I'm a fucking HOUSEWIFE?

Just had the car insurance renewal on DH's car. I am a named driver, and the details listed state that I am a 'housewife'. How the fuck is this even a category?

OP posts:

i am surprised it says housewife and not home maker*

I was unemployed when I had my eldest ten years ago, and the midwife put ‘homemaker’ on my booking form. I was horrified!!

Laaalaaaa

FFS what is your self employed line of work? You’re pissing people off because you’re clearly avoiding telling us what you apparently do to earn a living. Next guess is ‘it’s far too outing.’

I think she helps people with relaxation and anger management.

I think cam girl.
Bluewavescrashing · 02/09/2020 21:36

What's your business OP?

MilleniumHallsWalledGarden · 02/09/2020 21:36

If you're actually self employed then you are obliged to let the insurer know, and to pay the increased premium. Housewife isn't another way of saying self employed, so to keep it as it is would be fraud.

FatCatThinCat · 02/09/2020 21:36

I get you OP.

When I insured my animals the insurance paperwork read 'dog, breed: west highland terrier. cat, breed: moggy'. MOGGY! I was so offended on my cat's behalf.

HoneysuckIejasmine · 02/09/2020 21:37

So... Don't you need to be having this conversation with your husband then? Find out why he lied to your insurers?

Sciencebabe · 02/09/2020 21:40

My insurer put me down as 'home maker' when I said I was on maternity leave...well no...I still have a job...

I'm an old school feminist so I remember people calling themselves a 'domestic engineer' and similar

Leigh134 · 02/09/2020 21:40

Get over it

greengreengrass14 · 02/09/2020 21:40

or perhaps simply 'Mother'. The hardest and most rewarding job in the world?

Thisismytimetoshine · 02/09/2020 21:41

Did they ask for your occupation? If it's how your dh described you, your argument is with him.

Eminybob · 02/09/2020 21:41

Do you reckon the op has sidled off because she’s just realised that her husband lied on the application form, and the insurers aren’t just casual sexists?

Xiaoxiong · 02/09/2020 21:41

"Self-employed" is not a job title. Self-employed plumber? Bookkeeper? Financial compliance consultant?

If they got it wrong then ring them up and change it, then give whoever it was an earful.

Is this about your DH not believing that your self-employed job is real work because he is the one with a Big Job?

KenDodd · 02/09/2020 21:42

Also dying to know what the op actually does for a living.

ToadinTheHoleWithKetchup · 02/09/2020 21:43

Do you make 'Sweetie Bouquets' to sell on Facebook?

Grin

I deal with the insurance, so don't need to have a word with dh. Have changed provider.

Lol this is such an attention seeking thread

pointythings · 02/09/2020 21:44

I wonder how the motor insurance industry is going to cope in the post-COVID world where home working is suddenly going to be much more of a thing than it was before. I have been working full time from home since late March - but I'm still a project manager, just without a commute every day.

Bluewavescrashing · 02/09/2020 21:45

Can someone do an advanced search on OP please to try yo establish her occupation?

I would do it, but I'm lazy.

RedRiverShore · 02/09/2020 21:45

It’s fraud to put housewife if you are not, maybe he put that to get cheaper insurance if your job is a risky one

Eminybob · 02/09/2020 21:47

So you filled in the application form incorrectly?
