I'm a fucking HOUSEWIFE?

ToadinTheHoleWithKetchup · 02/09/2020 20:55

Just had the car insurance renewal on DH's car. I am a named driver, and the details listed state that I am a 'housewife'. How the fuck is this even a category?

OP posts:
C8H10N4O2 · 02/09/2020 21:58

I deal with the insurance, so don't need to have a word with dh. Have changed provider

So they didn't ask about your employment but assumed you were a housewife?

Did they make an assumption about DH? just wondering what assumption they make about men. Mighty hunter perhaps??

Thehogfatherstolemycurry · 02/09/2020 21:58

Every insurance I've ever had has asked for mine and dhs occupation. Why didn't you fill it in?

Imicola · 02/09/2020 21:58

A few years back, while I was a PhD student, the mortgage adviser (female) insisted that since my stipend wouldn't be taken into account as earnings, I would be listed as a housewife. Never gotten over that.

minmooch · 02/09/2020 22:00

I couldn't work up the energy to be offended by this.

Either you are a housewife/stay at home parent or you get paid for work. As you keep being so evasive over your actual job just ring up the insurers and tell them your profession - drama over.

canyoucallbacklater · 02/09/2020 22:00

She's clearly irritated because her husband most certainly would not have been placed in the category 'house-husband'.

Additionally, she isn't a housewife! She works! It's the wrong terminology and it's outdated at best, sexist at worst. Plus, it's the principle.

She isn't married to her bloody house and if the only defence is insurance companies have limited job titles then they need to give themselves a wobble and update their systems it's 2020 ffs.

They always ask your occupation and the named drivers. They don’t make assumptions. Because the risk is based on the answer. And she can’t have done the insurance. Her husband must have.

So he told them she was a house wife.

Dohorseseatapples · 02/09/2020 22:01

Bluntness
OP said she deals with the insurance.
’I deal with the insurance, so don't need to have a word with dh.’
Hopefully that isn’t true. She’s the named driver....

Homemaker is a ridiculous title 😂 I’m single and live alone and I can assure you I’ve very much made a home Biscuit

Was there not an option for Tropic / Avon / Arbonne franchisee?

You should probably have just selected 'Sales person' in that case.

(Yes I am being facetious but what do you expect if you insist on being so shady in your answers?)

killerofmen · 02/09/2020 22:03

@greengreengrass14

or perhaps simply 'Mother'. The hardest and most rewarding job in the world?
Hmm I think that's diamond mining.
WiserOlder · 02/09/2020 22:03

I'd be annoyed if your husband just dismissively said ''housewife'' when you do have a job, like he does.
But I used to work in an insurance company and people need to declare their actual occupation as the risk is calculated on that basis and the insurance could end up being invalidated if you say you were a housewife but you're actually a lion tamer.

minmooch · 02/09/2020 22:04

@Worried234 😂😂

littlecatfeet · 02/09/2020 22:04

Ha! When people ask what I do, I love to look 'email straight in the eye and smile and say "I'm a housewife".
For me, it's the best "job" I ever had.
The only negative associations with "housewife" come from women (lots of them in this thread) who have some kind of chip and make a lot of assumptions. (The 1950s! Financial independence!)
I ain't carrying your baggage.

SentientAndCognisant · 02/09/2020 22:04

@ToadinTheHoleWithKetchup you work,but steadfastly won’t reveal what the role is?
However your occupational status is not housewife that’s recorded incorrectly
No wonder the form is incorrect if you used the obfuscation you’ve demonstrated here
You started a thread to complain you’re misrepresented but won’t allude to what is correct representation?

HunterHearstHelmsley · 02/09/2020 22:04

I'm confused, what would be the problem with the named driver arranging the insurance?

House husband definitely is an option on car insurance. My Dad is listed as one Grin

UpCloseAndPersonalWithGlenda · 02/09/2020 22:05

I want "twat" to be included in "your occupation" forms henceforth.

Grin

@Worried234

GiantKitten · 02/09/2020 22:05

@Worried234

You might not be a housewife, but by the sounds of it, you're a bit of a twat.
Grin
SentientAndCognisant · 02/09/2020 22:08

or perhaps simply 'Mother'.The hardest and most rewarding job in the world?
Jesus wept that’s so cheesy. Like a Cult recruitment slogan. Join the covenant of the rewarded. Be a mutha. Because you’re worth it

FuckKnowsMate · 02/09/2020 22:08

Was there no Professional Attention Seeker listed as an occupation choice then? Hmm

JinglingHellsBells · 02/09/2020 22:09

The insurance will be invalid @ToadinTheHoleWithKetchup if you complete it incorrectly.

Why does it say HW if YOU deal with the insurance?

This makes no sense.

littlecatfeet · 02/09/2020 22:09

Whoops, 'em, not 'email. Autocucumber.

Also, it's hilarious to me that a competent, independent serious business woman like OP threw a tantrum and changed provider rather than call her insurance company and change one detail.
Maybe better to let your husband handle it 😂

LonginesPrime · 02/09/2020 22:10

I deal with the insurance, so don't need to have a word with dh. Have changed provider.

Without asking DH? Isn't the policy in his name as it's his car?

ChickenwingChickenwing · 02/09/2020 22:10

Why did your husband choose 'housewife' instead of givibn your actual job?
