pick them up. He may not even want them but better to be prepared. It's not hugely out of my way. The next bit is more exciting if you want to skip it.

I've just received an email from DS's uni. They're going fully remote after Thanksgiving, just as I'd been hoping for. Now we just have to drive up once, pack him up and bring him home. Since he has DH's old Subaru that will be coming back he can prepack a lot of his stuff in there. DD will be thrilled to have that car back and we get him home until next fall, as he'll do his spring internship remotely. Grin

I have cleaned two fridges today ( both were truly disgusting) and chopped up the pumpkin for the freezer.

WalkingInTheAir13 · 02/11/2020 16:05

@Squirrel26

I almost fell asleep reading your post - so well done you!
But I hope that your water bottle turns up for tomorrow.

Christmas pyjamas for the DGC's Christmas Eve boxes have just been delivered looking suitably jolly.

Purpleice · 02/11/2020 16:25

I have washed the car and cleaned the bathroom. Forced dd out of her room on a quick walk. Having a cup of Earl Grey tea. Our cat is curled up beside me.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 02/11/2020 17:16

Well, I only have two rather exciting news:

My hairdresser may stay open and I can have my hair cut before the OP (bc. after I'll be unable to reach her for some time).
And my DMIL care home has been issued with quick tests, so she may have visitors again, if we agree for us / DMIL to have the tests.

To calm you all down again : it has been raining all morning.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 02/11/2020 17:20

@caringcarer

This is great news and you must all be excited.
(This said by somebody who does not understand the game at all.)

forgetthehousework · 02/11/2020 17:44

We now have new garden fence at the side front and back.We have not had to do anything about this replacement (other than paying our share) as our lovely neighbour organised getting all the stuff and two blokes to actually do the job.
Good neighbours are indeed a blessing.
