I'm a fucking HOUSEWIFE?

ToadinTheHoleWithKetchup · 02/09/2020 20:55

Just had the car insurance renewal on DH's car. I am a named driver, and the details listed state that I am a 'housewife'. How the fuck is this even a category?

OP posts:
Dohorseseatapples · 02/09/2020 21:47

So you arrange the insurance and are self employed and pay yourself a salary.
How did ‘housewife’ get on your documents if you didn’t put it there?

HolyForkinShirt · 02/09/2020 21:48

Obviously the form was filled out wrong. Just change it to your actual job title. Ie self employed- accountant.

Unless you are in fact a sahm/ homemaker/housewife/yummy mummy/ full time mummy to my little princess.

I can't see why you are so angry.

Eminybob · 02/09/2020 21:50

I would be willing to bet £1million that OP works for a MLM.

OhCaptain · 02/09/2020 21:50

@greengreengrass14

or perhaps simply 'Mother'. The hardest and most rewarding job in the world?
God that is so twee.
bellajay · 02/09/2020 21:51

Bit confused. Does it matter what OP’s job is? Someone making a thread doesn’t entitle them to give you any and all info you ask for. And how come it’s snobby to not want to be called housewife but it’s okay to piss all over someone who sells sweetie bouquets on Facebook? 🤔

badacorn · 02/09/2020 21:51

Would love to be a housewife. Don’t find it offensive at all.

Bridecilla · 02/09/2020 21:51

Maybe you should put your job title as 'Arsey Question Avoider'

GoatsInBoats · 02/09/2020 21:51

So, did the insurance company ignore the job title you gave them? If so, why?

aModernClassic · 02/09/2020 21:51

@MushMonster

Are you in charge of the house cleaning, tidying, cooking, laundry, shopping, random errands, food planning/ budgeting, clothes sorting/ buying/ getting ready for the day activities, feed the pets, decorating? And the children? Food, nappies, naps, toys, colouring books, reading/ learning to speak/ writing, entertaining, taking to park/ school/ activities/ soft play, homework helper now recently promoted to teacher, nurse- wound healer, sibling relationship therapist.... Because if you are, you can proudly say you are a housewife. Being a housewife is actually a tough job!
I do all of that, plus I work full time in marketing. I am not a housewife.
OhCaptain · 02/09/2020 21:52

Sounds like OP or her DH lied on the form. Isn’t that insurance fraud?

ODFOx · 02/09/2020 21:52

If you have a job outside the home and don't feel that ' housewife' is appropriate then get it changed on the insurance. You phrased your OP as if you were a housewife but objected to the term.

Dohorseseatapples · 02/09/2020 21:53

I can't see why you are so angry.

Me neither. Just phone them up and tell them you made a mistake when filling out the form for the insurance you applied for.
As a named driver...
Yeh. Not sure you can do that OP. The main driver applies for the insurance so if you’re the named driver...

Bluntness100 · 02/09/2020 21:53

This mKes no sense. So who clicked you were a house wife?

There is nothing wrong with being a house wife or house husband. If you are not one then correct the form.

And stop looking for shit to be offended about.

Margotshypotheticaldog · 02/09/2020 21:53

Moggy surely is not an actual breed of cat?

Ideasplease322 · 02/09/2020 21:55

Yo am confused. Are you angry that either your husband or someone in the insurance place ticked the wrong box?

Are you cross at the term houseWife?

Are you Cross that your husband doesn’t know what your job is?

TokenGinger · 02/09/2020 21:55

@iamtheoneandonlyyy

You flog perfume on Facebook don't you Grin
GrinGrin
Waxonwaxoff0 · 02/09/2020 21:55

@MushMonster what you've described is just being a parent. I do all of that and work as well, plus I'm a single parent so I am no one's wife.

YANBU OP. I hate the term housewife.

Dohorseseatapples · 02/09/2020 21:55

This mKes no sense. So who clicked you were a house wife?

OP says she arranged the insurance.
She also says she’s the named driver only.

Makes no sense at all.

bookmum08 · 02/09/2020 21:57

I am a 'Homemaker' on my marriage certificate. I wasn't allowed to use housewife because I legally wasn't a wife - until the marriage ceremony happened !!

nc127 · 02/09/2020 21:57

What's wrong with being a stay at home mum or a housewife? Sad

Bluntness100 · 02/09/2020 21:57

@OhCaptain

Sounds like OP or her DH lied on the form. Isn’t that insurance fraud?
On the form or More likely on here,,because the named driver doesn’t do the insurance, the main driver does.

So hubby told rhe insurer she was a house wife when he put her on his insurance.

Sunnydayhere · 02/09/2020 21:57

I’m teaching my daughter to drive and so had to put her on our insurance.

She’s just finished uni and has no job, thanks covid, and is early 30s. But she’s not looking for one or claiming. Lives with her partner.

Not sure what to put for her occupation. Student and unemployed were significantly more expensive than housewife.

True the title can be demeaning but it does have benefits.

Bluntness100 · 02/09/2020 21:58

Yup...
JinglingHellsBells · 02/09/2020 21:58

Aren't there 2 questions on these forms

1 are you in employment/ full time/ part time/ self employed
2 your actual job

OP your job is important because that is how they calculate risk by algorithms.

Also, the questions will ask if you use your car for business purposes even just driving to a place of work.

As everyone say,s you cannot answer 'occupation' with 'self employed' so if you complete the form how come it says Housewife? You must have chosen that from the tick box.

RedRiverShore · 02/09/2020 21:58

OP changed provider, bit extreme for being called a housewife, surely you would just correct it
