Just had the car insurance renewal on DH's car. I am a named driver, and the details listed state that I am a 'housewife'. How the fuck is this even a category?

KingaRoo · 02/09/2020 20:57

What do you want it to say?

Crinkledbeetroot · 02/09/2020 21:04

Well it's the category I would use!

Ginger1982 · 02/09/2020 21:04

Are you a SAHP? Would you rather it said 'unemployed?'

vanillandhoney · 02/09/2020 21:06

What's shameful about being a housewife?

ToadinTheHoleWithKetchup · 02/09/2020 21:06

If necessary, my job title.

FelicityBeedle · 02/09/2020 21:06

What would you prefer? Unemployed domestic help?

FelicityBeedle · 02/09/2020 21:07

Are you employed? If so your DH has filled in the application wrongly

SqidgeBum · 02/09/2020 21:07

I am a little confused. What else would it say? Do you have another job?

Defiantly41 · 02/09/2020 21:07

It's whatever your DH told them ...

tappbar · 02/09/2020 21:07

What is your job title?

ToadinTheHoleWithKetchup · 02/09/2020 21:08

What's shameful about being a housewife?

Because it's not the 1950s

OP posts:
Mustbethewine · 02/09/2020 21:09

It's what I'm listed down as. I'm a SAHM.

KeepSmiling89 · 02/09/2020 21:09

OP I'm guessing you have another job. However job titles can actually impact premiums. I didn't realise that til a while ago...maybe he put housewife as it meant cheaper insurance premiums...I dunno...

SouthWestLolly · 02/09/2020 21:09

Glad your HB is getting his oats.

HoneysuckIejasmine · 02/09/2020 21:09

Do you have a job? Your profession makes a difference to your risk profiles. SAHP don't do a commute but do often do the school run and also drive during the day compared to an office worker.

I think my car insurance company call it "homemaker" or something.

Feelingpoorlysick · 02/09/2020 21:09

Are you employed?

Hobbitfeet32 · 02/09/2020 21:09

What is your job title?

Laaalaaaa · 02/09/2020 21:09

What is your job title then, yummy mummy?

bellajay · 02/09/2020 21:09

I agree with you OP, outdated term with unhelpful connotations.

SimonJT · 02/09/2020 21:09

What job do you do?

If you’re unemployed it is likely that stating housewife brought slightly lower premiums than stating you’re unemployed.

userxx · 02/09/2020 21:11

I dying to know what your job is now.

svenwhen · 02/09/2020 21:11

I've seen house husband down as a job title too if that helps?

MushMonster · 02/09/2020 21:12

Are you in charge of the house cleaning, tidying, cooking, laundry, shopping, random errands, food planning/ budgeting, clothes sorting/ buying/ getting ready for the day activities, feed the pets, decorating? And the children? Food, nappies, naps, toys, colouring books, reading/ learning to speak/ writing, entertaining, taking to park/ school/ activities/ soft play, homework helper now recently promoted to teacher, nurse- wound healer, sibling relationship therapist....
Because if you are, you can proudly say you are a housewife. Being a housewife is actually a tough job!

JoJoSM2 · 02/09/2020 21:14

Haha I put down ‘housewife’ as my job title when getting a new phone.

Is there a more modern name? Not a modern thing to be so I’m happy to be called a housewife.

ToadinTheHoleWithKetchup · 02/09/2020 21:15

OP I'm guessing you have another job.

I do not have another job, I have one job. This was not asked for when we took the insurance, I would have stated self employed.
